stDarNES1: Stars!

ops, got you confused. though you were yellow for a second. and I never had plans to attack you, unless you attacked first.

Harpellian Hegemony(Kamilian): sorry, glich in our comunicaiton got out message re-routed. would you care to set up a trade route next turn?

@TerrisH, well if that scoutship is then proceeding onto Skyjack space then yes its movement is prohibited; we have seen your short jump capabilites, and would not appreciate a few kilograms of antimatter being tossed into one of our important assets!

On the other hand we would be willing to set up a trade route, as long as no Trinity vessel travels further than Vayim

OOC: I'm pretty sure I'm being rational here, not just provoking TerrisH for the fun of it - any teleport technology you cannot block somehow (and we can't yet) is a massive security risk in any inhabited system - a single ship can cause enormous amounts of damage, especially on a suicide run. Hells, I'd know what I'd do with that kind of technology

OOC: it's not telaportation. short jump is a misleading name. It's more akin to to the startreck warpdrive, but witha very short lifespan (it could travel about.. 5-6 light months befor burning our and beign force to be replaced) and I already have a scoutship headding deaper into your space. eap.. sent in the orders already. don't worry. It's going to leave your system next turn.

IC:
SHORT JUMP DRIVE:
Developed durrign the second Solar Civil War, it is marked as the crown achivement of Trinity Science. discovered almost acedent by a [DSFR] almost by acendent while he was expemenrtign on an Old Dominion Reactionless drive.. By indusince a resnonce pulse Via [DSFR] on teh Reactionless drives [DSFR], he managed to greate a large bubble of warped space, instead of creating a locilized space time eddie(whice is what a Reactionless drive uses to propel a ship). a second Reactionless drive can then be used to accelrate the ship aproxmantly 30,000 times faster then the reactionless drive can do so alone. unfortuantly, such speed can not be achived, due to limitations in Initiral damping system. the Drive also Produced Extream wear upon the core unit. the maximum disctance core unit could last was aproximantly 6 light months. but the advantage it offered did enable Trinity to quickly end the Second Solar Civil war, and establish contorl. which soon lead to the rediscovery of the jump gates, thus giving them a decent means of interstellar travel.

OOC: Gahh! TerrisH's stories are rivaling mine in length! I'd better crap out more stories if I want a bonus! :p

STORY POST:

Should I think it's beautiful? Should I be awed? Am I grown blasé? Firen asked himself as he stared at the viewscreen in the awakening room of the colony ship. It's been a year of outside time since they put me into cryonic sleep. I can't tell. To me, this isn't a wonder, it's just tasteful. The doctor who had been tending to Firen quietly slipped out a side door and closed it behind him.

Thirsty... Firen wanted a drink. Nothing harmful, just a shake-up to rid him of the last cryonic residues. "Where is the nearest bar?" he asked his all-meta, which communicated his request to a computer higher in the ship's hierarchy. He was answered with a map on his wrist.

The bar was subdued. The bartender refused Firen anything alcoholic or poisonous, but he was welcome to some narcotics. There were five other people present. Two were sipping at drinks, the third was blissfully leant back in a chair, the fourth was playing a game on the arcade, and the fifth approached Firen for a chat.
"Just woke up?"
"Yes."
"I got up two days ago. Decided at the beginning that I wanted a Dragon's Blood before I start working. Ever tried those?"
"No."
"Then take my advice and don't. They're murder on the immune system. The only reason I haven't stopped is that I intend to spend the rest of my life in orbit, working on turning the Old Dominion Defense Net to our purposes, and the rest of my life will be about ten years."
"The Defense Net? I heard it was almost destroyed before I left. Please tell me about it!"
"I'll tell you what I know, but be aware that I've only been awake for two days the last six months. The Rear Admiral's Cruiser rammed the control node of the Net, disabling it. They left a small team to investigate. That team has been cutting out bits and pieces for study, first for research on-site and second to send to the Sabro outpost for advanced examinations. They've found powerful, but incompatible, weapons. Not so much because they're advanced as because they're differently designed. For example, there were ion trailers the size of three Fighter ships that weren't self-contained!"
"What? You mean we could just cut the command line, or the power source, and..."
"-and it goes down! Then again, the way they packed the trailers makes them more power-efficient, joule for joule, than any of our weapons. I suppose they also fought differently in those times, and the proximity of the Net to the jumpgate probably had something to say. Anyway, even if we can't use most of the weapons, we can probably recycle a lot of the Net for raw materials or else mount parts of it wholesale on Cruisers."

story post

the shifts onboard the Lone Ranger were unbelievably long.
its been almost 18 months since thier arrival at Farrel, a planet that Soola wanted to live in when he was discharged from the navy.
it was also 18 months since thier stupid captain amnaged to make the Admiral lose his temper and order the ship to quit the fleet and head on a suicide mission.
granted, the official fleet mandate was to "explore and make contact with any human habitations out there", but sending a solitary ship on a voyage that was reputed to be well over 3 sectors away of unexplored unknown space was pushing it a bit.
what was it his fault, thought Soola, that his captain, Jah curse his quarrelsome nature, had a mouth that wont stop yapping?
why did he have to see his life be lost solely on the whim of another rude, ignorant, aristocrat?
wasnt the emperor, Jah bless his soul, supposed to keep the great republic under control, without letting interested parties make decisions that were not thiers to make?
Soola decided that moment to apply to the Propegation Program.
Informantion and rumours have arrived in the terra-mail of this program. what has caught his eye was this paragraph:
... article 13b - veterans of the Navy {veteran being a member with more than 5 years of service AND\OR a veteran of a class 3 mission, shall recieave upon return to Republican Space a plot of land {a minimum of 5 acres, maximum 50 Hectares} and ALL nessesary life support implements, on a colony {see section 4 for the definition of a colony} of his choice.
it was sort of a lucky break, considering the chances of surviving a full 5 years under such a stupid captain were rather slim, that this voyage to Braedi was considered as a CLASS 4 mission.
thats WELL above class 3, with an added element of danger, but also a much enhanced pension to the survivors.
and IF Braedi would prove to be uninhabited, as he was sure ALL of the crew were praying for, they could claim it for the republic, forming a colony and getting the support due to a far frontier settlement.
that is a MINIMUM of 1 EP per annum.
and with that - the colony would QUICKLY become a forward base for the republic.
he might even consider reenlisting in a few years, getting his own command , or starting a private business which, with the starbase that was surely going to be built there, would make him, and his family a fortune.

coming back to this painful subject, Soola remembered that if things turned out just right, he might see he family in 9 years (2 years still remaining to the voyage, 1 year to explore Braedi System, a year for any news to travel back and about 5 for his family to secure passage on a transport from Zadon to Braedi.
9 years.
that is quite a while, but if they made it, he would make sure he was well and ready to welcome his family.
9 years isnt too long if you'r eimmerssed in work. is it?
or he might be already too late, with the system already inhabited by another surviving faction.
well, nothing could be done about it right now, so Soola was going to continue his habit of, by now, countless shifts, of practicing his Raggamuffin vocal skills.

the notorious Arabian Knights SoundSystem has captivated his soul way back on Zadon, right before he enlisted.
the 6 months he has spent there, have given him unwavering belief in the Emperor and the Republic, aswell as honed his skill in singing. it has helped his secure the rank of Midshipman only into his 3rd year of the service, and a commision as Special Emissary when first contact would be made.
with this he might manage to wrangle a job even if Braedi was populated.

life could be much, much harder, thought Soola, but first we have to make it through the shift and the next 18 months or so - May Jah provide MANY BORING moments wherein.
with a relaxed and satisfies smile, Soola returned to monitoring the Starlane, keeping the mark well within the tunnel.
space traveling like that would be very easy like that.
flying in a STRAIGHT line is very effective, but also VERY BORING.
OK, time to check the scanners for any new incoming interstellar junk.
none appeared.
good, thought Soola, another boring shift will soon end.

Taken from the diaries of his Holiness, the Emperor Haile Sellassie 14th to UCCT {under the governorship of Global Nexus}
we would like to purchase the nessesary knowlege of Robotics 2 and a grant of 1 EP for Biotech 4.
we offer peace and love, aswell as ambassadorial posts?
would you care to sign a NON AGRESSION PACT?

we offer as a token of our goodwill the technologies nessesary to manufacture bigger and better starships (Construction 4).
all we want in return is an exchange of ambassadors and continued peace among humanity

Good that you pointed out that one, I didn't notice it.

To: UCCT
From: Jaenar Empire

After careful reviewing of your proposal we accept it.

if i am mistaken, my most abject apologies.
if we are both refering to this post, how about it?
i give you a freebie for a meager NAP.
call it a friendly human helping another.
or that i might, one day, if forced by events, to ask a small favour ;)
you wont refuse a tired old man one small favour, would you? :)

Yeah I agree to that. Somehow I mixed up you with the UCCT...

Mmph, this is boring... nobody to conduct diplomacy with and I can't expand any further west until I eradicate Iggy, and moving east has been delayed a great deal... Not to mention the delayed update.

I don't suppose I can rediscover a secret jumpgate from Broder to Centaus or something? :D

@Erik: At least you have the trans-Colos sector to expand too, I've got blighted planets and the galaxies largest empire hemming me in ;)

@TerrisH: if you don't see how the technology you described can be used to tremedous tactical advantage over non-equiped foes, especially on suicide strikes against planetary populations then good for you. But I can, and your not having access to Skyjack systems.

OOC: Ironically, your desire to destroy me has made this much more interesting. Not to mention the Scourge at Byblos and the Vakkrans closing in on Naqu.

oh, that, I can see. hmm

TO Skyjack: we wish to conduct servy operations if what we belive to be the capital of the Old Dominion. to do so, we need to moveour ship inward into your teritory for a short period. since you do not wish for us to use our short jump drives while in your systems, we would be willing to put our drives off line for the durration of the trip and tow the core coponents behind us, untill such timeas we exit the system, relying soely on our Reactionless drives for propulsion.

Ironic note: I was planning on starting at Ceiti, just next to your homeworld. Then I had a vision. ;)
