Random Thoughts 3: A Little Bit of This, and a Little Bit of That...

Actually, I meant the show where they do awesome makeovers of people with make-up and prosthetics and hair dye and what-not and turn them into trolls and orcs and aliens and rock stars.
What's wrong with the 6 Sharknado films?
Everything.

Also, there's other films that rival Ed Wood's capacity for bad film-making, e.g. the attack of the six-headed shark.
I would suspect Rocket League toruments would be hosted on twitch.
There's no twitch tv.

Anyway, if you're really stuck up on the terms "murder" and "rape", then let me rephrase my assertion: "sexual violence is worse than physical violence when considering intent".
You can easily turn that around and say that sexual violence is "less bad" than physical violence because when you're raping a person, then you're just trying to fulfill a need of yours and harming another person is just a side-effect of that, while doing physical violence is always done with the intend of harming a person.

Needless to say, I don't buy into either of those arguments. When it comes to crimes where you intentionally harm a person, how "bad" the crime is should be judged on its effects on the person who is affected, not on the intend of the attacker. Bad intent can be used in court to justify a higher sentence, but it does not make the crime itself worse.

Moderator Action: That's quite enough about the sexual violence topic, thank you very much.

That Asia Argento topic is really interesting. For those who don't know: The woman known to be one of the first advocates for the #metoo movement is alleged to have had sex with an actor who was 17 at the time (she was 37), in California where the age of consent is 18.

So if that's true, she is guilty of statutory rape. Now, I personally think the age of consent should not be 18. Somewhere around 16 seems about right to me, so I started off being somewhat dismissive of the idea that she really did anything wrong here because "Oh well, he was 17, even with the law saying that 18 is the age of consent, hat one year doesn't really matter much.", but according to his own testimony, the event apparently caused him quite a bit of emotional trauma.

That makes the situation weird, because he's a guy in an age where I would say most people are able to make informed decisions when it comes to their sexual desired, and on the surface it seems that there isn't really that much to the case other than that they allegedly had sex that didn't work out that well. Normally I would say: "Mistakes happen, learn from them and move on.", but then it's also true that she was his co-actor (or rather, he was her co-actor), and thus, being much older than he is, she probably was in a position of power towards him at a workplace where she got him to sleep with her.

Overall, it's a really weird story and as much as I would like to yell: "Hah, another hypocritical feminist, who would have guessed!" I really don't know how I feel about it. While everybody seems to have very clear opinions on the case, for me, this case is in that small moral grey area between things that I find okay and things that I find not okay.

This is the Police 2 had a surprisingly conclusive ending. One might even argue it turned out well for the protagonist.

We saw that on TV and my wife looked up and said, that was probably every young boys dream and was likely considered the best day of his life.
I was thinking the same thing but figured it was best just to keep my mouth shut.

And that of course is an extremely harmful sentiment and one of the big reasons male victims of sexual violence are frequently not taken seriously.

Whatever. Most young men fantasize about that type of thing. Not saying that sometimes it's not wanted, but it doesn't change the fact that many would desire it.

For a 17 year old male. 5 years later pops up and demands 3.5 million. Color me suspect.
Now if we were talking about 14 or 15 year old. I'd would think differently.

No one desires to be taken advantage of by someone in a position of trust and authority.

The timing and the request for payoff seems suspicious on this one. And I would be willing to be bet that he did desire it at the time.
Without the shake down I wouldn't be so cynical about it.

But it is just my opinion. At 17 I would have jumped at it. As would many. Just saying.

Probably, but does that mean you would not have experienced negative consequences? From today's perspective, it might seem trivial, but are you sure that your 17yo self that "dream come true" would not have turned into an emotional roller-coaster? Especially given how awkward the situation between the two is being described.

TBH, I think that humans in general are pretty emotionally f'ed up as a rule. It's normal and can be expected. Some deal with it better than others. Some are more public about than others. War and abuse can make things worse. Everyone copes differently. Today, what used to be kept hidden is more revealed. Probably an improvement overall. If Rah had been used at 17 by an older woman, it might have made a difference in his life. Better or worse? Hard to say.

Ah, well, if a child wants it, that makes it okay.
Which is why the ruling class usually gets a pass. ‘Boys will be boys’. His consent is enough.

Your infraviaducto-goblinoidal behaviour is noted.
