You have attempted to start a world war for no cause, and blatantly wish to annex our nation. Such cannot be tolerated. Italy will be unified, but not by your hand. By ours.

The Kingdom of the Two Siciles hearby declares war upon the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont.

May God have mercy on your soul.

Intrigues of the Neapolitan Kingdom

“Are you sure, John [1], that my husband will do correctly what I have asked? He is not suited for the kind of task I have set out before him, you know.” [2]
“I hope not, your majesty. All of what follows now is your idea, not mine. We must not worry about how Naples can grow. We must worry about how the French peasants can be stopped.”
“Fool. All you care about are the goals of Britain and Austria. Austria has already proven itself to be no friend of ours, by refusing to sell Tuscany. They apparently, do not believe in Italia for the Italian. And there is nothing wrong with the French peasants.” [3]
“Austria has agendas far above you, queen. We cannot begin to grasp at…”
“Silence. We will wait, and see if my husband does what must be done.”

Somewhere in the Calabria region of Naples was man who styled himself both King Ferdinando IV of Naples, and King Ferdinando III of Sicily. While he was a king, there were many happier than he in the word. Many, he thought to himself, as if to confirm the point.
Lead by a jailer, and accompanied by a single personal guard, he walked through the prison that his wife had told him to go to. If anyone else had requested what she had requested of him, Ferdinando would have had refused them, if not ordered for them to be executed on the spot.
But Ferdinando would not refuse a request made by his wife, even if he now had the sinking sensation that she was crazy.
“Is this the cell?” the king asked the jailer, who had suddenly stopped by a very particular row of bars.
“Yes, your majesty.”
“Leave me,” said the king. “When I am done, I and my guard can find our own way out.”
The jailer’s brow creased, as if he was second guessing Ferdinando’s order, but then he bowed, and walked away.
The king peered through the bars. A shadowed man sat against the far wall. He was unshackled, and his long black hair was unkempt.
“You are the one who calls himself Verità, no?” asked the king.
“Indeed I am,” said the man. His voice was strangely accented, as if he did not belong in the prison of commoners. His voice somehow seemed noble.
Ferdinando shuddered. “I am here to offer you a deal,” he said. Or rather, my wife is. If it were up to me, you would never see sunlight again.
“What is this deal?” asked the prisoner. “And before you say anything rash, be advised: I wish to kill you.”
“How can you speak to me like that?” asked the king. “I rule this land, and I can make your life far more miserable than it already is. There are things worse than a lifetime in prison.”
“You are no ruler,” said the man behind the bars. “You are a pretender to the throne of Caesar. It is those like you who keep Italy weak and without unity.”
The man behind the bars got up, and walked over to the bars, revealing his face, white, and somehow pure.
“I am here to offer you a choice,” said Ferdinando. “Be executed, or work for me.”
“That is an interesting choice,” said the prisoner. “I choose the latter. I am known for my word, and I will make any pledge you want.”
My God, thought the king, marveling at the prisoner’s change. How could my queen have known he would respond like this?
“You do not even care to know what you will be doing for me?” asked Ferdinando.
“If you want my services, you want them for only one reason,” said Verità. “You wish to restore Rome.”

[1]-John Acton, an Englishman, and advisor at the royal court.
[2]-King Ferdinando IV of Naples was heavily influenced by his wife, and was considered to be somewhat of a fool.
[3]-Queen Marie Caroline was somewhat sympathetic to the French Republican cause, at least until they killed her sister.

That story probably requires some explanation, if you read all of it. I am not intending to attempt a mad conquering spree. I merely wish the reader to know that the court of Naples has decided to retain an intelligent, if rather mad individual, who wishes to restore the glory of Rome. Verità never really existed in OTL, of course, and is merely one of those slight deviations between our world and the world of PandaNES II that occurred before 1792. Prior to that year he had no effect on the world, or even the nation of Naples, as he was captured and put in prison before he could do really anything at all. I am sure there was someone quite like him in prison in OTL, which is the only reason why I wanted to bring him into the story.

The story within the spoiler was my first NES story ever, posted in PandaNES II, which was a 1792 AD start. That NES sadly died, but my ideas, for Naples/Kingdom of Two Sicilies have not. The above story, now being transplanted to this NES, took place in 1792 in this timeline as well, and had no real effect on anything in the timeline. Verità was neutralized before he could do any harm. The story is more of an introduction for real stories to come than anything else.

But, nevertheless, Verità is back!

@Luckymoose- In case you are worried, I can assure you that I hold to my deals. Our alliance will remain. The story was only posted for my enjoyment, rather than to hint at a change in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies' allegences. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies stands ever behind Spain.

A New Italian Dawn

“Libertà.”

“Liberty?” asked the young sixteen year old Francis, heir to the crown of Naples. “Why did you say such a word?”

He and Verità were sitting together, cross-legged, on the ground of one of the royal gardens. And Verità sighed.

“Liberty is the most important thing in the world, young one,” he said.

“But you told me the most important thing in the world was the restoration of the Roman Empire,” said Francis. “You have said that many, many times.”

“The restoration of the Roman Empire is my personal goal,” said Verità. “There is a difference. I feel every person in the world should have a say in his government. I have been reading the papers of the French and American Revolutions. You should too. They would teach you something.”

“Why bother?” asked Francis. He gestured at one of the servants, who was watering the plants in the garden. “He serves me, now, but many more will serve me in the future. To be king is to have all the pleasure in the world. When my father dies, I will be able to do whatever I want. In the future, if I wish, my armies will march to the Papal States, and conquer that land. I need not concern myself with things such as liberty.” He spat the last word, as if it was a curse.

“There is a reason you mother allows me to be one of your tutors,” said Verità, “and there is a reason I wanted the job. No one else will speak to you in the manner I will.” He seemed to be talking to himself.

“What do you mean?” asked Francis.

Suddenly, Verità was on his feet, and he dragged Francis up with him. He lifted the boy off the ground, holding him by his throat.

“You must understand that to be a king is to have all the burden in the world, young one,” said Verità calmly, as Francis struggled to free himself.

The young man’s legs kicked the air. “Servant…” he wheezed, looking at the gardener. “Run. Send help.”

The gardener only glanced briefly in the prince’s direction, and then resumed watering the plants.

“That man is a member of the New Roman Society,” said Verità. “He respects my authority more than yours. But the key question here, is why.” Verità threw Francis to the ground, and look down at him, as the young man lay there.

“I’ll tell my mother about this,” said Francis, his clothes now dirtied. “She’ll send you back to the prison from where you came. No, she’ll have you executed.”

But the young man seemed to be talking only to keep himself warm. There was fear in his eyes, real fear. Francis did not even try to get up off the ground.

“The gardener is loyal to me because I stand for liberty, and I stand for unity,” said Verità. “You stand for neither. As you are, you stand for the tyranny of absolute monarchy, and you stand for those who care about nothing but themselves. You would attack the Papal States, the most holy nation in the world, simply because the notion amused you!”

“What do you care?” asked Francis. “You believe in the Roman Empire. You’re no Catholic. You probably worship Jupiter!”

Verità showed Francis a cross he wore underneath his shirt, and then returned it to its hiding place. “So few understand me,” he said. “So few.” He gazed all the more strongly at Francis. “I am no pagan. I am Catholic, as are you. But God would be ashamed of you now.”

Verità reached down, and pulled Francis to his feet. “”Things are changing, young one. Parliaments have been created in Naples, at my suggestion. True, they have no power over the king yet, but things will not remain that way for long.”

Verità continued. “I do not just stand for a new Roman Empire,” he said. “I stand for liberty, and I stand for unity. And I will teach you to walk my path. One way, or another.”

***

Elsewhere in the royal palace, in the middle of a hallway, a cry echoed through the halls. Marie Caroline, Queen of Naples, was sobbing, as she clutched a message in her hands.

“The First Republic killed my sister!” she shouted at passing servants. “To think I once trusted them!”

Suddenly, a man came to stand beside her. John Acton, Prime Minister of Naples, was there. “You must stay the course, my queen,” he whispered in her ear. “You must not attack the First Republic. We must honor our treaties.”

“Why are you saying this?” asked the queen, suspicious. “You sound like Verità, when a year ago, you were so opposed to setting him free.”

“I have changed, my queen,” said the Englishman. “Verità is no madman, and I have come to agree with his writings. Far more then you ever did. You released him to further your own power. But he has surpassed you in influence.”

Marie Caroline just stared at him.

“You must stay the course,” said Acton. He put a hand on her shoulder. “Now, let us leave this hallway. If the king learns you reacted as such to your sister’s death, he may decide to join the coalition against the First Republic. As much is unlikely, as the King listens to Verità almost as much as I, but it is never good to take unnecessary chances.”

“You are right,” said the queen, at last. She stopped shuddering. She remembered that Verità’s suggested policies had gained Naples the hearts and minds of the people of Sardinia. She dared not fail him now.

That's the second and the final ressurected story. In this timeline, shortly after the second story, Verità was thrown back in prison due to a reversal of Neopolitan politics, where he has languished for twenty-two years, even while OTL history progressed, all around him. You'll all see where I'm going with this, soon enough.

Indeed, a lesson has been learned. We agree to this proposal but this idea requires the co-operation of Prussia and Russia for this to fully function. France as well should be admitted. Without the inclusion of these powers, the treaty shall be unsuccessful and will fall into the gravehaving accomplished nothing.

We are greatly interested in purchasing Goa, your tiny Indian colony. It is of little value to you, but can be considered an asset for the United Kingdom. We wish to purchase thecity and the surrounding lands for 30 000 000 pounds (3 EP). We wish that you can reply with a decision on this matter. If the price does not suit you, we can change it to fit your needs, given you can back up your proposal.

We are sad that you are not willing to transfer the your german territories to us but we can wait for a better time. We would like to split the island of Greenland with you, under the name Fred Ø/Fred Ö (Peace Island in Danish/Swedish). We would take the North half, with Danish control over the South half. Having to co-exist on a colony is the best way to improve our relations, and a Scandinavian alliance would be equally beneficial. Together we can rule the arctic ocean, whereas seperately we would be weak.

Not playing, but I'd like to give you some info as Denmark during the Napoleonic wars was what I was tested in in my history exam.

In 1814 the nation went bankrupt and it was in no way recovered by 1815 so you might want to reduce the economy if you want it real.
Also, during the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801 the best of the fleet was lost. The remainder was stolen by the British in 1807 following the terror bombardment of Copenhagen. Most of the surviving vessels (those at sea) were destroyed in the years following. I can't remember the exact strenght, but you might want to remove their ship of the line. Sadly enough :(

I suppose the other stats can be defended, though you probably should lower the living standards. Possibly the civil leadership as well.
As a bonus, I can tell you that the king was insane and the real ruler was the Crown Prince.
