Random Rants : Bloody hell!

Because there will be no point in trying once you're dead. But as long as you're alive there's always a chance. Well, at least they think there is, apparently.

I have no dependents and no one is on the hook for any debts I may run up. I need life insurance for absolutely nothing.

If you need a beneficiary, just call me.

So you think your family should have to pay the cost to put you in the ground or cremate you in the event of your untimely death? That's a little douchey, don't you think?

Just get a small policy that covers the cost of your funeral so you don't mooch off your family for your final expenses.

If I were in that position, I'd tell my family to dispose of me in any way that's free. Perhaps dump my body into a river or something? What do the dead care about how they're buried? And Cutlass doesn't necessarily need to buy life insurance for that, he can just save up money for his funeral, specifically designate that money for that purpose in his will

Funerals are for the living, not for the dead. Besides, you'd want your kids to know where you're buried, no? "Ah, just over there in the river downstream.." doesn't really cut it.

Wills can still get tied up in probate court, so there's no guarantee that any assets designated for funeral expenses will be immediately released for that purpose. Life insurance policies are one of only two types of assets that are immune to probate (I forget what the other one is, but it isn't wills). At least that's the way it is in the US.

EDIT: And your family just can't dump you "into a river or something". There are laws against that and laws that dictate the proper disposal of a dead body.

Rant: Where are all the rights and freedoms?

That's them in action right there. My right to a pollution and dead-body-free river (a public resource from what I understand).

You want to be dumped? Allow me to contact your girlfriend.

It's really simple, just dump the body in a river that borders another state. That way, it becomes their problem.

Not everyone lives that close enough to Canada to make it work.

As cardgame already stated, your rights are limited to what you can do without violating the rights of others. Dumping a rotting carcass into a river has the potential to spread disease to anyone using that river as a water source, thus you would be violating their right to life by doing so. That is why you do not have the right to just dispose of a corpse any old way you see fit.

The question then becomes, whose corpse is it anyway? I die, my corpse is mine...but I am clearly beyond the law, and also not likely to take any active role in this "disposing." How does one come to be in possession of a corpse?

No, not really. A robot sex machine or a person? A person to have fun with, or a person to go steady and maybe make a family with?

If it's just sex you want, then you are definitely putting way too much thought and effort into it.

Actually, looking for something serious.
And as pointed out, right now I'm even for some time in Amsterdam, so if I need some, I can get some.
But well....to expensive on the long run :P (and not what I'm looking for).

You can cremate someone, and then dump them into a river.
(in theory even possible here, since e.g. Switzerland doesn't dictate a specific timing between cremation and burying, so you'd have the urne at home for a long time, and hey, don't think after a few years anybody cares)
You can actually dump someone in the forest. Okay, not exactly like that, but at least in Germany there are so called "peace forests", basically grave sites in a forest, without actual "graves" as we know it. Is cheaper than a normal grave, and there's nothing to be taken care of for the relatives.

Doesn't cost enough to bother with a policy.
