ROTQM7: Really?! Okay . . . Thanks for the "Memories"

soooo....maybe we can get a swap w/ruff ~ or is Imhotep actually playing until thursday, and that's not a mistake??

Okay, I'm sceptical about the culture variant, but we made some progress. First of all we got a useful event. I decided to gamble, and it paid:

We have a GS in the capital. I suggest going for an Academy for +4 Culture and the science boost...or maybe bulbing part of Liberalism...

maybe we could become 'removalists' and if we find a nice building in a city that we capture, we can take it apart - ship it home bit by bit and then put it back together.

got it - any suggestions?

How I love that. First bickering about "oh, is he going to play until Thursday or was that a mistake" and then delivering no comments... :trouble:

Looking well, we are heading for Liberalism, should be the first there. Question is Nationalism or Astronomy. Nationalism is needed for Hermitage. Astronomy is to ensure we do not lose to a conquest.

The remaining take to build the temples, and cathedrals, and confused the capitol.

As for military, we probably will be clearing up those new settlements. Build more ships, we need them soon.

You know how we think that various groups on the internet steal our great ideas? Well, it has even spread to the GOTM! Look at the latest GOTM. You are playing as Isabella but with a twist: This game is a 3-city challenge. Instead of a settler, you start with 3 newly founded cities, and play with the OCC flag set (obviously, the start is WB'd and you are given your 2nd and 3rd city) but it is taylor made for a cultural victory.

Anyway, played through to the discovery of Liberalism ... and I took ? as our free technology (got to preserve a little bit of mystery!

I killed 2 small cities (oops - forgot to pillage so I just left that money on the ground for Fox :D). Also found some my Cyrus cities that we can reach with our galleys (soo slow). Unfortunately, the big cities he has there are just too big for us at the moment - 100% defenses, with longbows, pikes, etc. I'm loaded our units back onto our galleys and started looking for a softer target.

I built 3 friggn conf missionaries for our capital. Two failures! One is currently on his way to catch a galley / ferry ride to the capital. Third time is the charm?

I small prize to whomever gets our Capital confused (no using WB!).

Education came in and I dialed down research to 0% while we built some universities. Our Great Scientist was converted into an academy (sort of like killing him and putting him in the foundations - guess that increases people's desire for knowledge so that they can become also found a building.

Research power before University in Capital ...
100% Research: 232 per turn

Research power after University in Capital ...
100% Research: 248 per turn

Hmmn - doesn't seem like much of an improvement. I might have mistakenly left our capital in 'max hammer' mode (swapped to that while biulding the Uni. Checking the last turn ...

100% Research: 275 per turn

Yeah - that's better.

Ok, I will tell you the tech we got with Liberalism ...

Tech research finished: Liberalism
Tech acquired (trade, lightbulb, hut, espionage): Astronomy

Fox also mentioned Nationalism for the Hermatage but ... really ... this game is about smashing things up (isn't it?) ... and what is better than privateers, frigates and heavily laden galleons for that!

Sorry - no pictures - I am sure that everyone is sick of seeing little red writing saying "Conf failed to spread".

Oh: Thought of a nice way to finish this off - tech to frigates, galleons then turn off tech and go culture while your armada sails the 7 seas killing all coastal cities. They AI cannot hit you if it cannot build boats :D.

Obviously, teching to steel is the plan, I am not sure abt killing all coastal cities will work ... that will win us a conquest victory ;)

PP and Nationalism is still needed before we turned off research. In fact, I suggest taking at least Nationalism first, Hermitage is not easy to build, and we are building it in the hammer-poorest Aksum.

oh, easy there fella ~ i wasn't bickering ~ just honestly confused

but really, your set was the most FANTASTIC SET I'VE EVER SEEN IN THESE BOARDS IN, LO, TEN YEARS!

but seriously, good sets guys ~ maybe it's my ignorant optimism, but i think we have this thing in the bag, culture victory and all. course, you never know . . . I AM involved in the game, so . . .

i've got it. will work on the 3 C's: confusion, culture and conquests ~

and of course ~ everyone steals our ideas ~ they're, uhm, what's teh word...oh yeah, awesome ;) :)

oh c'mon! coach pholkhero gets in late during the week...cut him some slack.

it's coming tonight.

[slinks in]

ahem ~

Waiting 47 hours to ask for a skip is lame.

Yes. It is lame.

sorry guys, but i was just hammered this week expectantly. i told you i coach fox's relatives on the badminton team, but I just got handed after-school tutoring this week, too.

I knew it was going to be rough, and wanted to squeeze it in sunday, but . . . and then i've just been dead tired every night. see my kids for 10 minutes before they go to bed ~ all that crap. :(

boo hoo

poor me.

in any case, though, i DO need a skip this time 'round. Or even a swap. Once the weekend hits, I'm kid-and-wife-free! :D

edit: and of course, i stand bravely before your satirical, forthcoming comments :whipped:

Start of the game, saw this:

RotQM7-AD1660-FreeRel.jpg

Think for a while, I decided we still need Bureaucracy for a while ... plus I am going gamble on Taj Mahal -- if we get a golden age, we can then switch away from Bureaucracy and Slavery,

Having said that, I switched to Nationalism. While warring is fun, our objective is still to win culturally. We need to get Hermitage up ASAP. I presume we are in 0% research for the money to upgrade our galleys, but really, it is far easier to build more galleons and retire those galleys. Also, I focuses our pop on those hamlets. We need them to be full town by the time we switch to 100% culture, so please don't get diverted from what is really needed.

good news:

RotQM7-AD1670-Confused.jpg

Third time the charm, huh? So, what did I win? Never feel better getting confused. :D

bad news:

RotQM7-AD1675-UoS.jpg

Well, I was half-hearted to begin with ... so no big deal there.

Although I have been ranting abt focusing on culture, I doesn't mean I ignore military totally.

RotQM7-AD1675-razed-Cyrus.jpg

I got us Nationalism, and we have a scientist pop. Not sure if academy is worth it at this stage, or should we bulb part of PP?

RotQM7-AD1712-scientist.jpg

We should build the Hermitage in Gondor, and may be the cheapest cathedral as well. In retrospect, we should have settled the great artist from Music (would have served us better than saving him for bulb) ... but what's done is done. Now is too late.

Good luck.
