semester starts in about 20 days and I can't handle it

Quite contrary, as a teacher, i can't wait. Finally the vacation will be over and I'll see my pupils. I miss them.

Share your secrets, what would you do if the semester got postponed for one more week?

He might rise in arms, except that it takes too much effort.

@Snerk: sunburn is something that happens when one goes Outside. If you are not familiar with the procedure I can provide you with an illustrated manual and step-by-step procedures for beginners.

I was part of an infuriating display of white privilege and racism today. For those who don't know, my girlfriend is black and I'm half white/half Asian. We go into a tea shop in Capitol Hill, Seattle, a purported liberal bastion and so we see the lady at the front is talking with a customer. My girlfriend goes up to the desk and tries to ask the front lady about signing a petition for police brutality but before she can finish her sentence, the front lady rudely cuts her off, saying she was with a customer. So we wait in the side room for 20 minutes while the front lady and customer are talking about tea.

So I'm tired of waiting and so I stand on the opposite side of the store and holler a greeting to the front lady. "Hello!" I say in a loud voice. My treatment was considerably different and the front lady greets me and asks me what she can help me with. Two completely different responses but for the wrong stimulus. So I get the petition, me and my girlfriend sign and I shove it back into the woman's hand as she apologizes for the wait to which I quip "As well you should be."

She acts with shock but my girlfriend, who was already made to feel unwelcome in her store, is already crying next to her and this woman acts with more concern over my stupid passive aggressive quip than to the crying woman next to her.

Needless to say I wrote a very angry note on the woman's company Facebook page, calling her a fake person who talks the good talk about civil rights but when it came to an actual black person, she reveals her true colors. And the difference in behavior was so obvious even to me and I have great difficulty detecting subtlety.

EDIT: I typed it incorrectly in a fit of rage. To clarify, we were going in to sign a petition that the tea woman was hosting in her store and that the tea woman had advertised on Facebook.

Did you ever stop to think the difference in treatment came from how you both approached the situation? Your girlfriend not only interrupted the employee while she was conducting business, but also shoved a petition in her face. You didn't do that initially. Initially you seemed to her to be acting like any other customer and so was more receptive to you.

At least that what I gather from your description of the event.

No, we both went in to sign a petition the front lady advertised on Facebook to have people sign. And even that, my girlfriend only got as far as "Excuse me."

Civ 5 really chaps my butt sometimes.

I like being a bit of a warmonger, and sometimes it seems like everything in this game is designed to prevent me from playing that way. Even when I follow warmongering strategies to the letter, I still can't go on an absolute warpath and conquer all I survey like I could in previous Civ games.

I do venture outside on occasions. But have yet to experience this sunburn phenomenon. Is the problem that it requires sun?

What's sunburn?
Sometimes, when land is in disarray and brother is turned against brother, a terrifying fiery orb appears in the sky, His malevolent eye searing the very flesh of those unlucky enough to find themselves in the open.

The druids tell us that it means we need more sacrifices, but they always say that. Bloody druids.

Today I lost my beloved dog. Sophie was loyal and loving for eleven years, and life just isn't the same without her.

That's rough, man. I'm sorry for your loss.

The sun is this shining white thing on the ceiling. Look up when you go otuside, it's been hovering around the Norwegian skies for some months now.

I only see a thick layer of clouds me. That's mostly been the tune this summer. :(
