Random Rants 92 - Not Enough Snerk

Having gotten a decent night's sleep: My neck definitely feels better and I can more comfortably find positions to sit and lie in, but I'm definitely not 100% yet. Mostly now I just feel stiffness in my upper back.

What does that mean?

Stretching. A bit like yoga, in fact.

Stretching helps somewhat, but only so much. Heat also helps somewhat, I went to the pharmacy on Friday night looking for some kind of heating pad, and what I found wasn't quite what I was envisioning but it's definitely helped. Lying down seems to help for a little bit.

Overall right now I'd say I feel about the same as I felt yesterday- better than a couple days ago, but clearly not 100%.

Oh, it's not just stretching a bit, it's entire sessions of it. I might join such a thing one day.

I've never heard of such a thing but okay

Not sure if I'd remotely have energy for such a thing at the moment, I feel generally kinda fatigued and sleepy

Continues to be more of the same, roughly. Feels like it's slowly getting better? But sure would be nice if it healed a bit faster

It's mostly not really painful anymore, but like, my neck and upper back are generally feeling kinda... stiff is the best way to describe it, and occasionally the stiff feeling will show up somewhere else, and from time to time I'll like, move something in the wrong way or lightly bump some random part of my body and it will just reverberate, like if my entire body was made of the nerve cluster in your funny bone. Sometimes it's less a stiff feeling and more of a tingly feeling.

Covid symptoms of some sort?

Covid symptoms of some sort?

I guess that's possible because it can have some very weird symptoms, but I don't have any respiratory symptoms at all, so that seems unlikely

I think you need to test 1-2 things.
Try if a heat pad or creme will make it better, and if it stays then like this or not.
Also maybe change your pillow for a night, to see the effect of this.
A draft to the neck at your regular working/sitting position could also impact this.

A heating pad definitely helps for at least as long as I have the heading pad on.

Yeah maybe

It's like, not really all that bad, more like a mild unpleasantness than a severe pain, and it's definitely been getting slightly better over time, but it also doesn't seem to be going away any time soon

Just hope I can get an appointment today or tomorrow if I decide to get one cause I'm going on a plane on Thursday and going to be out of town for a couple of weeks

Do you normally sit in a recliner? I had neck aches that sound similar to yours. Turns out all I needed was a round pillow behind my neck while sitting in the recliner and on my laptop.

If you're on a phone a lot and look down at the screen frequently, that could be another cause.

A recliner's not how I'd describe it, it's a high-backed swivel chair that does recline backwards somewhat, though. I often lean forward while sitting at it doing stuff on my laptop because it would be hard to reach the laptop keyboard without leaning forward.

I am definitely guilty of frequently using my phone and looking down at the screen

This kinda makes me feel like I'm actually mostly fine and just need to figure out a more comfortable way to sit and work lol

Visited the doctor today and she basically told me this, that the pain is just coming from leaning my neck forward too much while I work on stuff and I need to lean back in the chair more and take regular breaks to stretch out the neck and back muscles
