You wanna take er jerbs, Cutlass? Shame on you.

So, you want to be a politician holding an elected office, then.

There was a love triangle thing that sort of just suddenly developed. And my two best friends are into each other... and not to me.

A bunch of stuff happened and now they have each other - and I'm happy for them, but I'm left with nothing. I used to have a friend who I can trust with anything, and another who can comfort me in a way no one else can, and now I have neither.

We were all in a close-knit group of friends who I don't think I can hang around so much anymore. It hurts too much.

I might be spending a lot more time here on CFC from now on.

I bought a plane ticket and Amtrack ticket, so now I get Amtrack and Delta ads popping up on every website I visit from now until Christmas. And to think all of the Sheraton hotel adds finally started going away from when I used their Wi-Fi back in the start of September.

Nooooooo...Hoverboard!

It's (or was) October 21st, 2015!!

And the Cubs are certainly not winning the World Series.

I have a vaguely similar situation. I've largely given up on the friends of mine who have been causing all the trouble, though they probably don't realize it yet. I'm graduating after next semester, anyway, so it shouldn't be a huge issue.

She's going to another party (private one), else I'd have asked.
Well...gonna see the weekend afterwards.

Why not.... ask... anyway?

Whenever it came to friends, I was always the third wheel.

But everything gets better once you realize you don't need any friends.

I agree that you don't need any friends.

Sometimes, though, your friends need you.

I never know how to respond when someone finds out I was in the military and they say "thank you for your service" and it creates an awkward situation. Responding with "you're welcome" just seems douchy to me, but not saying anything just makes me seem like a jerk who doesn't acknowledge compliments.

Saying you're welcome doesn't make you seem douchy!

In that particular context it does, at least to me. So far, I've been going with the polite head nod and then rapidly change the subject.

"Don't thank me, I was in it for the paycheck"?

"Don't thank me, I was only in it because I like shooting guns and kicking in doors"?

Almost every person I've ever met in the military (and I live in a navy town, so that's a lot of people) was in it for one of those two reasons, which is why I no longer bother thanking people for their service.
