Random Rants XLVIII: Worst. Thread Title. Ever!

You mean you saw someone who looked like your ex gf? Or someone brought her up in conversation?

Aaaaaand someone reminded me of my ex-girlfriend again. :/

Ugh! A friend or just someone you know?
I know everybody says this, probably because they would like it to be true, but you will get over the "ex" in one form or another.

I have two college-era ex-girlfriend Facebook friends (mind you, this was from twenty-two years ago). One is happily married with two young children; the other happily divorced with two adult children. It all worked out.

Sent via mobile; apologies for the whisp of nostalgia....

A friend, although today he's being a bit of an ***.

Added rant: my right ankle just started hurting in the same way it did during soccer season after a game. Probably not a good sign at all.

Hadn't seen one of these in a while :(

Sounds like depression. Or perhaps it's just too cold, and you're saving money on heating. And food.

Wow. My dad has minimal respect for my privacy, as I found by him changing the lock and home screen of my phone to something that practically says, "What you have here is offensive and I won't allow it."

EDIT: Because I deleted a single message on Facebook (not even a text!) from TWO ******* MONTHS AGO, my dad just pretty much took my phone away until the 16th. A single. *******. Message.
Am I the only one who thinks this is ********?

I don't get it. Why would he take it away because you DELETED a message? You mean you'd deleted before he could read it? Does he monitor your behaviour this closely in general? Have you ever been a victim of cyber bullying?

Still, I've got to ask: how old are you? Do you pay your own phone bill? Why did you give him the phone so he could change it?

I've actually loads of questions about this.

@SamSniped: I will not come between the actions of a father and son, so I think you shoukd talk to your father. You have what it seems an active teenage life -- music and sports from what I've read.

I have a father who was less active with my life and I turned out okay. Well, I am a Communist, anyway, that's my version of turning out okay. Others have parents more active in their teens lives. I have no children if my own.

My brother has five teenagers (well, just two, the others are in their twenties -- but they sometimes act like it). And his thing was to gide, not smother them.

Hang in there....it gets better.

Sent via mobile; apologies for any mistakes.

I'll answer in the order you presented the questions.
1. It's apparently a rule that I didn't know about.
2. Yes, but it was a message from two months ago on Facebook, which was just a guy on my bus asking if I saw who found his laptop.
3. Pretty much.
4. Not once in my life.
5. 15.
6. He pays the phone bill, but I have no idea if Facebook is added to it, since I was connected to my house's wifi.
7. He makes me leave the phone downstairs. See #3.

I'm sure it will get better, it just is extremely annoying that he has little respect for my privacy.

:rotfl: Thank you for the morning belly laugh!!

Another year in the Gulag for you, Mr. Show-Me state!

Sent via strange hand gestures because the guard has his boot on my throat....

Getting truly fed up with my summer course instructor.

Spoiler giant rant about summer school :
I've had him before and he puts his 'lectures' (they are really crappy) online and has us do homework in class. Only he then takes up many, many classes to give the exact same pseudo-lectures that he posted online in person in class thus defeating the purpose. He also dedicates a full lecture to review test results (we have 8 tests - one every week) even after he did a snap poll and nearly every single person agreed they didn't want test result reviews.

The first day of class he went through some feedback from previous semesters. He noted how many people stated that he wasted class time giving redundant, completely unhelpful pseudo-lectures and talking too much about random stuff. Then he stated (no kidding) 'I don't think I talk too much and I'll explain why' and then spent the last 40 minutes of class telling us his teaching philosophy.

So far, we have had a complete lecture dedicated to how he built a garage and a shed and how he's going to build a house. Given this course is about materials, he could have very easily made it on-topic, but he didn't. It was totally a 'look how awesome I am' lecture and a complete waste of time.

He also caters to this annoying sycophant who asks really stupid questions that he knows the answers to and then words questions in such a way as to please the professor, if that makes sense. During our classes when we are all working on homework, this sycophant monopolizes the professors time and has literally followed the professor around the room as he tried to answer other students questions; he couldn't wait for the professor to come back around to his table to answer his 50th question, he had to follow him the whole class period. Oh and any time the professor asks the class something such as 'do we need to review the last test' every person will agree, no we don't want to. Except for the sycophant, he will be the one person who disagrees with everyone else on something and haha! he gets what he wants and we have to deal with it.

Then there is the problem of his tests being terribly worded. On multiple occasions he has worded problems in extremely confusing ways such that if you don't ask him to clarify, you can't answer the question. Consequently, the test scores showed the entire class just guessed the answer to that problem. He admitted he worded it terrible but didn't throw out the question. I've also had professors who will throw out problems that less than ~30% of the class gets correct. Not this guy, oh no. He's had multiple problems where less than 20% of the class got it right and he admitted it was a graduate level problem but he wanted to see if we knew how to do it and we obviously didn't but he didn't throw it out. WTH

I'm just fed up with this class, this professor and his teaching style. I really hate it and I want out. Oh and the wifi at my campus sucks a hard one so when I'm supposed to be doing homework in class I often cannot as the network won't connect to my laptop.

I'm just having a frustrating day that started at 3am when the puppy started whining for attention.

Seems like a somewhat overbearing parent to me. But I daresay he has your best interests at heart. I do think, though, that you are entitled to some privacy.

Heigh-ho! It'll all come right in the end, I'm sure.

Later in the same game as my previous post. Sid, why hast thou forsaken me :(
