It happens all the time when the game is older or was released in a borderline unworkable state and there's several gigs worth of patches or dlc to download.
Was this a new game ?

Yes. The game isn't actually on the disk, just a Steam installer. Second time I've run into that in the past few months. Valve is encouraging this because it promotes 'You think installing from disk is faster? Guess again, might as well buy from Steam direct.'

Tak...I could use free software, but I actually don't mind paying for what I want. I don't like it when what I pay one company for comes with 'hey, here is some extra stuff from another company, which you despise...consider it a bonus and by the way you can't turn it down' though.

They say always do your paperwork in advance or sheisty things happen. We'll see how sheisty things end up being. I don't understand why people burn bridges and cash out so early when they can build bridges and cash in.

Happened to me with Civ V. Had to install Steam, otherwise I wouldnt be able to install, much less play. I am not fully unhappy but it pissed me off at the time.

You could've known that beforehand...

pretty much extended to 2 :/

...why?

I need to mentally prepare for getting destroyed in 2 hours by my professor in a big project meeting. Pretty much an extension of the small meeting 2 weeks ago, which could be summarized as "these manuscripts are nice, but what about your project?".
*gngngn* :gripe:

Fark them and the city they rode in on(present company excluded).

First world problems. It's the dumbest period but not the worst.

I go and sit at a desk for 9 hours a day with nothing to directly work on and get told it'll change "soon" and I should be prepared. (Rare) direct work is "uhm look over this for a day and give comments", only to be ignored. A month of that is fine. Pushing 4 months is not really.

It's communication really. At least I ninja surf cfc on my phone though

Are you working at a government office ^^?

3 hour meetings are a bad idea.
Wasn't fun, although it could've been worse.
Not sure how much worse, because one of the postdocs asked me afterwards if I always get grilled that much (for which the answer would be "yes", but whatever).

I have to be in Frankfurt tomorrow at eight in the morning and I don't have a car. That means I'll have to shell out at least 70€ for train tickets and leave the house at 2.00 tonight. Best to not even go to bed.

I don't like the sound of my voice in recordings, like most people, I imagine. I wish there were some way for people to hear your voice the way you hear it.

Stick your fingers in their ears. You hear your voice as it sounds when the vibrations are carried by bone instead of air. If you wedge your finger hard enough in their ear to get good solid contact they can get the same effect. You better have something really good to say though.

I'm trying to build the pentagon in my current Civ3 20K game; three times my third cav army has dies just before I get it built, always with 10+ hp against a 1 hp infantry.

The sudden change in the forum color scheme due to the Civ:BE shenanigans took me by surprise a bit.

My color scheme hasn't changed?

it is a bit on the bright side, it illuminates the whole basement, and for the life of me I can not find where CFC has hidden their settings, nor where my sunglasses are.
