I wish people I knew would stop asking me to join into their weightloss/money management/some other crap "businesses." They're all basically pyramid schemes, and it seems like at least 1 in 5 people I know is into one of them and constantly try to get the rest of us involved.

No, I do not want to buy $200 worth of your terrible wine and host a party to try to sell it to other suckers. No, I don't want to become a fitness coach for your training program. No, I don't want to learn how to make your ultimate-shakes. No, I don't want to peddle your fake nails.

I got a fruit-based beverage, which is okay except for the pineapple. Pineapple flavoring dominates everything, it’s the British Empire of fruit. It just wedges itself in and you can’t stop it.

And what’s the deal with pineapple? It’s not pine, it’s not an apple. I don’t think the pineapples want us eating them; they’re the only fruit that has an external layer of spiky defenses. If pineapples had been plentiful to Czechoslovakia in 1938 they probably would have fought, and won.

the pineapple is native to brazil and the word that most of the world uses for it - ananás - comes from an indigenous tupi language. weirdly, brazilian portuguese itself specifically uses abacaxi, which comes from a different tupi word and which nobody else ever uses

Rant: it's been two months since my grandfather died, and the bloody cellphone company is still incapable of cancelling his service. They just keep sending bills. As it turned out, they mistyped his personal identification number (here, everyone is assigned unique ID number on birth) on the contract, and apparently, because it means the number on contract and on death certificate are different, they're having problems cancelling it. They promised they'll sort it out, still nothing despite repeated nagging. My mother, who is handling this, is so angry about it that she might bring his urn to their local office, put it on table and tell them to sort it out with him. She might really do it, since she's going to pick up the urn tomorrow and the office is close...

Really? Not even a pizza joint has them? They're pretty common here.

Not the brand specifically, but the general idea. Although I've never had one I liked. The mozzarella always has the consistency of plastic. :/

nobody has been particularly concerned about giving tips to enemies or whatever of the US , considering ı happen to be an actual enemy of the US , you know , with people on the ground who were apparently once again denied by the joyous one , who is seemingly agreed by all to be speaking in my name .

Rant: Now that SARS-CoV-2 has gone pandemic the potential is vastly increased for it to recombine or undergo reassortment (I don't fully understand either of these processes) with other coronaviruses (like the very closely related MERS and SARS viruses, or other viruses that we don't know about yet) to create new strains that could be significantly more lethal than covid-19.

Not to mention that even the people who survive sometimes end up with long-term effects It happened with the other SARS years ago too.
