Spl01 - Noobish Players Try the Concurrent Format

hehe. While I was typing, I just thought of that.

Spoiler :
Interesting, you got Hinduism. I decided to expand our economy. While you got Mysticism, Polytheism, Pottery, and Hunting, I got Hunting, Pottery, and Mining, with Sailing coming in 1 turn. I'm not sure how important religion is going to be however, to be quite honest. To reap its benifits, I think we would need a Great Prophet wonder, probably Stonehenge, or the Oracle. For that reason, your save looks good. Also, thanks to the goodie hut, I'm still running deficit research. However, my save has a scout and three warriors -- you have one. All in all -- do we want early religion, or early economy?

Oh yeah, my save needs to be here too...

Spoiler :
Upon looking at your save, i noticed masonry comes in 3, and then monotheism is possible. If we want a cultural victory, this is the save so far. However, I just thought that with my save, we can grab BW faster, get to slavery, upgrade our army if we find copper, and beat back the barbs. My save is also in better condition to escort that settler. However, a second religion to come seems nice... I just don't like how we keep delaying sailing... EDIT: Then again, maybe early religon could be = to early economy...

Aieeeee....now i have to rush home!! prob will play tonight and submit, but it may be short again since by the time i'll get to play, it may be late, but we'll see...

if you subscribe to this thread, you get sent spoilers! I got a message that says this:

I can't see it anywhere in the open posts, so is this one of your spoilers??

if I told you, it could be spoiling. Best way to go about subscription is that if you get an e-mail, then go here to read it.

I realized that we've blown the doors off our original schedule. Poor Autocon, strapped for time, played his turns last night and already has a 48 hour deadline?

We should probably consider extending for him. He was up front about his time issues.

We also, though, imagined teams of three. Should we put an add in the SG main thread again for more players? Should we break into 2 and 2? It'd be easier on Autocon.

Lastly, we should scale back the number of turns per round. 30 was fine to get us some variation. Looking at mine and Splime's save, we certainly have variation. How 'bout 20 (or even 15) now?

i think that if auto (or anybody else for that matter) can't make it in time for posting, just let us know. I'm sure they'll be times when i might have to skip a set, esp. since we're all doing every set.

Plus, there's also that additional grace peroid, so we actually have 72 hours.

But also, i think a repost in the Sticky thread would be helpful.

Spoiler :
My original thought was to make my turn a throw-away. I knew none of you would try for the religion, so my turn was the gamble with no real consequence. I didn't really expect to get Hinduism. Once I did, well, it just seemed fated for Judaisim, too.

I've been isolated with religions before. I had the first three and Hatty popped Christianity. She shared her island with Alex and Mao. Before I knew it they both found Christ.

My three religions, with only one shrine brought in exactly one gold per city I had founded. I sent missionary after missionary into foreign lands, but they weren't enough commerce to make the difference. I was hopelessly out-teched and killed the game around 1000 AD or so.

That start was crap, though. My island was mostly desert while the rest of the world was milk and honey.

We can still make an advantage out of the two religions, but we must hook up the stone and go for a GP wonder.

I have a sneaky suspicion, BTW, that everyone's as isolated as we are. Otherwise, we'd have heard news of wonders, religions, etc. I think.

Lastly, I still don't put much stock in strong millitary prior to archers. I know it looks like I'm playing peacenik, but warriors are just too quickly outmoded. I'll rush a warrior in the capital now that I've seen a barb warrior. (I've honestly never not hit archery before they show up.) But I'll still only build one to protect the city and another for the settler.

BTW, (This would be hidden, but is accesible from the start), I looked at the top 5 cities, and we're playing: England (Lizzy or Vicky?), Rome... (better not have iron when we meet), France I think (Napoleon or Louis?) and Persia. I know for a fact England doesn't get Mysticism, and Rome doesn't either, but the others, I'll just have to assume.

I've been considering 2 teams of two... I'll consider some more...

France and Persia don't either...you check it out from the drop-down menu of "CivIV" at the top of the forums.

We're missing two, right?

The four Splime mentioned, us, and two mysteries make 7, the norm for standard map.

Other possibilities: America, China, Germany, Greece, Japan, Mali (! - Always thought otherwise, as they ARE spiritual), Mongolia, Russia

EDIT: Oops, 2, yeah...

hey...
I saw ur missing two players, so ummm... can I join?

sure. If you want, you can join in and load up this save:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=120611&d=1143058486

Hope that works. If you don't want to, wait until next round, where it'll be you (because you haven't played yet), autocon, and a randomly chosen other. I'll add you in to the roster...

Basically, we all play the round separately, and pick the best one to continue from. Also, after this round, we'll divide into teams, and every turnset, a different team plays the save. The teams jumble up every other round.

Oh yeah, if you join in now, anything you post about the save must be in [ spoiler ] tags until either everyone writes-up their turn, or noon this Saturday. Technically though, you have until noon Sunday to post the write-up and the save.
