Replay #8 4 µ m8s <3

It's amazing that you only built three Missionaries in this game and had your state religion in nearly every one of your cities. That helps explain why you like Theocracy so much. In most of my games with Theocracy, I have a strong hammer city generating missionaries nearly non-stop. I suppose that Isabella founding a Religion for you and spreading it around might reduce the need for Missionaries. Did something like that occur in your game? Did I miss your explanation of how your state religion was spread?

I must agree that Bureaucracy plays a major role in "nearly" every HoF game where Civil Service is acquired early enough to justify a switch to Bureaucracy. Notice how I almost always never state comparisons in terms of superlatives like "best", "most", or "always", etc. or their opposites. In my opinion, superlative statements need to be backed up with (mathematical) proofs. It's always easier to assume a counter example and often it is not that hard to find one.

When I first saw you had the HE in a city with almost no hammers I was confused.

Then I see GT. I never thought to pair these two. Drafting is very compatible with the GT, but does not do anything special with the HE. side note: Truth be told, I've only built the HE a couple times...ever. Only in my recent Civ career have I become enough of a warmonger to build this. In the past, my wars, if any at all, were over before I get Literature. Enough about me.

London:
I would whip military in that city every other turn for the entire game! It's almost like having sushi there. However, I would not want the Palace there. Let another city focus on working cottages while this city's streets run red with the blood of it's citizens:satan:

...thinking....

My brain can't stop processing this new combo. I must see if it can be abused in unnatural ways!:mischief: Unfortunately, I've already built the HE in my latest monster game. I've said too much, Kaitzilla will read my mind and beat me to the tactic.

If only the HE worked on missionaries and executives!

Thx for turning me on to this.

There was one reason for me to choose London as the new Capital, and that was that I hadn't gotten a GS until then (and chances to get one in the future were like 50% with all the GP-Pollution from those Wonders) and London had an Academy + a River + 2 or 3 already grown Villages, so it was my best pick with my plan of running Buro until Nationhood would become available.

And yes, GT is great for drafting, but even once drafting is available, there's still good need for the Whip, because it's i. e. impossible to draft Cavalries and / or Cannons. Someone once said to me that "ideally, you want to draft and whip in that city" , think it was vranasm who said that. Of course this is only possible on normal speed, on Epic, the Food-bar is too large for the city to regrow so fast that both is viable.

I'm btw. not sure if that combo is really new, and I'm not 100% sure if it's really a good choice in most scenarios. This game, I had no other way but to build the 2 in exactly that city, but generally, the GT is a very expensive building, and all the Hammers invested into it, could have already been Hammers getting multiplied by the HE into a decent number of troops.

Unfortunately I'm btw. not able to guess the idea that you have, cannot be that simple as building the GT to spread Executives, because I did that already in Replay #4. I'd be interested in one thing though: Do you and Kaitzilla know each other in RL, or are you two just very good friends that met here at Civfanatics?

Kaitzilla and I have actually not had much interaction outside of a couple SG's. But I sense he shares my evil tendencies for abusing mechanics and has already read my mind once recently (leading up to the new Espionage victory condition.)

Epic speed would work fine (marathon not as well).
On Epic, a size 10 city has a food bin of 60, right?
So it only needs 30 food to grow.
That's just +15 food/turn.
Your city has +17 food at size 4!! and only goes up from there.

Thx for that information :) . You'll find it funny, but I actually was already suspicious, if you and Kai weren't even a couple, because I felt the connection between you ^^ .

I understand how you ment this, you ment that "you'd whip on every off-turn" , so basically every 2nd turn![/b] Post above said you'd whip every turn, and that'd be something only possible at very small city sizes, not sure if it's possible at all on epic. That's what you tried to say, so there's a "not" missing in the sentence about epic-speed? I'm guessing that from that you say "aswell" regarding Marathon.

Really having a hard time to follow what you're writing, maybe you'll correct / explain what you ment, and don't forget to *whispers* tell me the idea you have Wastin *whisper* ^^ .

I'm kinda getting the feeling that this here game of yours is the most well executed game in the history of Civ 4 that.....is there any point to playing now that the standard has been set so high?.....lol.

I once met someone with whom I played together for several years, and that someone always said "I've reached the maximum rank now, why should I quit playing? I worked to get here, now is the time to enjoy, why should I quit?"

That person was the best player of his class (Mage) for very long, and there are still videos that can be found of him in the internet today. He's known by the name of "Lightwalker" , and interestingly enough, his real name was also "Phil" .

I'm guessing that from that you say "aswell" regarding Marathon.

Again, we're just having an English problem.

rephrase:
Epic speed works fine for whipping every 2nd turn.

Marathon does not work fine. (i.e. marathon is not as good as Epic at this)
(but the proper English I wrote was: Marathon does not work "as well" (meaning 'as good')

Now imagine that every Forrests is almost 1 Cho-Ku, now imagine a Cho-Ku instead of the tile where the Forrest is on, that'd be an army that were even larger than the one I'm already having!

You really opened my eyes on the power of chopping here. It's not that I haven't chopped before, but you really go all out on it, and with amazing results. I need more forests...

This is quite right. :goodjob:

I've always been a bit jealous of some of Wastin's games since I've never quite been able to replicate them. (Looking at you 5 million points and 700AD space)

Therefore I was quite pleased to steal the new victory condition thunder from him :p

No minding reading needed. Anyone familiar with SGOTM-16 knew actually exactly what you were up to in that Gauntlet: Espionage Assisted Cultural Victory. At least that is what I thought in split second after reading that you were working on an out of the box strategy for that gauntlet's cultural victory.

Ok, you're both mind readers, because I didn't think I gave enough of a hint for you to know what I was up to. After all, it had been a long time since SG16...many months. And our team did not even do that tactic in SG16. Only one team did.

Has nothing to do with mind-reading, WastinTime. STW & Kaitzilla know you, and you shared the SGOTM 16 experience with them. They knew about you, because of what you wrote, even I knew back than, you told things like "this is not ok, it takes everything out of normal culture games" , words that I remember. It's normal for you, as a sith, to devote yourself to hate and destruction, so people know you, they know who you are, what you do, and what you think when you tell it, and those people are your friends, like me.

What you procalim to be mind-reading, is something impossible to humans in their current state, and it'll take 100's of years still, 'til human minds will be developed far enough to really do something like that. All that's possible atm. are the things I talked of. It's, by knowing someone, and by being really good at reading, people can "guess" or "assume" what someone's up to, and fill what they don't know with what they know about life.

Thinking others could "really" read your mind, comes from a state which is known by the word of Psychosis, something I, as a medicine, but even more I, as the person behind Seraiel, knows very very well, as I suffered from it over 5 years. It was a long way to get away from that state again, I still find it hard to trust myself and trust others today sometimes, but I do, as I trust in you, that you understood this, and that you will write a PM to me. If you don't explain how your words are ment, I will ask you, because as said, I regard you as my friend, we've shared a lot of time in our past, and what I've seen lately of you needs to be talked about.

The mind-reader comment was just a joke or, more accurately, an exaggeration. It was a compliment to the sharp intelligence of those that deduced what I was thinking such that it almost seemed like mind reading.

I was planning to play an Espionage assisted Cultural Victory since the end of SGOTM-16 and Plastic Ducks culture injection tactic that secured the gold laurels. When you posted your plan using a new strategy, I knew it was too late for me to do that (at least be the first to do that in a HoF game). Kaitzilla, on the other hand took it as a challenge to beat you at the punch, which he did.

Time for the next part of the writeup :)

I currently cannot play the game I want to, because (as some may alaready now) , I decided to go for a Marathon time victory, and yes, Marathon + time-victory = the fuq :D .

Yes... This game however was great, it was exciting 'til the end, the last part of the writeup has been some days ago already, and with getting such great compliments for the last part, I'm 100% motivated to write on the next, so let's go!

--------------------------

We left at 50 BC :) :

What's going to come now, is the rest of the war against Lizzy, that "looked too easy" :> .
Next cities to come: Newcastle and Canterbury!

Chose this screen showing the map, as it was asked for. Important cities are marked, beasides that, only things I find interesting on that screen is, that Washington + Roosevelt have huge territories, while Frederick is somehow hanging back. Peter sits somewhere in the NE of the tundra, and there's even a very small piece of Culture of GLH-powered Superfast-AI Pacal noticable.

Let's zoom closer:

As you see, Newcastle is the stronger defended city, it has 6 defenders, but that city's only got 20% cultural and no Walls, leading to the Heroes which are short before the attack to have 80%+ chances. Canterbury has less defenders, however that city is one of those fearsome Hills + Walls cities that you all know. I ain't got Construction so Catapults yet, but as I set Espionage directly towards Lizzy in the beginning thinking I would love the option of a Spy-Revolt, I just have enough points for this single revolt. The spy is a little late, but with healing and everything, he'll still be in time.

Below the heroes you see powerful players as WastinTime, Kaitzilla and Sun Tzu Wu, but it's 7 vs 6, will they take the city? WastinTime has to go first, because he's the strongest against that Archer, will he...

Of course he will! Wouldn't be WastinTime who'd let his friends hanging, wouldn't he?

After him, it's Kaitzilla's turn, but oh noez, Kaitzilla is skilled to Shock and he has to fight a Chariot, will he succeed?

But not everybody is as frightening as Kaitzilla, at least not everyone looks as frightening, Giny is actually...

Yes! She is spekaing partly german there and I assure you, that that english Swordsman choose to be shot freely, because he knew that Giny always plays in the winning team and that she's a winner herself! He didn't even scratch her, she wins flawless!

And the kills follow fastly one after another until... :

XD XD XD

City falls without any losses :D .

Of course, STW also fights flawless.

Next turn so 20 BC... :

The Palace has been completed in London! The chinese are finally coming out of their research-hole, as the demographics also show:

Wow, a lot better than I'd have expected! This is still with the running GA, anyhow, that's astonishing, almost everywhere on #1 and that with so few population!

Anyhow, who's interested in that... What you want to see, are the heroes that are hurrying without any healing to the next city already, but...

Now the heroes got 1 problem... That Spy which the chinese built was stopped at the english borders. The heroes are discussing this new developement:

BigBossPlayer gathers his new powers...

He attacks!!!!!!!!!

And he wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But with that Archer gone, chances against that Walls / Hills city havn't really risen, still only 30% for the next attacker:

Now just that to make this clear, this is purely fictional, and heroes cannot die, but following MMORPGS, the heroes have to soulwalk to the next resurrect point and later, healers will be also resurrecting them in place! (At the current state of the game, there are too little troops for resurrecting directly. )

Flashhand's words inspire the heroes and they take Canterbury without any further losses!

Now next turn... :

So the heroes are not in the best mood currently, lacking a high-rank healer is always something very important in MMOs, but thankfully I arrive just in time:

To find:

Yes, where is Giny?

------------------------

With Paper being finished, it's time to look at the complete worldmap again:

Not too much info, but having the complete worldmap is always something nice.

And: I got lucky ^^:

Update from the tech-screen:

With the newly distributed espionage, lets have a look where our friends stand: The Graphs from 55 AD:

Hi :)

Unfortunately, and because you're the only one who answered to the most recent update until know, I don't know if this feedback is 100% positive.

Golden days of Stories and Tales sounds good, but the sentence afterwards I don't understand unfortunately, reaching new heights of awesomeness, I always try for that, but what means "try to keep a bit more of the informational and fully dual-wield skill / kowledge" ?

Does this refer to the "Roleplay-Comic-Style" that I used in the latest update, or does it refer to the posts before?
