SC02 - The Goodbye Kiss

Now ain't she sweet!

Knights with Pinch, cool. And we apparently are not surrounded by enemies.

We may not be out of the woods but I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel (Wolves, what wolves? and what was that about a "Train", what's a train?)

I won't be able to take my turns until tomorrow or Monday.

For those that haven't figured it out. Hatty is my new best friend in CIV IV, since Joanie isn't in this game. No messin' with Hatty!

nice job bugs. maybe if it looks like we're gonna lose a city, we give it to Hattie? IIRC, Hattie also gave us Mono (now that was a special memory)

OT, bugs, the CD, original or covers?

The Inca are ready to strike Huamanga with 4 macemen, 1 crossbow and 2 catapults. I hope we can hold them off:

SC02-1670AD.JPG

Turn 245 (1675 AD)
Tenochtitlan begins: Knight

The Inca didn't attack Huamanga. Their force now has one less maceman. We have 3 knights, 4 macemen and 1 catapult defending.

Our main strike force south of Ollantaytambo now consists of 9 knights, 4 macemen, 1 longbow and 6 catapults. I think we are ready to attack very soon. Plus we have more troops on the way.

During this last 45 years we were viciously attacked, but we prevailed each time. The Incans lost 2 crossbowmen, 3 musketmen and 2 catapults.

We are researching chemistry.

Time for Brother Bede to lead us to victory!

Well done Jeff! I think you have set up the monk quite nicely.

We need some culture in Huamanga or that thing is going to flip to Elizabeth.

Got it for tonight after goz10.

 gentlemen. On to victory!

Guys, I'm really sorry. I'm gonna have to back out of SG's and Civing in general for about a month. I'll be back though, and I might be able to lurk, but I've got school and family and other much more important things to focus on (read: Lent)... Civ unfortunately has dropped way down on the list.

Thanks for the great time so far guys; I'm sorry to have to do this to all of you.

--Zalson

Choose the right path, Brother Z. Will light a candle for you. You are welcome in any of my games.

Turn 245 (1675 AD)
Ica begins: Lighthouse
Huamanga begins: Theatre
No point in waiting I push the catapult and mace stack to the gates of AllieAllieinFree

Turn off research as there is little point in chasing science until I can get Huayana under control.

The Inca counter attack at AllieAllie
1675_00.jpg

Maceman loses to: Incan Musketman (5.58/9)
Maceman defeats (3.68/8): Incan Maceman
Maceman loses to: Incan Crossbowman (2.94/6)
Maceman loses to: Incan Crossbowman (0.90/6)

Huyana makes a major counter thrust at AllieAllie but the catapults survive but all the maces but one are killed.

Turn 246 (1680 AD)
His defenses are shredded though. So here goes.

1680_00.jpg

Bring the defenses down to 12 then send in the last cat to hurt all the troops. The cat dies but hurts all six remaining.

1680_01.jpg

Most of the attacking Knights withdrew so the victories were less than decisive in winning the city
1680_02.jpg

Knight defeats (0.80/10): Incan Longbowman
Knight defeats (5.80/10): Incan Musketman
Knight defeats (7.70/10): Incan Maceman
Knight defeats (5.60/10): Incan Longbowman
Knight defeats (7.00/10): Incan Horse Archer
Knight defeats (10.00/10): Incan Crossbowman

That was a less than satisfying battle. Too many troops had retreat promotions instead of strength. So now I have several wounded knights and failed to finish the garrison. Looks like it is going to be up to cats to finish this one. There are no healthy attackers at the Inca disposal however.

The Inca counter attack is feeble as a Maceman defeats (7.04/8): Incan Catapult

Meanwhile the battle at Huamanga rages on:

Maceman defeats (7.04/8): Incan Catapult
Maceman defeats (5.68/8): Incan Maceman
Knight loses to: Incan Crossbowman (2.76/6)
Maceman defeats (2.24/8): Incan Maceman
Knight loses to: Incan Maceman (3.76/8)
Maceman loses to: Incan Crossbowman (2.16/6)

But the town still holds and the attackers are decimated.

Capac comes and offers peace if I give up Huamanga and a pile of cash. Not on his tintype. I suggest he give us Allie instead. That did not meet with his approval.

Turn 247 (1685 AD)

The finishing strokes at AllieAllie
Knight defeats (6.10/10): Incan Catapult
Knight defeats (8.70/10): Incan Catapult
Catapult loses to: Incan Catapult (2.00/5)
Knight defeats (7.70/10): Incan Crossbowman
Knight defeats (7.00/10): Incan Catapult
Knight defeats (5.80/10): Incan Catapult

Pecking at the Inca at Huamanga
Knight defeats (8.30/10): Incan Maceman
Knight defeats (1.90/10): Incan Crossbowman
Maceman defeats (3.68/8): Incan Crossbowman

Turn 248 (1690 AD)

Then finish the Inca seiging Huamanga.

Maceman loses to: Incan Crossbowman (2.58/6)
Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Incan Crossbowman

Teotihuacan begins: Musketman

Turn 251 (1705 AD)
Tenochtitlan begins: Knight
Texcoco begins: Musketman
Teotihuacan finishes: Musketman

Turn 252 (1710 AD)
Teotihuacan begins: Crossbowman
Chopped down some trees so Huamanga finishes: Theatre

Moved the garrison knights, cats and some muskets into Inca territory hoping to bring him to the peace table. Pillage all around the next closest town and still he won't talk sense. The best I can get is a Cease Fire which I take so troops can regroup and we can get some happy buildings up for the next round of war. Convert the nation to Taoism as it has the greatest spread and we can use the happiness from it. That may cost us in our relationship with Lizzie, but I would like to keep Hattie happy.

Turn 253 (1715 AD)
Ollantaytambo begins: Lighthouse
New Tlateloco finishes: Taoist Temple
Pink Dot finishes: Musketman

Turn 254 (1720 AD)
New Tlateloco begins: Aqueduct
Pink Dot begins: Crossbowman
Tenochtitlan finishes: Knight
Teotihuacan finishes: Crossbowman
Ollantaytambo's borders expand

Turn 255 (1725 AD)
Tenochtitlan begins: Crossbowman
Teotihuacan begins: Crossbowman
Huamanga begins: Courthouse

With Chemistry just around the corner I have been training crossbows and giving them Combat 1 promotions. They have a better and more usable upgrade path then Muskets as Xbows can train as either Grenadiers or Rifleman while Muskets can't and don't get attacking promotions like the Xbows can.

Research was shut down while I sorted the Inca war, once it starts up again, and I would only wait for the last troops to heal in the north, I would go back after him, so be prepared to turn research down again to deal with recurring war weariness. Also keeping the culture spending at 10% helps with reducing the flip chances at Huamanga and AllieAllie.

I haven't looked at the demographics screen in a while but we seem to be out producing the Inca as his troop flow slowed to a bare trickle.

Don't stray from the war path, we need to get Capac knocked down to size (a tundra town perhaps) then turn to Lizzie. If faced with a tech choice take the one that supports war. I didn't intend an oscillating war game but that is what it will take to solve this puzzle.

yeah, I know. I wasted a lot of troops. But the cash flow is improving. We have some infrastructure. We have a shot at some great people. And women keep giving us things... hmm We got two more cities. Note to next person: end the marble deal with Hattie and build the Heroic Epic before the next round of war. Expect Louis to show up soon - he cancelled the open borders deal. left the next player an extra turn. don't think there are any gotos, but the lack of workers is hurting. I hooked some stuff up (or are about to hook stuff up) so next person will need to MM. Chemistry in 5 IIRC. My vote then goes for steel, but hey, i'm an....

I'd like some feedback from our smarter players (i.e. the rest of the team), did I really @#@ up?

This is why I hate this automatic log maker thing. No where in there does it say "Ceasefire deal executed." I also don't see where the old ceasefire stopped.

I get no feeling of what we did or why.
We are becoming quite the ladies' man. First Hattie, now Lizzy are giving us presents. BTW, I have to say I like the new improved Lizzy much better that the Civ III version.

I have it.

Pretty decent set there AdmK. I might change a few things though.

Realign the civics for one thing. Bureaucracy(productivity), Organized Religion (productivity) and Slavery (cost and to reduce alien populations) will serve us better I think than the current mix, and since we don't lose anything by changing (no anarchy) it is almost a no brainer. But that is probably my fault as that is how I left it to you, but the one thing of note is that civics only cost 30 gpt at the handoff and by adding the Inca towns to the empire it increased by almost 70%.

And I really hate the Flank and Retreat promotions for Knights. My reasoning is probably out of whack but I feel that you give up attacking strength to get them and so end up with surviving wounded units that need additional coverage, when you just might have won the battle outright. Just my pennysworth there

Then crank up the bunsen burners to high heat. There is an opportuinty to get a near monopoly on Chemistry.
