Pre-Turn
since all the units are more or less unmoved or fortified at the front, there is quite some stuff to do.

The army will move onto mountain or jungle, thus lose the rest of the movement points anyway. I take out one of the Spanish swords and then move onto the roaded jungle
The other sword is pinged and will retreat anyway
MW army takes out the archer and a MDI, and then is filled with 4th MW
move 2 more MW's to Canton under th army for attack next turn

move some units towards England, the victim we should take out soon

MM quite a bit, not compromising the builds, but getting more shields. Nanking is building a MDI without a rax. It is still highly corrupted
swap it to a rax. Xinjian also changes to a rax, better for healing

In order to get rid of any flip risk, set London to starve

our income is now at 118gpt

1.320AD
east:
go a little higher risk and move both armies out of London leaving only a spear behind. Move towards York and take out a spear there
Also, defeat archer/horse units in the open

west
bomb an archer outside Xinjian and move an added MW inside as there is a stack of 3 approaching
attack Canton, defeat 2 spars while retreating 1 MW and take city, move sword army in
MW army takes out 2 Korean MDI
ping a Chinese galley, often they will retreat after that

Our Golden age will be over next turn, increase lux to 10% to avoid any riots, we can surely afford that

IT The Chinese galley indeed returns
lose a spear to MDI (I put that spear onto a mountain, too optimistic), win against English archer

2.330AD
east:
take out 4 spears and capture York, the borders combine with London and we own spices now as well, our 4th lux
now we can move a MW to take out an archer threatening London

west:
Canton is very popular with our enemies, 5 healthy units outside, good thing I brought 3 cats along
bomb 2 MDIs, take out an archer and sword while pulling in the MW army as well
Leave sword army unmoved so that it will heal during the IT

lux back to 0%, swap 3 towns to aqueducts, we need some infra and growth
income is down to 69gpt

IT London gets attacked by a horse, but we win, a pike is on the way to help out there
Canton gets attacked by a ACav and a sword pillages

3.340AD
east:
rest army in York and pull more units there so we can take out the 5 remaining cities there

west: take out intruder sword with e-sword, no leader
use armies to take out 3 MDI and a sword

IT nothing much

4. 350AD
lose a sword, manage to take out 2 spears and take tundra Hangchow

east: start to attack Liverpool taking out 1 spear
take out horse at London

west:
bomb the 4 MDI's at Canton, take out only 1 losing a sword, MW army rests

IT no attacks but a Spanish galley comes near

5.360AD
east:
take out 1 spear and capture Liverpool. move on to Hastings taking out a spear there

west: take out 2 stray units, no leader
take out 3 units at canton, our 2 armies can easily hold off the enemy there

IT the AI gets a little smarter now and tries to avoid Canton
Spain lands a deadly warrior in our hinterland

6.370AD
east: take out 2 spears and Hastings is ours
take out a horse there as well

west: take out 3 units, no leader yet again

IT more and more galleys are sailing around and England drops a horse next to the warrior
our capital and Greebley's River get an aqueduct each

7.380AD
Korea knows engineering now
uncover the 3 remaining English towns in the east and start to attack Coventry

take out the landed horse and warrior and almost lose a sword to that warrior :eek:
take out a spear and 2 MDI, Spain has the now too

IT we lose an exposed spear to a MDI
China lands 2 spears at the favorite landing zone

8.390AD
we take Coventry and Nottingham to boost our income
found English core to fill the gap in the tundra

defeat 3 maces with elites, no leader yet again
move a settler out, since England is almost gone, we can think of expansion in the west
put a pike into Xinjian as it is threatened by 2 units
the spears are merely wounded. no need to attack them on mountains

IT well, the Spanish archer doesn't attack Xinjian, the English move out a spear from their last city in the eastern tundra

decide it's time to end the English presence in this game

leave 1 army in the east for zone defense there and pull the 2nd army to the west to help out there to expand

found Gano in the jungle west, it's a little risky but we should be able to hold on and with a 3rd army, we should be able to expand there

It would be nice to finally get a MGL for the palace jump.
Note, that I let quite a few citied grow to pop 7. his helps immensely with unit support and our income is back to 109gpt due to that

the sword army in Canton hasn't moved. We need a few better defenders there, then we could move the army towards the south to take out China. I would also like us to take out the Spanish horses as the UU is really troublesome. Spain isn't that big and it should be possible to do so.

The jungle to Gano needs to be roaded. We do have a few maces around + MW army but we might need more defenders there and cats (but we need a road there)

I usually do that too, guess I forgot to do it before I passed the save.

Does the AI usually have a lot of galleys sailing around the continent?

Also, I think Canton should be abandoned and resettled one tile NW so it can be CxxC with Xinjian and Caughnawaga (Well, when we get a settler to the spot, of course).

BTW, I see that I'm up after Overseer. We're leaving tonight for a friend's cabin on the Pacific Coast, returning approx Aug 30/31. I'll have internet access, but no Civ. :( Please put me on skip until I return.

It seems like August is a popular time for vacations.
 
I guess that means I am up. I can't play til Saturday as I have plans tomorrow. I do have the save, looks pretty good. Now that England is toast, we can start whittling Spain and Korea down to size. We have already done massive damage to China, but haven't eliminated them yet. I might have a less chaotic turnset with all enemies on the same front. If I can get a MGL I will do the palace jump to Centralia (that is the right place?) Anything else I can do during my turns, please post it.
 
I guess it's just me, Rat, and Overseer for a week.

I hope we can eliminate China soon - the Chinese citizens won't stop complaining. ;)

Seems like it, but I will take my vacation end of september as I need to follow our exam schedule etc. I guess it is fine to slow down a little, otherwise the training game is not really training for everyone.

yes, Centralia is the proposed new capital. I had terrible leader luck, thus no capital jump. We still have the HE to build btw.

However, I would use the 2nd MGL for another army, either a MDI or even knight army (engineering is know and we might get chivalry at one point).

Once knights are part of the game, we need to be more careful about our front cities. More artillery and better defenders. I started filling some cities with pikes, as I generally dislike empty cities at the coast. We do need some pikes at the front. Remember that pikes are fantastic defenders as they are very cheap (especially compared to muskets)


Might I ask where you plan on going for vacation, Rat?
Oh, that's my usual yearly visit to my home in Frankonia (a part of Southern-Germany). It's always nice to go back home to see the family, go for some Bundesliga soccer action, drink some beer etc. Not forgetting the great food :)
 
I did 9 turns to get things even again. Razed 1 enemy city, kept 1, settled 2. I think we're about ready to go offensive on Spain, and soon Korea, once we get some knights. The visible Spanish iron and horses can be taken away in a couple of turns. Here is my log:

I would pull out the army from Tsintao even before the IT and start to pillage those resources. We don' want to see a single conquistador

I checked the MM. As painful as MM is, it will make th difference between a good an great player. Nottingham for example is working a grass tile and a forest tundra, but it makes only 1 spt anyway. Can change the forest tundra to another grass for faster growth. Similar for Warwick, Greebley's Heights and Liverpool. London can work a hill and make 3spt (uncorrupted).

There are a few clowns employed which can be changed to taxmen. Clowns should be avoided at all means. However, there are 2 cities that could revolt in the IT. Be careful about that. Civassist 2 is a handy program to detect that.

Overall, things look bright and I hope we do get a MGL finally for a capital jump. I would also say, that if we manage to get another knight army, we should fill it with 3 units only to be able to ship with galleons.

I tried to shoehorn this into my schedule, but my workload right now simply will not tolerate a second SG. Thank you for allowing me in & please accept my sincerest apologies. I will, of course, continue to lurk & learn.
