Single Player bugs and crashes v36 plus (SVN) - After the 24th of October 2015

The tests I've done have been vanilla C2C, latest SVN. No changes at all (not even to remove that bothersome Leviathan promo for fish which I think should not be there).

Cheers

Do you usually use the Same Civ for your Deity games? Or do you switch around?
I don't start games at Deity, usually Monarch or uh... whatever the next one up is. I forgot. I've had a starting Clubman for as long as I can remember though, across various civs. Latest is Augustus/Roman.

You should not if using the latest SVN and resetting your User setting folder plus clearing out the BtS cache file.

Starting a Play Now game taking 1 turn and then abandoning that game to start a new Custom game will also clear the cache. That way you don't have to go hunting for it (the right cache file) depending upon what OS you are using or where and when you got your copy of BtS (steam, Civ IV complete etc.).

as advised i'm posting my problem here ...

Should not the worker promotions for working in Forests also include Jungle and Bamboo and Ancient Forest?
Or if not then add Jungle and Bamboo as a separate promotion and add Ancient Forest to the normal Forest at least?

The same goes for Desert worker and Dunes and Salt Flats?

And a Wetland Worker promotion including Muddy, Lush and Wetland should exist?

Cheers

It's a clean install of SVN9265, on a computer that's never had C4 on it before. I'll see what happens with a Play Now reset later though.

I believe Dunes are on the Desert line at rank 2 and 3, and Salt Flats is on rank 3. Likewise Lush is on the Plains line at rank 2 and 3.

Here are the starts (screenshots) for 3 Deity games, 1 Augustus Rome, and 2 for Boudica Celtia. None start with a Clubman, all start with a Stone Thrower. SVN 9265.

Unfortunately a worker promotion can only apply to one terrain or terrain feature not many.

Without Size Matters on all?

Cheers

Correct no SM or any CMod Option on at all.

If you are still getting clubmen it's because of the User setting file and the cache needing cleared.

Results of the Deity game ran this evening while checking WB every 2 turns confirms that ALL AI start with the same Starting units on the 1st turn. None of the starting units for player or AI are clubmen. The results are posted in the GS thread. I will add screen shots later as I'm tired now.

No, I mean it might be in the Size Matters option that the clubman comes.
Don't get me wrong, it's not needed, the clubman, just trying to help figure out why it comes when it shouldn't.

Run a start game test without SM on. I promise it should really have nothing to do with it.

I don't know what would though. Joe might have a solid presumption about some old data somewhere but that doesn't sit well with me because it suggests there should thus be some really horrible corruptions elsewhere. It's something else I think. I don't play with the Raging Barbs option and maybe that has some kind of addon side thing going on with that option that gives a free clubman unit at gamestart?

I did a clean User Settings, clean Caveman2Cosmos with last SVN, but, ok, I'll try it.
No SM and no Raging: Still got a Clubman.
No SM and Raging Barb: Clubman.
SM and Raging: Clubman
Play Now: No Clubman and resetting all whatever that's been in there.
No SM and no Raging: Clubman again.
So Play Now did not reset whatever is doing this.
I am not the only one getting the Clubman, right?

Here are the options I am using:

Raging Barbarians
Random Personalities
No Tech Brokering
Require Complete Kills
No Revolutions
No Tech Diffusion
Start as Minor Civ
Usable Mountains
Surround and Destroy
Advanced Diplomacy
Unlimited Wonders
No Zones of Control
Advanced Economy
Realistic Culture Spread
Larger Cities without Metropolitan Administration
Realistic Corporations
Advanced Espionage
Infinite XP
No Negative Traits
Developing Leaders
Start without Positive Traits
C2C Combat Mod - Fight or Flight
C2C Combat Mod - Size Matters
Minimum City Borders
More Rivers
More Resources
Assigned Specialist XP
Teleport Hunting Awards
C2C Combat Mod - Hide and Seek
Peace among NPCs
Neanderthal Cities

Maybe it's one of those, but I don't have time to test through them all to see if one of them does ass a Clubman though logically one of them that isn't active with Play Now should as the Play Now test did not generate the Clubman.

Cheers

You're not the only one getting them but Joe and I don't soooo... and it looks like you've identified that it probably IS based on an odd game option.

The only one I could suspect in that list now would be Start as Minor Civ. Try that off and see if that makes the difference.

Side note: why anyone would play with this option is beyond me but then again, I suppose its kinda like the corporate opposite of Divine Prophets huh? : Realistic Corporations Which would be why I'm repulsed by it myself.

Cleared the user settings via Play Now, which did not have a clubman.

Started a custom game, received clubman again. Options that BlueGenie and I both have on:
Random Personalities
No Tech Brokering
No Revolutions
No Tech Diffusion
Start as Minor Civ
Usable Mountains
Unlimited Wonders
No Zones of Control
Developing Leaders
Min City Borders
More Rivers
More Resources
Assigned Specialist XP

I'll try without Minor Civ in a moment. UPDATE: Yep, looks like it's starting as Minor Civ that adds the extra clubman. A quick test without it resulted in just the starting settler and stone thrower.

I have always used Minor Civ as an option (a bit of flavor for prehistory, and a bit of time to "deal" with neighbours who are too close and/or have important ressources), but with the current tech tree the Minor/Major transition should be shifted to Negotiation IMO (almost an entire age earlier).

I agree that Negotiation would be a good tech for such transition. I always disliked how long it took in C2C.

I use "Start as Minor Civ" because I see the early tribes that have spread out as competing for the land around them without actually getting into war, and the AI with Minor Civ active doesn't really wage full scale war despite being "at war".
A player could take advantage and try to take out other civs completely I suppose, which is why a "supply line" option would be good, not being able to actually go too far so only the very closest ones could be taken out anyway.
The game also lack any way to effectively negotiate over an area not previously settled, leaving it to whomever either massed up palisades to culture claim the area (or "claimed" with later functions) or was the first to force a settler to the area.
It's always annoyed me when other nations go far from their own territory to settle right beside you, for me that's basically an act of war. With Minor Civs on at least one can fight about it without needing to have a full scale war or fight to the death.
Simply put by having troops there and trying to stop settlers from coming through, while they try to get their settler through.

Thinking about it maybe the AI should have some kind of insight into that too, and send "push back" or "push through" units along when trying to go to a "contested area", a place they go closer to others ready to fight for a resource?

Anyway, long iteration on why I use Minor Civ start, but changing the changeover to Negotiation instead of Writing probably is a good idea, it does take a little too long to get to as it is now, yes.

Cheers
