RB1 - Cuban Isolationists

Sirian, could you take a moment to explain what's happening back on the home front?

First, I noticed you had around 90% wealth and were building up quite a reserve. Now I see you've changed it to 80% Science/20% Culture. That explains the massive reserves (so you could decifit spend for a while), but not the reasoning. Why are you having these sudden changes from Wealth to Science when you've researched everything? Why is your Culture slowly climbing up? Feeling the burn of War Weariness, perhaps?

It wasn't until I tried for a Domination-victory that I realized how important Culture is in negating War Weariness for warmongers. Theatres are a dictator's friend. (Double the Happiness per Culture = half the necessary Culture.) Bread and circuses for the masses!

The home front is training troops. We finished the Internet, but that's mostly for denial purposes. (I doubt we'll pull any tech from it.) The Space Elevator is almost done.

We had a golden age. I started it on my round, and it finished on my round.

I ran all cash and was rushing stuff, but frankly ran out of (worthwhile) things to rush, so I thought we'd grab one future tech. What the heck.

Our game will finish according to military output and speed of advance. The rest, now, is secondary.

1974AD (continued): The Battle of Vilcabamba

This city is -not- out of airstrike range.

rb1-484.jpg

Yet despite softening up the targets, they still manage to pull a surprise!

rb1-485.jpg

These mechs are no joke. This is the first time we've had to fight contemporary units.

Fight fire with fire, I always say.

rb1-486.jpg

Fire is cool. Er... hot. Something like that!

rb1-418.jpg

Six major Incan cities have fallen. If I can 532 Machu Picchu, that will make seven.

Some back-line mop-up of mine guards:

rb1-487.jpg

I roll some units forward, all I can send toward Machu Picchu.

NOW FOR THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

Tank Driver #1: "Hey, I'm thirsty."

Tank Driver #2: "Yeah, me too. And I wouldn't mind getting some Doritos."

Tank Driver #1: "Hey, I've got the munchies, too. Mmm. Nacho Cheese."

Tank Driver #2: "Yeah. Why don't we raid the local Sam's Club?"

Tank Driver #1: "Hey, that's an idea. Let's do it."

A shot of the local Sam's Club:

Fahrenheit 532, the temperature at which Roman cities burn.

1974AD (continued): Re-engaging the Romans also re-engages all remaining WW from our previous fight.

(That's not good!)

rb1-490.jpg

I run the Luxury Tax up to 50% (That's FIFTY PERCENT. Five-O. 5x10!)
That is still not enough to satisfy some of these yahoos. :crazyeye:

This is why I waited until our forces were in position at both cities, to declare.
The plan is to keep it simple: get in there, 532, and get the hell out.

The loss of revenues means the tech breakthrough is slowed. Sulla can deal with it.

Final mop-up of offending Japanese invasion:

rb1-491.jpg

I've managed to stave off starvation at all cities. Pisae is a close call, though!

rb1-492.jpg

Whew! Thank Hydra Almighty, there is only one more turn to go! (On this round.)

IBT 1974AD: Incans strike back at our forward units!

rb1-493.jpg

That was an Artillery attack (you can see the small alert bubble).
The Planes are also flying.

I am preparing a secure location where Caesar can rot in the dungeon.

rb1-494.jpg

Our SAM unit intercepted one Fighter, but two others got through:

rb1-495.jpg

One of our Mechs also intercepted a fighter.

rb1-496.jpg

OMG! WTH is going on up here?!?

rb1-497.jpg

That rat bastid! :aargh: Incans have moved in reinforcements TO HELP PROTECT CAESAR!

You know what this means:

1975AD: If we don't take out Rome on this turn, it will mean another round of heavy War Anger. :(

I sent extra units, though. Apparently, just enough of them!

Sometimes it's better to be good than lucky. :cooool:

I have six armors and a mech vs three Incan Infantry and four Roman SAMs.

Let's get it on!

rb1-498.jpg

Have I mentioned how much I adore City Raider III tanks with Barrage thrown in? :D

One down, six to go:

rb1-499.jpg

Two down, five to go.

Three...

Four...

Five down, two to go:

rb1-500.jpg

Now for the last one:

rb1-501.jpg

We are the firemen, coming for you. (Translation: 532!)

rb1-420.jpg

All roads lead to Rome.

1975AD (continued): Vengeful Incan units slaughtered two of our workers. They must pay.

rb1-502.jpg

Cry havoc! And let slip the dogs of war. :ar15:

rb1-503.jpg

Every dog has his day:

rb1-504.jpg

Then it's my turn again:

rb1-505.jpg

Did you see that? DID YOU SEE? -4% damage? That's pathetic.

!@#$! Air Raid Shelters. I'm out of bombers and they are still fairly healthy.

"Feeling lucky today, punk?"

rb1-506.jpg

rb1-507.jpg

The numbers.

THE NUMBERS!

It must be destiny. The universe cries out with serendipity.

rb1-421.jpg

Fahrenheit 532, the temperature at which cities burn.

1975AD (continued): Remember when I said I needed to establish a base deep in Incan territory?

rb1-508.jpg

There it is. Air Base 532. :)

I'm sure Sulla can find some uses for that site. :cooool:

Now for Caesar's curtain call: the battle of Velitrae.

Our tanks roll.

rb1-509.jpg

rb1-510.jpg

"Knock Knock"

"Who's there?"

"Nation"

"Nation who?"

"Now crossing the border in to the land of Elimi Nation."

rb1-422.jpg

Caesar, when you attacked us a thousand years ago: YOU CHOSE UNWISELY. :hammer:

Good-bye, good riddance, and farewell. :wavey:

1975AD (continued): The Battle of Argos.

!@#$! Air Raid Shelters. :gripe:

rb1-511.jpg

Our choppers fly:

rb1-512.jpg

Glug glug glug, down she goes. Sleepin with the fishies.
fish.gif

532ed.

rb1-423.jpg

Did you know that you can pillage away the blight of a City Ruins? (I didn't!)

rb1-513.jpg

How cool is that?

So endeth the Longest Turn Ever(TM). :)

I can't believe you guys actually stuck around and put up with me. Thanks. :thanx:

You're the best!

Final thoughts (and screens) before I ship the save off to Sulla.

We've got plenty of cushion on the domination threshold.

rb1-514.jpg

Should be OK to plant some bases, where genuinely needed.

Alex was building ship parts earlier in my round. Curiously, he has stopped.
(May have something to do with that whole "survival instinct" thing.)

The tasks that still lie before us:

rb1-515.jpg

Cultural overlay:

rb1-516.jpg

DOTMAP KEY:
Yellow Dots are Incan cities 532ed on this round.
Green Dots are Greek.
Pink Dots are Roman.
Red Dot is Japanese.
White Dot is Barbarian.

rb1-517.jpg

rb1-518.jpg

One green dot (Herakleia) is missing, under the population marker for Fahrenheit 532.

World map:

rb1-519.jpg

Soren fixed the religion advisor in patch 109.
Now shows all cities, with Kung Fu Grip(TM) scrolling action!

rb1-520.jpg

That's not the only patch fix that came out of RB1, either.

Sulla is set up for taking Gepid on his first turn.

rb1-521.jpg

Further action down in Incan lands will require a bit more effort.

rb1-522.jpg

So... I left some units down there unmoved.
Sulla can order them around as he sees fit.

That's it. That's all for now.

I see you're still running a deficit ... how soon after eliminating Caesar does the WW disappear? Immediately? Next turn?

Note to self: Build Air Raid Shelters :D

I'd like to say that it did in fact take about 10-15 mins to load this page on Dial-up. *Sigh* I want my broadband back.

EDIT: Also, I'm sure you've noticed, but in your recent turns, you've been running 50% Culture, 30% Science and... therefore.. 20% Cash... 5-3-2... Coincidence...? I think probably, but still.

I thought there was something recently familiar about the number 532. Minutes ago I entered the Modern Age and it suddenly hit me square in the face....
(a bit Dyslexic though)

I'd hate to be trying to load this on dialup. (Even though the shots are all jpegs.)

Hope you are enjoying the show.

Try it on Satellite Internet! :mischief:

I've had to reload the page several times, and I still didn't get all the pictures. Oh well, we pull back in on Friday. I'll be able to view it then.

BTW, just a little tip: if you are using IE, and not all pictures load, you don't have to reload the whole page to see them. Just right-click the red-X, and select "Show Picture". It will just reload that picture, and so you don't have to wait for the pictures that already loaded to come up again. :)

Wow! 1000 posts. That is a lot. Good job Sirian and Sulla.
