Reagan the new face of the $10 bill or dime? Oh hell no.

I say we dump Grant and put Clinton on it!

None of this 'great man' tosh. He was useless and everyone knew it. The principle reason why he's so liked - apart from being dead - is because the USSR happened to fall apart on his watch. His little arms race may have accelerated the Soviet decline by a few years, but the holes which eventually sank the (already rather badly constructed and probably not watertight) ship were made by Stalin, and only added to by his successors.

Combine this fortuitous timing and general uselessness with a lowering of taxes, an amusing assassination attempt, a period of high consumer confidence (see above) and his being an insane Christian (he once made an interesting speech wherein he accused Libya of leading the world to armageddon, Russia of being the kingdom of Gog and being allied against God, and went on to advocate nuclear war) and you have the ideal Republican president. Takes orders, doesn't care, bit loony, crap actor, great stuff. It's not a formula which anyone'd try to repeat, eh?

"useless" is a strong and perhaps ignorant word to describe Ronald Reagan. "Everyone" apparently DIDN'T know "it" since he was elected to two terms as president, served as governor of California and was the president of the Screen Actors Guild and for the record, was an FDR Democrat. so the best defense against a SOviet nuclear attack is to stand idly by as the russians stockpile icbm's? uh...no. Reagan took a pro-active stance and contributed to the demise of the USSR. this much should be acknowledged.
i don't find anything "amusing" about an assasination attempt on ANY president. but i suppose your entitled to your opinion

Everytime someone significant dies the media makes a big show over it. In a few weeks it will be on the news and most people won't care anymore. Happens when every president dies.

that, my friend, is a matter of opinion.

i am of the school of thought that it was reagan, while increasing military expenditures threefold, who was primarily responsible for bankrupting the soviets b/c they knew that they simply couldn't keep up.

as for the huge deficits, things in life ain't free and if we had to run up those types of deficits again to wipe out, say, terrorism, i would do it in a heartbeat.

The Soviets had started overspending in the 1980s.

Funny you call his comment an opinion, when your comment is also. At least DP's opinion states up to factual evidence.

Please, not Reagan for anything. He did nothing great. Put TR on something, if any new faces on the coins or bills.

I agree this is a hell no. Jeez if the Dems aren't opposing this then they're capital-W wieners. Then Again I have no actual say because I'm not American so w/e you want the gripper on your money go ahead. Although from what I understand Nancy Reagan said that she didn't think he would want this sort of thing. Ironic isn't?

Right now I think Reagan has the BEST shot at the $1 bill or coin, because it's still in a state of flux given the recent upgrade of the larger denominations and the lack of overwhelming success of the Sacagawea $1 coin.

Reagan's popularity could provide an incentive to shift to a coin-based dollar, something the mint would like to do for long-term cost-savings purposes.

I would want Reagan on the 1$ coin because the person on it right now wasn't a U.S citizen.

By some people's definition, Sacagewea is more an American citizen than Reagan... Given that she is Native American, helped America grow by aiding its explorers...

She helped but why not put Lewis and Clark on the coin? They were the ones who lead the expedition and did alot of mapping and exploring.

Reagan has exactly zero (0) chance of displacing George Washington on the $1 bill.

That's an interesting idea, although it could never happen because defenders of political correctness would cry bloody murder. (Not that I think Reagan deserves to be on currency in the first place.)

Sacagewea should be on a coin, IMO, because she isnt that important to US history.
If she isn't important then she shouldn't be on the coin.

I think he meant "she shouldn't be on a coin" rather than "she should be on a coin"

I think the $50 is the best canidate for a makeover but I would prefer to see Martin Luther King rather than Reagan. King did more for this country than probably any other non-President and certainly more than Reagan.
