Single Player bugs and crashes v43 plus (SVN) - After January 2023

Thank you to all C2C creators!

I play and run an old version without any crashes. I cannot get SVN version to work past about 50 turns. It crashes by just existing the game, without messages or reasons.
Does anyone know if maybe having both versions on one system is the cause?
I rename the mod directory to Caveman2Cosmos and empty the BTS directory before i switch.

Great work and thank you!

Since both versions MUST exist in the same directory (not just named the same, but situated the same as well), you CAN'T have them coexist at the same time.
You can still keep switching between them, but it's tedious (needs TOTAL deletion each time, NOT overwriting) and thus prone to errors by mistake.
50 turns is a very short time, so it's clearly not a Memory thing, but rather a Files thing.
Not sure what happens, but it's clearly an internal error caused by some file-related glitch (someone builds something that glitches, and it takes around 50 turns to get there).
Did you try a fully CLEAN install - and if it still glitches, is it during YOUR turn or AI's turn?
Does it glitch again, if you go back to the last autosave and play the few turns again?
If it's consistent for each autosave (you change playing tactics, yet it still glitches), can you provide a save (or a few) for directly the turn BEFORE the glitch happens?

Dear Somebody613,

Your thinking is similar to mine, thank you for your input.
My C2C in installed outside of Program Files: Under the BTS/Mods directory i have Caveman2Cosmos and C2C-SVN directories. When i want to play SVN, i rename both, so SVN is correctly named Caveman2Cosmos, and i empty the My Documents/Civ 4 directory.

I have not tried a full clean install of C2C with only the SVN version, as uninstalling C2C cleanly and completely is itself a task,
The game always exists when I end my turn, as the running man starts (not when i move or do something). If i go back to autosave game it still crashes.

Ill try a new provide a save game this weekend.

Many Thanks
Civ fan for 20+ years,

Here is a savegame, that crashes two turns later on turn 74 - I pulled all units home and changed queue, unit orders several times, but it still crashes.

Tested.
1. Your installation is clearly bad or outdated. The save asked me to RECALCULATE, which means it's 100% not the latest SVN, which my game version now is.
2. Played (more like skipped) past Turn 100. No problems, not that I expected any after seeing (1). Try continuing from there to check whether it crashes again.
3. Reinstall the mod correctly, duuude, lol. Especially if it (predictably) asks YOU to recalculate MY save, loool.

Looks like a weird bug.
No tech is selected to be researched (unless it asked you for it NOW, and even then I'm not sure), and I think there should be numbers on them as well (not sure).
Conclusion: Bad installation, try doing again fully from scratch, and pay attention that it's located VERY PRECISELY in "...Civ4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos".
Tons of bugs are caused by NOT following that instruction, I mean it.

There's a mysterious +3 unhappiness in all of my cities (including the one in the screenshot that I built last turn) because "Large Cities Are Oppressive!" and I can't figure out where it comes from. The only thing I can think of is I currently have the Negligent I trait which is supposed to cause +1 unhappiness in every city, although it doesn't seem to be doing that. I checked through all of my civics and the rest of my leader traits and couldn't find anything that would cause it. Then of course to make things more confusing the +3 unhappiness isn't actually being counted in any of my cities for some reason. You'll notice in the screenshot the game thinks 1+3+8=9. It's not the first time I've come across sketchy arithmetic in C2C's UI, but this seems extra weird to me.

Normally in a situation like this I would hit Ctrl+Shift+T and if it doesn't resolve itself I would just assume it's a game system I don't understand fully, but in this case I'm kinda scared to do that because a lot of my cities are walking the unhappiness line and I don't want to potentially nuke my whole civ.

Easy guess for the SCREENSHOT city at least:
It's literally "oppressed by its neighbors" - it has NO WORKABLE TILES (you can see that in the city screen, and you can reclaim them by clicking on them), loool.
Not sure whether it's a real thing, but it MAY be one.
Which also adds weirdness to "not being counted" anyways, lol.
Oh, WAIT a second...
Then there's the math of buildings, lol.
(+22 -4 =15), which SHOULD be 18 instead.
Funny, but the (-3) that you complained about fits well as the "missing math" for "buildings".
So it's a UI problem, but not a math problem - everything is accounted for, just not reflected in a clear way.

I don't think that's what it is, since that city is actually working one tile in the screenshot. The city itself is buried under the list of buildings that can affect happiness. Those aren't actually buildings I've built in that city, just ones that I could potentially build.

The +3 unhappiness is in every single one of my 11 cities, even the ones that are working a bunch of tiles. In all of them it's not actually counted. I can send ten more screenshots of all my other cities but I assume I don't need to.

I realized it now.
Well, easy conclusion #2: horsehockey UI that needs huge reworking, period.

Stop making statements That the UI needs a huge rework, UNLESS U are going to do the work.
