It makes more sense if you realize, that in my naivete, I had figured the nation was formed around 1865-1870 or so. I was not aware that the PoD was post WW2 and the current time was the 1970's.
Honestly, I never shed a thought to what year it was, I just saw the picture in the OP and thought around the mid-19th century to very early 20th.
I'll make a new nation from the scraps of a Colonial European power's claims in Africa if it's too much out of the correct timeline. Although nobody said this little ASB nation couldn't have prospered into this time period.
The only real issues with the formation of a Southern government in exile in Africa are:
1. Resistance from local blacks, who would obviously not be very friendly to Southern ways.
2. Resistance from European Powers in the area, who would not want a new player on the block.
3. The biggest issue, population. Even a "sizable" exodus would not give the Confederates nearly enough manpower to support a new nation, escpecially not on a whole new continent. Although this could account for why they're still so small in the 70's.
Other than that, why is it so ridiculous? There was a
war over the rights Southerners thought were being infringed upon. It's not like there's no die-hards in the South willing to ship out once they start losing.
Do we seriously have to keep arguing about this? It hasn't even started yet!
