Skyrim - The Elder Scrolls V

Or you can not kill Paarthurmax, save the world and "kill" Alduin, and the Blades will think you're the most terrible person who ever lived on Tamriel.

I don't know if they changed this in later patches, but when I went through this was not a possibility.

I haven't got that far yet but I always heard people talking about it like it was a choice to either do something stupid or get the Blades pissed at you for not doing something stupid.

For those of you disappointed by the civil war stuff, I strongly recommend the Warzones mod.

I just fought a battle at Redoran Plains which may have been one of the most epic ever.

I stumbled into the Stormcloaks and Imperials going at it, I decided I was a son of the Empire and my Orc started smashing faces with his warhammer.

Suddenly a freaking dragon showed up and started tearing crap apart. Stormcloaks and Imperials were on fire, the dragon was tossing people around, it was great. As some point we stumbled into a giant camps, and then we had enraged giants stomping on Stormcloaks and Imperials alike, burning mammoths freaking the hell out, and Stormcloaks and Imperials fighting each other, the dragon, giants and mammoths.

My Orc decided to hell with the lot of em, went full beserker and smashed everything that moved with his warmhammer and then went werewolf and rampaged through the battlefield eating people's hearts and taking down giants and Imperials and Stormcloaks. When the dust finally cleared 3 dragons, 5-6 mammoths, 4 giants, and dozens of Imperials and Stormcloaks lay dead on the field. I had consumed so many hearts that I had no chance of turning back anytime soon so I just went with the flow, and went on a bloody rampage that took me all the way to Markarth before it wore off. My bounty was ungodly.

Like I said, epic. Praise Malacath and Hircine!

I should try that Warzones mod.

On the other hand, the next time I start Skyrim, I probably should delete all my (as of now incompatible) mods and only redownload the ones I need. I'm a moddaholic.

Really? I thought it was always a choice. It's unlikely it would have been put in a later patch, as later patches usually don't add in story content. I think what happened is that the way they presented the situation to you, it seemed as if killing Paarthumnax was the only choice, but in reality you could have just walked the other way and didn't do it - you just had to figure it out. I only knew to be honest because I read some online guides.

Is the 1.8 patch bugging things out for anyone? Brawl is broken, getting arrested and going to prison is broken, and my map if frozen and won't move. Goddamn Betheda, releases patches that break things. (I'll admit I have 122 mods running though so it might be that)

I'd try it, but I play a mage on the hardest difficulty so I'd run out of Magicka too fast

Apocalypse Spells and Empowered Magic will let you call down metor strikes, summon skeletal giants, and toss mammoths through the air like baseballs.

Well sure, you can just opt not to do it. But you aren't allowed to advance the main quest without killing Paarthurnax. And trust me, I tried.

Having finished the main quest twice and never killed Paarthurnax, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Yeah, I never killed Paarthunax. Didn't even get the quest to do that either, I just stopped talking to the Blades after they told me to go find the Elder Scroll.

Damn that Elder scroll. Stupid thing weighs 20 pounds. Also is there a bug in Hearthfire? I pay to build a children's bedroom in Breezehome and Proventus take money and I never get the bedroom.

And I can't build an alchemy lab either, same problem dude takes my money and never builds it. (Yes I am aware one replaces the other, but neither can be built)

Don't own Hearthfire but it's supposedly extremely buggy.

I advanced the main quest...

You basically have to go to Paarthurnax as if you're about to kill him, but then talk with him, if I remember correctly.

I don't own Hearthfire and I have the same problem with Breezehome, I can't build the alchemy lab, the dude takes the gold but it doesn't get built. Reckon it's a problem with the latest patch rather than Hearthfire, Bethesda is pretty renowned for releasing patches that break more than they fix, it's why ALL of their games have gigantic unofficial patches.

I did that. I went through every single conversation option I could. And then I looked it up online to see if there was a way to not kill him. Hell, I think I complained about it earlier in this thread.

*EDIT* I remember now. You have to kill him if you want to restore the Blades to their former glory, which I did want to do. I just found it ridiculous after you choose not to kill Paarthurnax, and he proves himself to be an all-around great guy (you know, the whole saving the world thing) the blades still insist on being ginormous douches and straight-up refuse to even talk to you if you don't do it. It just doesn't make any sense. I'm the dragonborn, I get to call the shots, god dammit.

I swear you must be missing something, something - did you look uesp.net? They're the most extensive Elder Scrolls wiki so far as I know - here's their page on the Paarthurnax quest: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Paarthurnax_(quest)

The site doens't list any potential bugs that would cause your issue. I dunno. Might be just another Bethesda bug.
