Santorum Surges Up From Behind!

I LOLED at the threat title.

If I had written that title I would have received a warning or sanction for anti-Catholic religious bigotry.

OMGLOLROTHLMFAO COOOOOOOOOOOloRADO!

Someone please quick post a pick of a catcher's mitt with a fork stuck in it.

Also, I predicted in a thread earlier that Romney was too moderate to win the nomination. I was being forced to eat crow. Maybe I am right after all!

I really cant believe that all three of these states decided that Santorum was a good option. I suppose he is a great option if you want Obama to win by like 10% or more in the general election.

Also, I really really am losing faith in the republicans here. Santorum... really? The dude is a nutcake.
No, he's not. For an example of conservative ****oo, have a butchers at Tom Tancredo.

My two coppers: Santorum is too far to the right for my taste. Of course, I've been able to tolerate Obama with only minor difficulties, so I won't have a panic if Santorum becomes President.

Also, this is perhaps a naive request, but I'd really like it if candidates didn't just make.. stuff up.

Listening to their speeches has become painful. When did Obama say anything they think he said?

I can support Santorum. But this is the absolute last candidate I can. I only have a small unoccuppied space on my bumper for another sticker, right below Perry and to the right of Fred Thompson.

I sure hope no one else gets in the race, I might have buy another entire car.

And that was Obama's stimulus plan all along. :mischief:

I guess Santorum just isn't trailing on Romney's shoes any more, now he's shoving it down his throat. Although I kind of feel bad for Santorum now, because he's going to get torn up so bad by the lamestreamers and the other campaigns there might be blood. :mischief:

(Keep the puns coming!)

He is a nutcake, and he is the worst kind of nutcake who believes in small government except when it comes to your personal morality. Declares rape babies to be gifts from God, has stated support for laws against sodomy and adultery, all while crying about the creep of big government yet openly wanting its nose in your morality at every chance he can get. Just because bigger nutcakes like Tancredo exist doesnt mean that Santorum is not a nutcake. My opinion of course, but the man disturbs me in how much he seems to want his beliefs shoehorned into my life.

Well Minnesota and Missouri do have open election.

Santorum is really squeezing out to make a bigger splash in the primaries than I thought.

These states are not to terribly important as far as delegate counts go.

Most here are always complaining how there is never any true political choice in this country, I am glad to see another primary last into the late stages.

One other thing that disturbs me about this whole primary situation is how few people are actually voting in them. In a lot of the states voting so far the turnout has been below 2008, in many cases significantly. With so few people choosing the presidential candidates, effectively it's only a handful of people who are really choosing the president.

The other big news is that Newt did poorly everywhere. Badly enough so that he may no longer be the Not-Romney. If Santorum really does emerge as the next Not-Romney, he can't last in that role. We're fast running out of Not-Romneys.

How in the world does an election lasting longer have anything to do with having choices? The republicans have provided the same 4 bad choices whether you have those choices for a week or 5 months.

Santorum only surged because the established Romney machine hasn't torn into him yet.

Pretty much how this whole contest has gone. As soon as an alt Romney rises up he just uses his supreme court endorsed super PAC to crush the person in the next contest. Santorum/Gingrich have a chance in states so conservative that no amount of commercials will make them vote for Romney, but anywhere even slightly moderate he can bury them.

The bigger result for the candidates is the momentum. This will probably help Santorum raise money and win more votes in the future. Will it ne a significant help? Who knows, but some.

The wider picture, is Democratic leadership is celebrating since every day and dollar spent on this primary campaign will cost the Republicans more votes in the general election. It drives the campaign further and further to the right (Romney will risk losing if he doesn't pander), allows for more mud slinging (Newt, in particular, isn't going to quit his crusade against Mittens), and leaves more ammunition for the Democrats.

Whose super PAC will triumph in the end?

Romney's? Or Obama's?

Yeah, I don't even think Missouri awarded any delegates. Of course, the primary is all about establishing momentum and a narrative. This sweep kills Newt's and gives Santorum some actual fundraising life.

.
yeah, especially in nevada. Republican voter enthusiasm has actually gone down the longer the primaries have gone on. I expect that to change a little once its the actual general election, but a lot of folks aren't thrilled with their choice of 3 wackos and a robot.

Santorum only surged because the established Romney machine hasn't torn into him yet.

There some truth to this. Romney has yet to win a state that he couldn't carpet bomb with negative ads first though....that isn't a good sign for the "Favorite". He won't get that chance in every state going forward.

Exactly.

I'm also legitimately confused as to Santorum's appeal in the midwest. I don't get what he has that helped him run up the margins in Minnesota and Missouri so bad..
