Shopping Thread .. or What Did You Buy?

A Pixel 7. I feel like I might encounter buyer's remorse from this, but I'm trying not to think about it.

What's your budget?

It was unlimited, technically. But I've never had a real flagship phone before. I'm used to slumming it with the bottom of the barrel. I didn't go with the upper echelons ($1200+) and spent around $700 instead.

I have to admit, it is a... novelty... to do things on a phone and have things happen straight away, rather than what used to happen: twiddling my thumbs for 20-30 seconds, and then making sure not to press things too quickly because it might freeze the phone. On my old phone, something as simple as loading up Duolingo was a two or three minute affair. Now, maybe five seconds. I also couldn't load up anything that played video anymore. Now, immediate and smooth.

The new phone also has significantly more storage space and far less bloatware. The old had 32 gb but more than half of that was taken up by OS and manufacturer stuff. This one has 128 gb. Granted, no SD card, but the SD card connectivity on the old phone was horrid anyway.

Were you opposed to buying an iPhone? The SE is ~$500

I'm starting a daily antihistamine and I also bought an access point to hopefully fix my internet issues. Set up the latter, so now time will tell if things are better.

I have pre-ordered a copy of Metroid Prime, and the new Zelda. I doubt ill have time for either when they arrive!

Picked up some wool fabric yesterday for my medieval tunics. Not super period fabric, but it was also available at a discount fabric warehouse for less than $15/yard, compared to the $60/yard period fabrics can go!

A like on this post reminded me to update this.

Internet problems are gone! Poof! Finally. They were driving me up the wall. Now I can attribute my failures in Warzone to personal skill and not internet instability. (Also, browsing the internet is no longer an exercise of misery, and I can more reliably host watch parties again.)

The daily antihistamine has done very little. There's some reduction of the symptoms I was hoping for it to help with, but not a "$35/mo for the rest of my life" level of reduction.

Some time ago I had problems at night with 'post-nasal drip.' It didn't bother me during the day, when I could just blow my nose once in a while, but it would disrupt my sleep. I assumed it was a mild allergy, but antihistamines didn't seem to do a thing. It turned out the nighttime mucus was a response to acid reflux that I didn't even know I had. It was so mild, there was no "heartburn" or other discomfort that you'd expect from a digestive issue. It only happened when I was lying down, which is why it never seemed to bother me during the day. But some nights, after I was horizontal for 3-4 hours, it would send my mucus membranes into overdrive and I'd get woken up at 2:00 in the morning.

Anyway, point is, sometimes trying a treatment can be diagnostic. If an antihistamine doesn't do anything, maybe it's not a histamine reaction.

Oh, it is a histamine "reaction." (I put this in quotes because it's not, like, an anaphylaxis/allergy situation.) I have MCAS and also used to be on a 4-hour-cycle antihistamine to be able to eat, as histamine is produced in the gut for digestion and is used for signaling to the brain.

I would just take that one instead, but it has a little bit of a drowsiness effect which is something I can't afford to have with the ME/CFS. It's also a pain to order online and they don't like letting me buy in bulk. (In the US, it's called Dramamine.)

There are others I can try, but I might just wait until I see my specialist in a couple months.

I have it too. Waited for it to keep getting worse before I started lifestyle changes.

I’m considering medical saline for nasal rinses (aka the smart netti pot). Apparently in the long run they clear sinuses as well as steroids, at least in measurement of “reducing need for childhood sinus area surgery”

For this year i got some better plant soil (not really sure about the english word :)) for my balcony tomatoes etc.
Curious what improvements i will see, in recent years there were some problems with small fungi showing up. Or those tiny white flies (who love hiding under leafs).

The brands are Compo and Floragard.
Fertilizer already included. Peat-free and "Bio" but yup..that word is widely spread.
I also got tired of little stones and stuff in cheap soil, the higher quality already shows with the new soil being clean.

I would call that potting compost.

Compost wouldn't normally have soil in it though so it might be different.
Bought compost would have a mix of organic waste, wood chip, peat depending on what it is.

Small stones can be beneficial for drainage and added mineral content that dissolves slowly.

Resubbed to Coursera Plus because I'm in the middle of a course on Google Cloud security; picked up coffee and a raspberry scone; purchased three new-used books (Against the Machine: Being Human in the Age of the Electronic Mob; The Lost Cities: The Forgotten Virtues of Community in America; and Humans of New York); and bought some whiskey & gin for the bar.

Frito-Lay is offering Funyun-flavored potato chips.

You needn't try them. Just buy yourself a bag of Funyuns, if you like Funyuns.

Funyun-flavored potato chips do have the flavor of Funyuns, yes. On a potato chip, though.

You do not need the flavor of Funyuns on a potato chip.

I'll let you all guess what item I may recently have purchased.
