Sad misconceptions in todays world!

Hell, if even we knew what caused autism, that would be a good start.

Hell, if even we knew what caused autism, that would be a good start.

It's probably just a sideeffect of the human condition.

Let me explain. Autism is not a disease - it is a list of symptoms. As such it is probably a statistical necessity, given how complex our brains are, the way they work, and how many people there are in the world.

Vaccines cause autism

which apparently is believed by way too many parents in the U.S. for some reason

I never got vaccinated for anything. I do not have autism and get ill WAY less than anyone I know. I get sick, like, once a year. Everyone else I know, at least thrice. During the school year.

on topic: anecdotes are good evidence.

Define European Armor.

If you mean the plate armor of the Late Medieval Era, it most certainly was hard to move in. If you mean chainmail, we have no argument.

The ease of motion in plate armor varied greatly with the quality of workmanship. The cheaper plate armor used by more common soldiers could be quite cumbersome, but the high quality armor custom fitted to the wealthiest of knights would have such well made lames that the limitations on the range of motions were quite negligible. They may have been heavy, but the weight was spread out enough over the body that it did not feel as heavy, and some of the weight could be carried to the ground by the armor itself rather than relying on the man's muscles.

Mail was frequently heavier, hotter, and harder to move in than plate armor. To be effective it had to be pulled rather tightly over considerable padding. Having chains fairly tight around you does not allow the same articulation as fine lames, and the padding does not allow airflow below the armor to keep one cool.

Not just the U.S IIRC i remember a british child dying from polio or some other easily preventable disease years ago because the parents refused to get him vaccinated because they thought he might catch autism...

That would of been easily preventable with a vaccination.

People like to form their own theories of why things happen and freak out despite the overwhelming evidence against these things.

Well you are lucky. Its foolish not to get vaccinated for diseases which can easily be prevented through vaccines such as measles, polio and rubella.

The Wright brothers invented the plane.

I don't really know if this is a misconception. I've always kind of considered it a misconception that they didn't invent the airplane. Samuel Langley's aerodrome wasn't really successful until after the Wright Brother's flew their plane, and though people managed to prove it could work later, there was never very good evidence other than some personal testimonials that Gutav Whitehead's flying machine managed a successful flight. Even if you consider either of these attempts as a successes, they were not really airplanes, just heavier-than-air flying devices.

Objectivists have any concept of objective reality.

Neo-cons were mugged by reality.

The USA engages in imperialism. Again, nope.

Quite true, in fact.

Some of mine:

America is a free country...nope.
Iraq had WMD's...nope.
The war in Iraq was a success...nope.
Religious people have better morals...nope.
The Democrats are liberals...nope.
The war on drugs has been a success...nope.
Islam is a religion of violent psychos...nope.

:agree: Vaccinations eradicated, in essence, small pox.

Popular misconception: anti-biotics should be taken for everything (and only for half the prescribed time). C'mon people, you're going to create superbugs to kill us all!! Take all your antibiotics, and don't take them for everything!

The USA engages in imperialism. Again, nope.

America does engage in Imperialism, it's just that you hide it with words like "bringing freedom" which assumes certain groups are not enlightened enough to gain such freedom without the white man's help.

Examples: Iraq, Aghanistan, Chile, Cuba, etc.

If your against gay marriage your're automatically a homophobe. Nope.

Some of the reasons behind it, are most definitely homophobic.

Neo-cons were mugged by reality.

Is that one wrong? I assumed that it meant that after being victims of a mugging they are to afraid to go near their attacker ever again, thus explaining why they are now so careful to avoid reality at all costs.

All Southern Europeans are lazy welfare bums that never pay taxes.

All Northern Europeans are hard working and law aligned.

"Tapas" is a meal.

I might regret asking this but what are furries? And shadow fans?

This whole America isn't free thing is kind of dumb. If you suffer some discrimination it doesn't mean you're not free. And is there really that much anti-catholic bigotry in America?

Well Rhett took Bonnie Blue to an "Episcopalian" church rather than a Catholic church and really wanted to disassociate her from her mother's catholic roots. Make of that what you will.
