Random Thoughts X: Impromptu Interpretations

Its adopted us. Our garden has been part of its range all year (possibly longer but I'd guess its only a year or so old) but its the only fox we've seen here in daylight and so long as we are in the house, not the garden, it ignores us.

How does it act when you're out in the garden?

I think if I were a minor celebrity, I’d join the Republican Party.

This isn’t a complaint or anything political, it’s a thought about probability and logistics: there are so many Democrats in Hollywood, if I’ve got a big ego and want to revel in it, there’s just no room for me in the Democrats.

You know darn well that Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, or Steven Spielberg is going to get you bumped from the head table. At least with the Republicans, there’s a good chance of squeezing in.

Is Julia Roberts still working/relevant?

Not that I know of Spielberg doing stuff, but he got to be so famous and directors are privileged so it probably doesn't matter.

I'd be far more interested in seeing Pam in some Berniecrat party, tbh.

Guess why some people actually do join political parties…

Will pandemic bring baby boom? Doctors see conflicting evidence

BY KELCIE WILLIS

THE ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION

A report from WKBW out of Buffalo, New York, says doctors are expecting a baby boom because of the coronavirus pandemic. Doctors in the area told the local station they are seeing more pregnant patients and expect hospitals will be busy in the coming months.
“Starting the first of the year, all the way through June, I think we’re going to have a really big increase in deliveries,” Dr. Maria Corigliano of Audubon Women’s Medical Associates in Buffalo told the station. “Because what do you have to do but eat and procreate?”
Corigliano said her practice delivers about 50 babies each month, but she expects to welcome about 80 each month in 2021.

A concern of hers is the availability of hospital beds, many of which are filled by patients with COVID-19. Another impact of the spread of the virus is that pregnant women with coronavirus could go into premature labor, which could lead to a longer hospital stay.
Although there has been an emergency approval of the coronavirus vaccine, it hasn’t been studied in pregnant women yet. Despite the report out of New York, the boom hasn’t been reported or even expected across the country.

KOLD-TV in Tuscon reported that Dr. Christine Farinelli, of Tucson Medical Center, said she hasn’t seen a pandemic baby boom or bust. “We are definitely very busy,” she said. “We are often busy though this time of the year, so my sense is we’re not necessarily seeing really either.” According to a Tuesday survey from Modern Fertility, which offers at-home hormone tests, 30% of the nearly 4,000 people surveyed said they have changed their family plans due to COVID-19. Of the nearly 1,200 respondents who are changing their plans due to the pandemic, 48% are delaying having children.

And a Thursday report from Brookings Institute predicts a decline in births.

I'm not sure. A lot of relationships are breaking down because they've either become long-distance contactless relationships or the couple's been cooped up for months on end with nothing to do but stare at each other until they couldn't stand the sight of the other.

You must be thinking about Argentina; in the US we all love each other.....

Domestic violence and child abuse are increasing in some areas because everyone's cooped up together, and there are fewer opportunities for the victims to seek help by going to a shelter, some other agency, or for kids to talk to a teacher they trust.

As for "nothing to do but eat and procreate"... has this doctor never heard of work, school, TV, reading, writing, going for walks (where permitted), playing board games, cooking, shopping (where permitted), and so forth?

I'm spending this pandemic in my apartment, hanging out with CFCOT, a couple of other forums, reading and posting on my news site, telling my MLA off several times a week on FB, writing every day - anywhere from a sentence to a couple of thousand words, reading novels and fanfiction, feeding and cuddling Maddy, and a variety of other things. I've been outside 6 times since March (delivery people are less afraid to deliver here if they know I've been staying home and not being careless by going out in crowds).

Now that I've found my portable lap desk, the coloring books and pencil crayons are going to be used (adult coloring is a thing, and one of my friends on another forum is into it).

The issue of baby booms was brought up on our news site a few months ago, and the general view is that there actually won't be one. People are too afraid to get that close, if they work at jobs that bring them into contact with a lot of other people who may be asymptomatic spreaders. I wouldn't want to be a school teacher right now, for instance. Some schools in my province still have 30 kids crammed into classrooms where the 2-metre rule for social distancing is impossible and the government is not inclined to be very helpful to kids whose families can't afford masks.

We all live in Amerika and, as you know, it's wunderbar.

It's a public Facebook post. :dunno:

How about this? https://fb.watch/2yEDwcQ862/
I can watch both of it just fine, perhaps Valka not logged in to her facebook, if there is any possible factor it would be that, if that is even a factor.
That is so ADORABLE!   I love Adelies!

Fun fact about Emperor chicks (not sure if other penguins are like this): The babies' calls are like chirpy little budgie birds. They don't get that dissonant squawk until they're adults.

Not sure why the first link didn't work. I was logged in. :dunno:

I have no idea if I'm on the right track or simply arrogant with a self-inflated sense of intellect.
They're not incompatible with each other.

I am glad we live in a time when it is not socially necessary to wear ruffs.
Torture devices, in my view. :shake:

One of the most practical pieces of advice given to newcomers in the SCA is that when it comes to choosing their persona (the medieval-era role they decide to take on), they should not choose any time/place where the clothing would be too uncomfortable or complicated for them to manage (a very practical consideration is how easy is it to use the bathroom while wearing it).

That's not to say that some people didn't take on early to mid-Tudor-era personas. A friend of mine constructed and wore an outfit that would have fit in at the court of Henry VIII (c. 1520-40 in her case). This was before Elizabeth was Queen and the court became obsessed with ruffs. But there was still a lot of fabric and fussiness that wasn't my own preference, so I based myself 500 years earlier.
