State of the Union - as it happens

Wow, taxmania!!!

The reasons the dems would want a one time tax cut (not the ones they state, just common sense):

1. You don't know what kind of budget problems you might face each year. Take away taxes and you have to try to raise them again when you suddenly find you want a real missile shield, or a cure for Virus X, or say just school books in all schools. Or you don't want to suddenly owe the Swiss...

2. There is absolutely no proof that tax cuts stimulate the economy. We were given tax cuts under Reagan and the economy tanked. Maybe more people will pay above the minimum balance on their credit cards.

But of course the Republicans and their backers which on this issue at this moment (there's the qualifier) include AoA have all the answers when it comes to the economy and taxation. I have seen how well Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush and Bush have done with this country's prosperity in my lifetime. You can believe whatever you like about tax on businesses being too high during the democrat's reign but economy the only 'bad' thing that happened during Clintonomics was that too many people got rich and there were too many republicans in the senate for something sensible to be done with the budget surplus (like fixing any of the systems - education, health care, superfund cleanup - that take a back-toilet seat to military expenditure).

Well, get on line for bread and get your riot stick, we are in for some fun times as we turn into a slightly more ethnically diverse Brazil...

Jolly Roger, you're assuming that I want you to pay taxes on those things, too. I don't. :D

Of course not. That is what the Democrat party refers to as "Trickle down", which supposedly is a bad thing.

What country were you living in during the Reagan years? Things got a LOT better from 1981 to 1988. In 1981 interest rates were well up into double digits and unemployment was sky high. By 1988, interest rates had dropped by a third and unemployment was down sharply, dispite a fall off in the oil business brought on by a glut of low cost oil on the market. It was the longest and strongest economic recovery of the century excepting the 1960s, after the Kennedy tax cuts.

J

PS Before anyoone says anything, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was demonstratably a supply sider, dispite the revisionist history attempted by his family.

"And this year, for the first time, we are beginning to field a defense to protect this nation from a plausible and rational hail of nuclear missiles launched through a time-bending wormhole by the Soviet Union of the 1960's....

...Nothing to date has restrained him from his nefarious undertakings: not economic sanctions, not isolation from the civilized world, not even cruise missile strikes on his military facilities. Hell- not even juicy oil deals with the Frogs and the Russians....

...And tonight I have a message for the brave and oppressed people of Iraq: Your enemy is not surrounding your country, your enemy is ruling your country. And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation as a glorious rain of consumer choices rains down upon you! Starbucks! The Gap! McDonalds! (Applause!)....

LOLOL!    so true... ;)

Man, how much science fiction was in that speech... Hydrogen cars from an oil man, Curing AIDS from a guy who thinks "condoms" are a dirty word, I like the tax reduction that will have a family of four paying $45 a year

And while the absolute baloney about clear skies and healthy forest legislation went on I kept waiting for him to get to the Iraqi business, the only thing that really lights him up and probably the only thing he was remotely telling us the truth about his intentions for. The ban on clones was fun too. Reedickulus!

Bush is one of the greatest presidents in the history of my nation. He knows alot more about politics than probally most of us ever will. I don't think the speech was funny. If you want funny, listen to a liberal. They just crack me up.

You must be Iraqi... or Afghani?

Ironcally, if used properly, cloning could be the solution to the whole Iraq mess!

Watch out, Saddam! They're coming after you!

That just further proves cloning is bad. It creates troopers for evil dictators. :p No offense to Darkshade, of course.

Why do you think I am Iraqi or Afghani?

Some of those clones are taller than others?!

I thought about that too; it kind of doesn't make sense. I am anti-cloning, I thought Bush would be pro-cloning. He could clone himself and thus avoid term limits.

I mean, when I buy my hydrogen car and fly it to an AIDS-free brothel in Africa, I want my clone getting my back.

I wonder why Bush would push for a hydrogen car in 15 years when he could impose better gas mileage standards that would be much cheaper to develop right now. And would Iraq or other outlaw regimes be allowed to buy these nukular cars?

How gullible do they think we are?

Republicans are mostly against cloning, because it is immoral.

Maybe this is a better pic:

edit: changed pic at SB's request. He has taken control of me...:borg:

Gullible enough to think that a fuel-cell powered car is actually "nukular?" :crazyeye:

I'm starting to think you need your own ABP (Anti-Ballistic Poster) shield. I haven't seen you wound this tightly in months! :)

Didn't Dick C. look like the Emporer a lot last night, grinning maniacally behind Bush?

I'm glad you showed that pic Napolean, I think a lot of how much "Star Wars" can teach us about current events... watching a divided republic collapse into an Empire united by force.

EDIT: hey you changed the picture on me- the Yoda led storm troopers was what I wanted to see...

I do agree with you on one thing, Zarn (and coming from a family of Catholic Republicans, I must say I've always appreciated your title), cloning is "immoral". Why people can't see that so is genetically modifying food, I don't know. I guess it is the old religious based barrier between human life and "everything else".

I'm proud for you and your nation. Bush is definately not one of the greatest presidents for my nation however.

Or you could just re-read what you said right there. "He knows alot more about politics than probally most of us ever will." That right there is hilarious. Where do you come up with this material?

But in all seriousness, as president of the most powerful nation in the world, you damn well better know a thing or two about politics.

Give him a break, he was eight years old when Sauron was vanquished the first time.

It's the same nation, friend. How is it hilarious, if it's true?
