And that must be why you keep the Alaskans on the other side of Canada and part of New York on an island.
Actually, if Canada is the U.S.'s "hat," Alaska makes a nice pompom on our toques.

Seriously, it wouldn't be such a bad thing if Alaska joined Canada - as long as Sarah Palin and her demented family get deported somewhere else and she tells us exactly which vantage point she needs to stand on to see Vladimir Putin - so we can put up a very tall, solid fence (honestly, does he think he's actually sexy in all those ridiculous shirtless photos? :ack:).

Damn, I never knew any Jews.

I grew up in an area full of Jews. They made up about 30-40% of the student population in my high school (and about 30-40% were Asian), so much that they were pretty filling in the niches that non-Jewish white kids would've filled in other schools. For any of my non-Asian friends, chances they were Jewish, part Jew, or related to one.

Hey, maybe he's really into that sort of thing, you never know what sort of interesting results someone gets from the kink lottery. :dunno:

Heh, I like how we went to similar high schools. The two largest minorities in mine being Jews and Koreans, who when combined, outnumbered everyone else.

What a fine coincidence, in my school most of the Asians were either Chinese or Koreans. There was a "clique" (I use that word very loosely because we didn't really have well-defined cliques per se) of what we called the Asian preps, or the Asian popular kids (in contrast to the normal "clique" of popular kids/preps that was mostly Jewish), that was mostly dominated by Koreans, while the other not-so-popular Asian cliques were more Chinese dominated. There was perhaps one or two Japanese kids in my grade and besides myself I only knew two or three other Vietnamese kids, I think. One of whom shared the last name I did (don't know if we are that closely related though, never knew her that well), and one of whom is the daughter of a family friend of a family friend.

Where did you go to high school? Mine was in Maryland, somewhat close to DC.

I went to a high school in the North Shore (sidenote: if you want to see my school, just watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off, takes place in my hometown), which are the suburbs to the North of Chicago. The area has a large concentration of Jews and Koreans, so the mixture makes sense.

We never had cliques either, though people's friend groups were never separated by religion or race/ethnicity. It was more along the lines of what people did after school, and just who people were friends with. Stuff like that.

IIRC we only had one or two Chinese people in our grade. We also had a couple of Vietnamese (who were actually Jewish! I believe they were adopted). No Japanese that I can remember. Rest of the kids were the usual Midwestern mix of Germans, Russians, and (unique to Chicago) Poles. And then a smattering of others, like Greek, or Mexican.

Overall it was horribly un-diverse minus the Jews and the Koreans :p

You mean actual germans, russians, poles and greeks, or descendants of immigrants from like the 1800's?

It's like homoeopathy but with nationalities!

It's the Midwest, so descendents, though some were newer than others. I have a friend whose parents moved here after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. My family came during the 1920's, and I'm sure others were actually from the 19th century.

nothing's ever gonna beat teej

Teej?

Ok, that makes sense, Chicago is pretty diverse. I think the area I lived in had some of the highest concentration of Jews in the country (we got several Jewish holidays off, for instance). We did have some other ethnic groups like Russians, Greeks, Hispanics, South Asians (lots of them actually), a few Arabs, Italians, and so on.... Two Poles I can think of in my grade, one is a superhuman health nut and genius and this other one is this really friendly, nice, outgoing girl (I'd say an 8 on my scale... huh, I should've tried asking her out back then, dammit, we were on good terms with each other; anyways...). One Indonesian guy, actually, now that I think about it. I thought he was Peruvian or something when I first saw him. A few Brits, actually, now that I think about it as well (one was a close friend of a friend/the literal girl next door). A few Ukrainians and other miscellaneous Eastern Europeans, a couple Turks. I knew one Spaniard (from Spain, I mean) a few grades below me. Knew a Portuguese guy in Middle School too. A few Africans from Africa - was good friends with a Ghanan girl I think. Oh, a healthy amount of Persians too.

But really it was mostly just Jews, Chinese, and Koreans. Knew so many Jews whenever I think of a default white person they tend to be kind of Jewish. Football guys were mostly Jews, Cheerleaders were mostly Jews, non-Asian nerds were mostly Jews, non-Asians into anime were mostly Jews, non-Asians in band/orchestra were mostly Jewish, my 6th grade crush was Jewish even though I swear I thought she was French, a plurality of my teachers were Jewish for that matter, best friend in Elementary/Middle School was half-Russian Jew (though he didn't identify as such).... Jesus. So many Jews, it boggles the mind. :crazyeye: Honestly I often can't tell if people from that area are or aren't Jewish.

I was however only invited to a Bar/Bat Mitzvah once, though, but couldn't attend it.

Mother made whole chilli bhajis. I ate loads.

Now my stomach is dying again. Hjalp!
