Single Player bugs and crashes - After the 24th of February 2014

Wait a minute! I started a new game with 7762 Using SO's new Nightmare Mode Option. I had No problem with "-" income at game start and that game has advance to 4000BC.

So whatever has caused the latest version to give the reported Negative start income that DH is talking about was added in After SO's new Nightmare Option. Somewhere between 7763 and current SVN version someone Else changed a setting to screw up the start income.

What else is new about that! :p

But that still does not answer why my 7762 game did Not have this problem? Did you change WorldInfo After 7762?

JosEPh :)

7774 then reversed in 7775. I suspect now that I've explained the oversight it will go back in soon but shouldn't be affecting non-nightmare mode games.

@ TB

I added in the World Info with the GOM_options but now its crashing??

This mini may indeed be helpful. Will look into it later for ya.

Maybe go back to 7762 version since that worked.

I downloaded 7769 after Alberts2 reverted the SVN back to it. I just started a new game and that version works fine.

Just -1 at 100% science, 0 at 70%.

My units have stopped getting promotions. Look at the 2 Rogues, both ready for promotions but not able to give any.
V34 no SVN

If you don't have Unlimited XP Option checked at game set up your units will max out. That is normal. There are 2 special promotions for getting more XP than normal for Animals or Barbarians.

I mean they both have well over the XP for the next promotions, but it does not come up to choose any.

Maybe there aren't any promotions currently left the rogues are eligible for. This is especially true early in the game when not many promotions are unlocked. Screenshot would be nice.

I posted a save game. One rogue needs 1445 for next promotion and already has 1560, no promotions. The other rogue needs 2210 and already has 2505, no promotions. Even if none are available for the higher level, they should be there for the lower level one, since the higher level one got them.

Wow... that's a LOT of promos! I find it nearly unfathomable that they stayed alive long enough to get so many.

There is a major cause for variance but I do think both are likely capped out and have taken all the promos that are currently available (techs may unlock more):

Battlefield promos. When a unit gains a battlefield promo it does not level in the process and thus does not cause the unit to have to gain more xp to get the next one. One of them probably got more battlefield promos to get to this point.

There's variation between the two as in one of them took the Cautious promos while the other took the Delay promos and any step down one path denies the ability to take the other path so don't let those ones throw you as to thinking "why can't this one take THOSE promos?"

It really looks like they may well be maxed out and have taken all available promotions.

EDIT: further evaluation shows there are some differences between what they have that may be suggestive that there could actually be some odd issue afoot. It will take further code evaluation to determine what's up.

Ok, yes, the mini shows me that the replacement system isn't fully setup for world info. But the good news is that I should be capable of getting it setup for that. Only problem is it's been a LONG while since I've done that so it may be a little challenging to do at this point. But I think I can work it out. Since I've got a few things to do here I'll probably get to that on Saturday just before the release and I will be needing to download your worldinfos file to test it properly.

This is the result of that aberration I mentioned before where a unit, (the rogue) attacks at 0% chance of winning but 100% chance of retreating. It gets 9 xp for that. Even though I did not exploit it by continually attacking at those odds, it does add up. Also the destruction of roads in neutral territory gives xp, I mentioned that problem too. Neither one has taken all the terrain promos yet so those should still be available to them but are not.

What stands out to me on both screen shots is a Profound lack of AI defense against and elimination of these 2 units. No AI in any of my games would ever be allowed to get a Rogue or similar unit that heavily promoted.

The AI must Not be programmed to use Dogs and the Visibility Promo to secure their borders. Nor be weighted to seek out and destroy these type enemy units either.

And units of this type or any unit for that matter, to get that many Promos needs to be capped! This is rather absurdly unbalanced imho.

@T-Brd, now you see a perfect example of why I squawk over Promotions and there being way, way too many of them. Blatant player exploitation with no repercussions, while the AI lacks the ability to counter.

I think it would better then if you PM AIAndy and get advise from him on this since he is the person that set that stuff up.
