As night fell, a murder of bandits (this is an amusing pun if you happen to know that the bandit group was led by a man named Crow, but explaining it would ruin the joke) scurried around the Theater. The moon was full that night, having feasted on many glorious battles. She definitely was not following her prescribed regimen. Father Sky smiled wistfully. It was a new fad diet every month...
Perpentach was settling into his seat when it all happened. His clown retainers fell, although that in itself was not suspicious because he forced them to wear very silly shoes that they could hardly walk in. However, when this was accompanied with the appearance of a murder of bandits, the probability that something serious was happening increased at least tenfold. The king calmly stood up and turned around, meaning that he was about to miss all the action...
Meanwhile, the Ghost had taken the arena, almost entirely without people noticing. He glided in lazily, cracking a smile like a glacier. The Shaman walked on afterwards, gibbering as usual. He jabbed an attendant rather hard in the ribs, and as soon as they could his attendants left.
Reality shifted, and the contestants found themselves in the Ghost’s previous arena choice: translucent walls, floors, and ceilings. He had recently renovated, presumably to celebrate his victory over the Lich: a few chandeliers dotted the ceiling, and some beautiful ghostly rugs covered the bare floors.
The Ghost retreated into the shadows, becoming one with the wall. The Shaman sang a little ditty, snapped his fingers, and suddenly the Ghost was there in plain sight! Astounded, he tried to move through the wall to hide, but the Shaman was too quick. A deluge of water arced and hit the Ghost, causing him to become damper.
Too bad the Shaman had wasted his attack, because the Ghost hadn’t even been hit. He strangled the Shaman from behind, and his other image disappeared. The Shaman for his part summoned a crow, which pecked at the Ghost, forcing him to drop his attack.
The Shaman then whirled around and muttered an incantation. His hand glowed blue, his arm glowed red, and his eyes glowered. He pressed his palm into the Ghost’s chest with extreme prejudice. A miniature sonic boom occurred, and ghostly dust expanded from the two in concentric circles. A breeze upgraded itself to a wind and howled in the voice of banshees. Garments fluttered in the wind while a transparent vase was knocked over. The magic twisted together and entered the Ghost’s body, severing the link between his mind and his body. Meanwhile, the crow kept pecking, seeking to end his unnatural existence. A fireball opened itself up and lit the Ghost up in flames, causing the crow to seek a safer vantage point. He writhed around while the Shaman, seeking a beautiful theatrical effect, remained impassive, holding his palm out like some sort of Chinese martial artist. As time went on, the sounds got louder and louder, until a bright light formed itself and got progressively brighter, until the entire arena was bathed in white light.
The crescendo hit its climax and abruptly stopped. It took a while for everybody’s eyes to adjust back to normal - even longer, since the arena was dark and shady.
The Shaman was still holding his pose, probably wishing someone would take a photograph of him. The Ghost meanwhile was seen for what he really was - not a true ghost but a mere shell of a man. Remarkably, he was still standing. The Shaman walked over, gave him a push, and when his body hit the ground, it turned to dust.

The officials would have brought a vacuum cleaner to pick up the remainders of the Ghost, had vacuum cleaners been invented. Instead there was a slight delay as they called for magical aid in moving away the particles, and the announcement official with the parchment was again mighty frustrated as he entered the arena.
