Russia Invades Ukraine

this in place for future in the "unlikely" case Russia wins

try testing your courage when your Goverments do not want to explain what might have gone wrong .

I don't think there is a Russian victory scenario.

They might win militarily in Ukraine.

May be, but it's not going to happen.

I wouldn't be so sure. Looks like battle for Kiev is about to begin in earnest, and that will be a meatgrinder. Eventually, Russians will run of ammo, fuel and most importantly, will to fight. Seems like many of them didn't even know they're in Ukraine for a war, not exercise, until the shooting started. Then there will be window for counterattack.

What kind of "deal" is this?
the world is talking about a nuclear war , hawks are desiring a coup in Russia , where there might be or might not be suppression without the coup . Courage is when there is risk and there is some reason about against "the sharks smelling blood" . Which will lead to a situation where you will end up assured by people that ı most probably do not refer to you .

Craig Murray's take, worthwhile as usual. Everyone keeps wondering why did the russian government decide on this radical step of invading. I was waiting to see what he said, but he too sees no good end.

Quoting the last bit in case the site is unavailable, seems to be periodically down:
I liked your link and read it. I clipped the last part of what you clipped because he seemingly puts the blame/responsibility on Europe/US to end this and save Putin. That would put Putin in a place to demand territory claims and come out as a winner. Nato did not put Putin in any position. Putin put himself there. He gave the order fully knowing he would draw the ire of the world. Putin is the one who cares not one whit about the ordinary people of Ukraine. At this point, I'd rather see Zelensky negotiate with Putin for a solution. No need for Europe or Nato to be involved. Wider involvement just makes finding the solution harder because it introduces other issues.

The NATO leadership now see Putin in a position where he either has to back down and retreat, or inflict massive casualties on the Ukraine and get bogged down there for decades. If they wanted to save the Ukrainian people, this would indeed be the time for West to negotiate. But the lives of ordinary Ukrainians mean nothing to them.

So rather than find Putin a ladder to climb down, they will strike heroic poses, wave Ukrainian flags and send more weapons. I fear Putin will go for the mass deaths scenario. Macho is his entire brand, and his speech last Sunday was worryingly fundamentalist. I do wonder if he is losing the room at home – he spoke of the end of the Soviet Union as a calamity, but Russians under forty cannot even remember the Soviet Union at all. Nobody under 50 can remember it in any kind of functioning order.

I'm not so certain that we won't get dragged into this before it is all over. The rapidity of responses and escalations is insane. Some new help is being reported every 20 minutes or so.

Right now there are unconfirmed reports that Belarus will be attacking Ukraine within 24 hours as a latest escalation. 2v1 might compel someone to even the odds.

Very scary times.

Ah, so the predictions earlier in the thread have come true, and it's all about you justifying it now. A shame.

Nobody here is batting for the Ukrainian government. People are opposing the invasion of a sovereign nation. You're not going to gotcha anyone by saying "but look at the bad things they've done". Especially when it's Russia invading. Look at the bad things they've done, maybe!

(and yes, Western nations have done a lot of bad stuff too. That doesn't excuse anything in this situation)
Red_Elk does not want to be dragged into advocating attack or explaining stance against Ukraine. I think we should respect that. Hes here for while after all.

Russia has been crippling their military infrastructure with cruise and ballistic missiles for days, and you believe it will be Russia who runs out of fuel and ammo? Interesting.
Yes, if you listen to their media everything is fine. Capitol is encircled though, as Klitchko said. It's fine like in that meme.

I like this post. :)

Ukraine files claim against Russia with International Court of Justice

From CNN’s Melissa Gray and Jennifer Z. Deaton.

Ukraine has filed an application to institute proceedings against Russia before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for a “dispute … relating to the interpretation, application and fulfillment of the 1948 Convention and Prevention of Punishment of the Crimes of Genocide,” according to an ICJ news release on the filing.

In the application, Ukraine says Russia has “falsely claimed that acts of genocide have occurred” in the separatist regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, adding Russia then subsequently declared and implemented a “special military operation” against Ukraine, the news release says.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the news on Twitter, requesting an "urgent decision" from the ICJ. Ukraine also accuses Russia of “planning acts of genocide" in the country and says Russia is “intentionally killing and inflicting serious injury on members of the Ukrainian nationality,” according to the news release.

Truth is the first casualty of war.

Guys, guys.... please stop talking about the war, please stop insulting each other and to argue. You are still playing games. You haven't looked the horror in the eyes yet. Do not add to the anger, do not encourage anything that will hurt one another, sanctions, military supplies, fighting. Either side. I don't think you've learned anything yet if you still continue to do so. Its not about points and who gets to pay for it after. Please stop playing these games. Everyone is still joking about the most horrible things imaginable.

I didn't want to make this post, but everyone has gone slightly off the important things in life. It is not about revenge even if you think that it is. Please think a little longer before you reply to my post (if you will). Your thoughts hopefully shape the universe. Please make them good ones.

Yeah. Fighting Russia directly is unlikely for anyone outside Ukraine, at least for the time being. I could see someone else attacking Belarus to neutralize them. Belarus getting involved is risky for them not because of Ukrainian existence but because of another party attacking them.

Look away when Russia fights a war of aggression? Not a chance!
