Most teachers instruct subs to give work. I'm glad when they don't follow instructions. Last sub I had let us chill out and watch the Maury Povitch show, probably the least mentally stimulating activity known to man. Although it did leave me with this unforgettable quote:

"Throughout our relationship, you was a promiscuous ho."

Yeah... When they don't follow at my school, they usually screw you over.

I had a substitute from Barbados with a terrible accent. It became routine to ask her what part of Jamaica that was, because she would then spend the rest of the period babbling about the difference between the two and her story of coming to America. Thus, no work. She never figured it out.

I'm sorry to hear that Shylock. I know the feeling very well. At some concert of mine ~5 years ago they didn't let my father get in, and at another one, he was not even allowed in the garden of the palace-thing where everything was going on, even though he had an invitation!!

Anyway:


Does "to get stood up" mean what I think it means? I'm not a native English speaker so I'm unsure.

What I think it means: having an appointment/meeting/date with someone and having them not show up, leaving you waiting, annoyed, late, and all in all wasting your time.

That's exactly what it means.

The best part of that one was that she has refused to talk to me since, probably I got angry at her because she stood me up. I will never know exactly what happened that day.

My dad said it'd cost him $3000 and a whole long time of waiting to get his, since he's not a citizen and would have to become one first or something.

I happened so quick, I'm just chilling having a beer, and a friend says "Do you smell smoke?" - then next thing its pretty hard to breath! It was a bit of a laugh though nobody was hurt. Should I sue for my &#8364;8 entry?

No I'm not. It was only when we were usptairs in the place that it was kinda suffocating.

Crappy nightclub though, first time I've been there and if you ask me the place deserved it for the ridiculous hawaiian shirt staff dresscode.
