Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

After waiting for a while to wait out any patches to roll out the bugs. Is the game worth buying now, or should I wait until the DLCs/GOTY come out?

The game was worth buying the day it came out. Yes there are bugs, but nothing game breaking. Mostly graphical glitches. Some things like game balance most likely will never be patched, but you'll have to get mods for.

According to devs balancing patches should start coming on January.

Noob question again. How do you properly dual wield a spell ? This is the only way i figured out how to do it. I usually have 2 spells ready, one in main hand, one in off-hand. If i want to dual wield sparks for example, i have to go to inventory, equip a weapon, unequip a weapon (be unarmed in main hand), go to magic menu, equip sparks (the sparks spell goes to off-hand) and equip it again (the sparks spell goes to main-hand too). Now this is a lot of pointless work to do one simple thing, also, i can't seem to dual wield most destruction spells, just frostbite, flames and sparks.

What am i doing wrong, halp.

Also, the favorite spell system sucks, it would've been much easier to have keyboard shortcuts for spells. Can you do such a thing ?

Don't you just need to left-click and right-click the spell the equip it both hands?

1. You don't have to go to inventory, you can favorite a particular weapon (or anything else) like you would a spell and click it to arm/disarm yourself.
2. You can dual wield any other kind of magic spell, and you can also learn a skill to dual-merge (or whatever you want to call it) spells for a more powerful effect.
3. I can't find info on any keyboard shortcuts, so they probably don't exist :0

You can assign stuff to hotkeys. In your *favorite menu*, hover your mouse over something and press one of the number keys (1-8).

Best way to quickly dual-wield a spell is to assign that spell to a number, and every time you want to double-wield it, double-tab that hotkey you assigned it to.

(and what SS-18 said)

What he is talking about is that for some reason the other key for equipping doesn't work, so in order to dual wield a spell, he has to equip a weapon, unequip it, then go back to spells, and double click a spell to be able to dual wield, when he just wants to have the original command (left click right click, rather than go all across the gui and then double click).

I have the same issue and have not found a solution. Favourites do not work.

I still don't really understand. Anyway you can't really assign a key to a specific hand. When you press the hotkey for a spell, different things can happen. I believe if you press the hotkey for a spell (say SPARKS) you assigned to that key things like this can happen:

1: If you are wielding a weapon in your main hand. The spell will go to your off-hand
2: If you are not wielding anything. The spell will go to your main hand?
3: If you are wielding a spell that is not sparks in your main hand. Spark will go to your off-hand
4: If you already have SPARK in your off-hand, pressing the hotkey again should put it on your main hand also, thus dual wielding it?

Someone who understands me !

This is a great way to use spells ! And double tapping hotkeys for dual wielding spells works great !

Thanks again

A heads up for PC players, theres a user made mod out that contains CPU optimizations that can improve FPS by up to 40% in intensive areas without sacrificing any graphical quality. Works great, inside Whiterun I get maybe a 25% fps increase and outside the city looking at Whiterun it almost doubles. TESV Acceleration Layer.

Made a video of a funny glitch I found today with some appropriate background music.

Doing the A Night to Remember quest after getting into a drinking contest with a guy in Winterhold. Woke up in Markath and set out on a Hangover style journey to uncover the events of the night before. Wound up in Rorikstead and had to rescue a goat that I had stolen the night before and sold to a giant. During the battle, the giant started shuffling...

If anyone is questioning wether or not they're nerds or geeks or whatever for playing Skyrim, one of my friends on Facebook, a popular girl and cheerleader, posted how she spent the last few hours looking for a perfect sapphire thing. :p

Is Skyrim worth buying and playing if you haven't played any of the previous games in the series?

Eh, don't think I'd have enough room on my computer anyway. I'll wait till I see a good sale for the 360 version. (Is the PC version much better than on the console?)

The PC version is only 6 gigs and yes, it is many times better because of the addition of mods (even though the construction kit isn't out yet there is already a huge variety of mods including ones that vastly improve the UI). More mods will keep coming out in 2012 and over the next few years to fix issues that Bethesda doesn't, improve other features, add much, much more content, improve graphics, more quests, etc etc etc.

EDIT: PC version also has more high res textures.

oh my yes. I never really got into morrowind or oblivion, but found myself enjoying skyrim quite a bit.

Personally, I did eventually get to the point where I couldn't play for more than a few hours, there was just so many quests I didn't know what to do next.

I tried the previous games (when they came out) and hated them.

Wow, had no idea people nowadays have problems with space. You should erase some of that porn.

Yea this is basically how i play now, i just clear a few dungeons and watch a few pretty landscapes. Still fun tho. :)

Finally got my own Skyrim (PC), and immensely satisfied that my computer can hit high settings with only minimal lag, and medium with none.

Going with a stereotypical wood elf archer/sneak.
