Random Thoughts 3: A Little Bit of This, and a Little Bit of That...

What does that have to do with anything? We're not all vain about our ages, y'know.

Your not minding being over 35. :p

I never said I didn't mind. I'm just in less of a position to deny it than I used to be. :)

Takhisis, you're being sexist. :nono:

I turned 55 nearly two months ago. Other than vaguely wishing I'd made some different decisions at some points, I'm not bothered by this. There are compensations, as 55 is old enough for some businesses to start offering seniors' discounts. Not that I've collected any yet since I hardly ever go anywhere anymore, but it's there if I want it (ie. the pet store I shop at offers monthly seniors' discounts).

Of course I won't presume to speak for Lemon Merchant, whose opinions of birthdays - hers or anyone else's - I do not know.

I am making fun of people and gender stereotypes. We had a conversation last night on how a 40-year-old mother is old but a 60-year-old father is in his second youth, if you want to know about my more serious positions.

Well, I certainly considered myself too old to start reproducing, when my mother kept hassling me about making her a grandmother. I was about 40 at the time.

How is it that my weather thingy on my smarphone tells me almost every day that there's a 50+ probability that it will rain, but it hasn't rained here in weeks ?
Which weather thing are you using? You may wish to consider using a different one.

Yeah, she told me, "I intend to become a grandmother."

My view on that (as she was still married to the useless waste of oxygen that was her second husband): "Talk to your step-daughter, then."

Well, the step-daughter (who I have never claimed as kin) did eventually marry and reproduce. From everything I heard, the kid was an absolute brat. So I hope my mother was happy with that, because her pushy attitude with me was basically, "Why don't you pick a guy, get pregnant, and have a baby? I want to be a grandmother!". Not even me reminding her that I was close to 40 and not seeing anyone at that time made a difference.

So I picked up my cat, Gussy, and told her, "Gussy thinks of me as his mother. So that makes him your grandcat. He is the only grandchild you will ever have."

The following May, she wished me Happy Mother's Day... :dunno:

I also need a life, but life's are stoopid!

After having thought about it a couple of times in the last few days, I have come to the conclusion that I'm not going to come to a conclusion on whether I think Social Media is a good thing for humanity or a bad thing. It's such a potentially useful tool, and it has so many positive aspects to it, but at the same time, we humans are really, REALLY bad at using it in a productive way.

This forums still needs a facepalm smiley. :wallbash:

Does CFC count as a social medium? 'cos you promised to teach me insults if I started learning German.

If you find a few you like and ask Petek to install one of them, he might. It would be helpful to explain why it's needed (I'm not disagreeing with you, just mentioning what I did to convince him to install the  and :grouphug: smileys).

Define social media.
Twitter ? Bad !
Facebook ? Bad !
Youtube ? Couple of issues, but I think it's pretty good on balance.

social media before 2007 was good, 2007 and later has been bad

Also a good summary.
Myspace > Facebook.

For all the perceived harshness and the nearly limitless flexibility of compund words, German is actually a rather boring language for insults.

The Internet was so much more awesome around the year 2000. Now it's all commercialized and stuff....

No, no it wasn't. It's much more convenient now. Twitbook and Google have become malevolent Demon Lords, but even they can be useful if you're careful enough when you summon them.
