SCH0001 - Learning FFH

Got it.
I think it's soon time to start warring.. We seem to have a good flow of horsemen coming out, and the 20XP one will be lethal in the field :D.
Warfare after sanitation? We can finally boost that tech-rate with a couple cottages in the jungle ;)

Yeah warfare after Sanitation should be good. We are getting horsemen pretty fast how many do we want before we start warring? I'd say like 10 or more given how fast we are pumping them out. Suggestions on promotions: Shock and Cover then city raider all the rest, which should be up to city raider 2. It doesn't look like Tebryn has archers but I hope we will keep this horseman long enough for him to see that day. Shock is for dealing with common threats of attacking the stack and city raider is obvious.

What do we want to do after warfare as it has seemed to do us well having 3 techs set up in a line.

Nice job on killing Orthus Krick! That 20 XP horseman is nasty now. :p

I agree on Warfare first. After that, I would personally head for Trade for economic benefits and the ability to trade techs. Don't know what you guys think but trading techs (or extorting them at the point of a horseman's spear) could help us a LOT. And Trade is a prereq for Chariots as well so it's also an useful tech for warring. (other prereq is construction, which we probably want as well for war.)

Heh, 20XP. Last game, I had like 15% chance of killing him and I got 50 xp. It was sick.

Nice one taking care of Orthus... I can sleep at night now :D and now we have an uber horsie! yay! hmmm... I'm not sure what we should do with all that XP tho? I'm never very good with promotions  so I think I'll leave that open you you guys to decide!

I think after Sanitation, we should go Warfare > Trade > then possibly Writing

Why do we need writing? Trade and then construction so we can get catapults and chariots. Chariots use metal. Congratulations on killing Orthus. Don't forget to pick the axe up. Anyone else have suggestions for promotions.

Nah, yours sound good.

I'm not sold on promoting him to cover.. I'd go combat II, shock, CRII personally, he'll get more promotions as we go and can always pick up a cover promotion later on.

EDIT: Or just shock + CRIII if that's available in FfH, don't know..

CR is not a promotion line for mounted units. :(

We'll have to do with a combination of combat and counterpromotions.

See I thought you could promote mounted up CR in FfH.. Learn something new every day I guess :p
So then Combat IV and Shock? Or will we be able to get up through shock II for an amazing 80% bonus against melee?

I thought you could too but oh well, we don't have warfare so I don't think CR is available to our units anyways. If we aren't worried about archer units right now I say we go for combat 3 and then shock 2. +60% from combat and then +80% from shock should make a fearsome horseman. That should make him like a 9 +1 fire damage unit against melee guys and with the axe obviously. Oh and he can use enemy roads :) army leader much?

150 - Inherited Turn:
Check the Civilopedia to see promotion lines and discover that shock II is not available to mounted. :crazyeye:
Choose Combat IV and Shock I for the Orthuskiller. Move him into AtM.

We're among the wealthiest civs...

152:
Sanitation in so choose Warfare. Worker starts farming rice near Conrond Mor (This is +1 :) in any city with a brewery.
Also, the +1 for farms means that AtM is still growing like a weed despite that it has 3 unhappy faces.
Swap Radonnor from grass/cow to grass/hill for the extra hammer as it's capped at 5.
AtM finishes Horseman, starts another.

154:
Notice a very tiny bit of :smoke: here during my optimizing check.. Not a big deal but just something to keep in mind.

Missed out on 1 commerce here...

155:
Feiss Mabdon pops border.

156:
Bannor want OB, I see no reason to accept...
"The Bear has moved into prominence.......", would be a GA if we were Illians
Decius converts to Ashen Veil. IMO he should be our target after Tebryn Arbandi, we don't really want Hyborem cropping up any time soon

157:
Conrond Mor finishes Horseman, starts another.

158:
AtM finishes Horseman, starts another.

159:
Radonnor finishes Horseman, starts another.
We may want to consider building Public Baths all around after the war to help with our happy problem

160:
Feiss Mabdon finishes the Ranch starts worker (need a road to here...)
There are 6 horsemen in the capital, I think we can go with those and start conquering.

Roster/Save in the following post.

... or maybe even Decius before Tebryn!

We don't know exactly how strong Tebryn is (damn the lack of espionage and spies!) but from what we can see in Trinity, Decius is weak... very weak. And Tasunke can simply kill him at lightning speed because of 4 move horsemen with commando promotions. Maybe it's an idea to take the OB agreement with Decius and have a horseman scout out his cities, if he's actually that weak we only need a few turns to kill him off completely.

I presume we'll be changing civics to Military State and Conquest after teching Warfare. If we intend to keep cities instead of razing, we might consider cartography for City States.

Actually I really think getting Decius first might be better. If you look at it now, Tebryn is much larger and probably stronger than we are. Once we build up our army, we'll probably be able to take him on, but seeing as decius and tebryn are both Evil and Ashen Veil, we might see Decius declare on us. I don't want to be stuck in a long grueling war and have Decius to deal with at the same time.

Decius before Tebryn.. It's an idea.. I like the looks of Tebryn's land right now. With cotton and some other plantation resources we'd have no happy problem.
Of course, you guys make a good point that we'll likely have no problems with Decius.

Hmm, well I'm all for the war with Decius, though Tebryn has a bit of land I'd like. It'll give our units experience, and knock out a possible threat.

Okay "Got It", I can play later on today.

I feel with only six horsemen we should target decius, we would need a bit more build up if we wanted to take on tebryn. Decius has okay land too, his capital has plenty of dye plus anyone else noticed this?...

I think thats the "Guardian of the Pristin Pass" world improvement... any idea what it does? My civopedia entry for it is blank!

With regards to keeping cities, obviously we want his capital and the southern coastal city is okay, but what about trinity... it looks pretty poor to me, raze?

As for research I'll go for trade after warfare is in as discussed. Will switch to Military state & Conquest with warfare unless anyone objects.

One more thing, we have a few horsemen in production, Is it worth building a training yard in the capital so we build axemen. I just feel we'll need a few for home defense incase we get DoW'd by tebryn or are you guys just happy with spamming mounted units?

Targeting Decius sounds good, easily obtainable land for more horsemen to come out of if nothing else. Any rules on what to keep and what to raze?

The Guardian is supposed to spawn a gargoyle or 2 when a unit gets near it. I would avoid stepping on it right now as I don't think it has any other benefit than that.

I vote for cartography after Trade so we can get city states. It is a vast improvement over any of the others when it comes to maintenance costs.

I would suggest having at least one or two cities have a training yard to build axemen because Tebyrn has a good number of melee units in the one city we can see, granted most of them are warriors. He can also build his pyre zombies, unique for axemen which are supposed to blow up. I say supposed because I have never fought against them so I have never seen if it works or not.

Also do we want to keep the ashen veil religion and holy city as it increases research. Just don't research the second part of it so Hyborem doesn't pop.

Sorry about the mine, I think that might have been me. Sometimes I don't check for what would be best and didn't think about it. Will do next time.

I just had a little play aroundwith the Guardian (in a seperate game) It actually spawned x3 Str8 Gargoyles  surely Decius hasn't activated it yet otherwise he would have been wiped out! I'll make sure I avoid going anywhere near that thing.
