Random Rants 80: Computer Says No

I wandered over to GOG, but it has not many selections and they are expensive. My days of buying computer games are over.

You could just wait for a sale. GOG does some excellent sales if you have the patience.

Caffeine has zero effect on me. Except it large doses, then is makes me nauseous and tired. I never makes me any more alert/awake.

Means you're definitely addicted.
When I still had coffee regularly, then it didn't have an impact. Could drink a cup before midnight, no problem.
I quit coffee like 4 years ago. Now I notice a single sip, and a late cup can keep me awake all night.

I've been trying to fill out forms to stay on a specific payment plan for my wife's student loans to one day have a shot at the loan forgiveness program for teachers. To say they make it difficult is a massive understatement. They send emails requesting information that say you can fill it out digitally, but do not link to it. Logging onto their site and searching will not lead you to a place to fill out any of the information but rather hard copies that you have to fill out digitally, then print and mail in. I had to log into the site under two different accounts to do this, then log into an IRS site to link it to the other site. Then print out the form and fill out other information that the digital form did not fill out. I mailed that off, via certified mail and they claimed they never got it until we said we had the delivery receipt.

Then they said that the form was missing information and asked me to send it in. This information was included, but I resent it anyways. We just got an email again saying they did not receive the information and to fill out a form (that's in an email - not attached to an email, it's literally typed out on a couple of lines in the email body) and send it in. Again they promised I could do this digitally but that was a lie. So I printed the email and filled out the 'form' and I'm going to mail it in with extra information just to be sure. Third times the charm?

The public service loan forgiveness program is completely broken and the loan servicers do absolutely everything they can to keep people from completing it. Less than 1% of eligible borrowers have had their loans discharged through it, which goes to show how broken it is. And Betsy DeVos has taken steps to eliminate the program and short of that (as it's winding through the courts), she has given the loan servicers more power to obstruct borrowers from completing the program.

It's such a hassle that I want to get out of the repayment plan so I can stop dealing with the hassle but that's exactly what they're trying to accomplish.

If you add games to your wishlist, they email you when it goes on sale!

It's almost like the rich and powerful deliberately design government systems to be inefficient, outdated, and painful to discourage people from getting help they're perfectly entitled to and make everyone think that the government doing good things couldn't possibly work.

Discord has reached 2½ strikes -to use a baseball metaphor- with me.
The first was a few months ago when I reported a mistake, noted that it was not in my Windows partition but the Linux one, and they assigned me an idiot who first suggested I download a Mac version and try running it, then when I pointed this out the idiot (who had disappeared for a few days and threatened to ‘close’ the complaint because of the lack of interaction) sent me a download link for a public test build but I had to reconstruct the link by hand because the link had typos (worthy of one strike on its own, because you have to be really bad to mess up a straight up copy-paste job).
Today I found out that the default setting is to record whatever games I'm playing with the computer while Discord is on. I hadn't realised this because I only use it to chat when I'm not playing so as not to waste bandwidth or have lag because somebody sends a picture or a video and Discord decides to preload it without asking (half a strike on its own). I turned it off but Discord first warned me that their not collecting my personal information would make the programme ‘dumb’. WTH? Schoolyard manipulation ****. That's one strike more.

For some reason, Scrivener is listed as a "verified game" in Discord, and I can't remove it.

Philippines too.

Now 4 days of phoning the doctors every morning and still no appointment.
I did have a go at the receptionist this morning which is a little unfair since its not her fault but I managed to stay polite.

Its the same as happened to NHS Dentistry. No privatisation, just make sure there aren't enough dentists and doctors to actually provide a decent service so that people end up going private out of frustration.

Well Doctors have more important things to worry about rather than patients .... They need to concern themselves with things like budget cuts and the machines that go "biiing" ...

Spoiler :

I think we need more satire like this to put some pressure on them, what else can we "little puny dots in the line" do ...

I'm not entirely happy with today's batch of cake eyeballs ... and I didn't have enough red to make them all veiny.

Since my Wife had eye surgery today, I find that offensive

Speaking of eye surgery.... Although my cataract surgery fixed me up, for the past several months, my vision has been getting slowly more blurry. I suspected my new lenses may be migrating, I checked in with my eye surgeon, but he found membranes had grown over them. He took me into a back room and lasered the membranes off. Easy peasey. I can see again.

Well, when you do them successfully, you can announce, "Veiny, vidi, vici!"

a) eyeball pastry goes in the Raves thread
b) what do you use as filling under all that lovely white chocolate?

Cow eyeballs. :yumyum:

I have no idea what she's doing, but that seems like an appropriate face.

My oldest daughter is still being bullied by the same kid at school. I also found out that the school said they would separate this kid from my daughter, but the teacher still has them sitting near each other and makes them work together on assignments.

Since the school is now lying to us and isn't doing anything to stop the bullying, I've been gathering up all the evidence I have and will be talking to a lawyer. I have also scheduled a meeting with the principle (who is aware of the situation) and will be letting him know that I am done being nice about this and will be demanding something be done or the next communication they receive regarding this matter will be from an attorney.

I did look it up as well, and schools can be held legally liable for not taking measures to prevent bullying they have been made aware of. Not going to lie, I hope this teacher ends up getting fired over this because she is the one who is supposed to be handling the situation and she is failing miserably at this very key aspect of her job.
