Russia says it could grant US spy asylum

Oh Socialist communist Russia #1

ATTENTION LIBERTARIANS !
Come to workers non-socialism freedom country comrades and enjoy wonderful no government regulations Paradise.

He doesn't have a choice. It's either take refuge in Russia or get prosecuted in the US. It's not like he wants to be in Russia.

Then he has a choice. He can come home and face the music like a man. He chooses to hide in Russia like the cowardly little traitor that he is (not using the word treason, using traitor.)

Some people here have clearly been blinded by their nationalism (not using the word patriotism, for a patriot seeks to better his state). Not sure what to think of people who prefer the glory of their country over the transparency. It's not as if Snowden has greatly damaged the US and strengthened states hostile to the US, what he did however is inform the masses about questionable practices by the Obama administration and to which extent it is happening. Only a lemming blindly cheers for the US.

Anyway, I don't think Snowden is safe in Russia. American agents can also work in Russia.

You just totally made that up.

You just totally made that up.

What do you mean here?

I think it's very okay to be critical of decisions the state you live in an of which you carry the nationality. Doesn't mean one has to be against the state itself. What is hard to understand here? Nothing is binary here.

For all I care it was a subjective statement from myself.

The very fact you have to respond with a vague one-liner without saying much is actually saying a lot.

Heh I like that last sentence.

I mean you totally made that line up, you could just as easily claimed that a patriot is blindly loyal to the state, while a nationalist is loyal to his nation and has no qualms at all at betraying the state if it does not represent the nation or betrays it.
In fact I would say that is a better way of putting it.

Well, that is subjective matter. I think context matters more. :p You are in a way right when looking at the etymology, in fact. A nationalist is concerned about his people (hence the word 'natio') where a patriot is more concerned about the country he lives in. However, I don't know. Loving a country is still different from loving a decision by a government.

I'm not sure how you can apply "cowardly" to "doesn't want to spend the rest of his life in jail for a reason he doesn't think is legitimate."

If the US government was trying to extradite me from Canada because they didn't like my blog posts, and I declined their offer to go to jail in America, that wouldn't make me cowardly.

Well that's all I was objecting too.

Ermm... a traitor is someone who is guilty of treason.

Or to many right-wingers, someone who disagrees with their views.

No, you have it backwards. Committing treason makes you a traitor, but that isn't exclusively what can make you one. Square and the rectangle, you see.

Ah. You are referring to the definition used when your girlfriend found out you lied to her to go out drinking with the guys.

If a woman called you a traitor under such circumstances, would you take it seriously? Or would you think she was engaging in hyperbole?

Preface: from the "CFC Banned Words 2013" thread -
Almost forgot. Need to ban traitor.
Preface: from the "Libertarians" thread -
Conversation with Northern aggressors is impossible when traitor is thrown around willy nilly.
Conclusion: this meatbag is prone to acts of hypocrisy and muddled thinking.

Celebratory remark: this is my thirty thousandth post. [party]

Dachs, your visceral hatred of the South when it comes to the War of Northern Aggression is quite clear. I've given up trying to have a reasonable discussion with you about it. Particularly considering the federal government recognizes Confederate soldiers as veterans, don't you think it's silly of you to call them traitors as the government doesn't even hold that view?

It was within the context of that war that I made those posts and you know that.

It was FMS decision (Federal Migration Services), you can continue to despise Duma.

I see. Believe it or not, I googled for 'Edward Snowden' and 'Duma' and a represenative of the Duma (Sergei Naryshkin) was explaining to the press Snowden got temporary asylum in Russia, hence I typed what I typed. :)
