SW3 - we are NINJA

Here's a dotmap, since I have an available settler.

White is the closest, and has 1 BG + 1 game & a river, but doesn't have a lot going for it otherwise. It would be good for the core border.

Orange will get the iron and ivory, is on a river, and is 9 turns away.

Pink will get 1 BG, 1 fish & 1 game, but a few swamps. It blocks Korea from Westward continuous growth.

Blue will get the gems & lake, but little else.

My instinct says iron first, although I'd really like to block Wang Kwan.

Say, weren't we going to use the Japanese unit set?

My vote for white, blue then orange.

White is close, can get another city up quick. Game and a BG give the ability to get a rax up quick.

Blue is logical expansion from white plus it grabs a lux.

Orange is last. Idiots are always uncomfortable unless they have iron. having said that I think we can wait. Doesn't look like we have serious competition in that direction.

Wang can expand all he wants to the NW. Doesn't get him much except dyes if he's quick.

My $.02

I prefer to think of myself as something other than an idiot. Ultimately, I picked orange first, as white can be a quick grab with a secondary settler, and it's best to go after farther targets first. I've also added a yellow target as an alternate to white.

I'm not sure if blue is next to river. If it is not, then I say 1 SW from blue, since it won't need aqueduct. As well, that could be a great settler producer (floods and hills. If we adjust to grab the wheat also, it would be off the hook).

Blue is on the river.

I got it. Hope to play tonight.

I think that the order of settling should be blue, then down by the FP wheat, then white. The reason for this would be to expand the borders quicker, then fill in later. Any thoughts?

No arguements here. As noted above, back-filling later is a plus.

My vote is for 1 SW of blue. Get more flood plains, more hills (after borders expand), and 2 forests before borders expand. Unless we want another city around the area (which we may), I think 1 SW is better than blue.

I agree with Blue, then 1 NE of Yellow, then White.

Although, another good spot (as far as I can tell from the screenshot, anyway) is 1 NW of the wheat just a few tiles south of Blue (on the coast of the small lake). We'd get a river, Wheat FP, and a mountain (or hill, can't tell).

You lose 4 plains and a forest, and gain 4 flood plains and a hill, but you're also then built ON the flood plain & will take more disease hits. You also take one of those FP away from white, and box the wheat into a non-workable corner. To get the wheat, you found again on one of the two hills, but share FP with that city too.

I'm not hard-up on it, but want to make sure it's thought out. Thanks for making suggestions, and keeping it lively.

PS - It's a hill.

Ok, point taken. :) Like I said, I was just going by the screenshot, so it's hard to tell exactly what all those hills/mountains actually are.

I was also figuring we would change the location of the Blue dot, maybe 1 N or NE? It would then be on a hill, would still get the oasis and gems, and would have a grassland (that is what the blue dot is currently on, right? and is it a BG?) I just couldn't see a better spot that would make good use out of the Wheat FP.

I hate to do this on my first turn but I'm going to request a skip. I thought that I'd be able to play last night, but I had a 10 turn set in one of my othre games where I got to wipe out India with siphais and those 10 turns took me around 3 hours!! I didn't think that it would take me that long but there was a lot of stuff to move and strategize (Is that a word? ).

I won't be able to play until Thursday, so a switch with A-K would be fine too. Sorry for the delay..

Looks like consensus for blue then 1NE of yellow. will do.

@ RaL - please don't take offense when I speak of idiots - I'm talking about myself and nobody else. :)

Recon: Grassland SE of gems (Blue spot) is not on the river. Terrain info shows 2 food, 0 shields, 0 gold.

IT - Russia and Korea have math

1525 - buy math from Wang for 11gpt. Sell math to Mao for 89g.

nothing further of note. Note the iron is almost hooked up. There's a settler. I feel it should plant in place. Dots show potential city sites. We're at parity with Russia and Korea. We're up writing on Mongols and China. On track for Republic slingshot.

Well I can play right now if that's ok. I thought that I'd be at work but turns out I woke up with pink eye yesterday morning and I really don't want to give it to anyone so I get to stay at home and play with my daughter and goof off. Who knew that pink ey ecould be a good thing  . So I'll wait for another 4 hours and play around noon EST.

I'm guessing no trading writing around. get CoL then Phil @ max correct? Also I don't know what to do about the iron, cheap warriors but then how much does it cost for the upgrade to swordsmen?

Nice job, AK. No offense taken.

@Tubby - That plan sounds fine. Good luck with the pink eye - what a pain...
AFA the iron, I'd hook it up, as our 110g won't upgrade much. Convert the archer builds outside of Kyoto to swords. (My opinion, since we can't do an early archer rush). Follow the Kyoto archer with another settler.

T9 - 1225BCChinese warrior move to gem mountain by Kagoshima
switch Satsuma to archer due next turn
IBTChina declares war they had someone in our territory so their rep is trashed now. I hope that I can stave them off
Kagoshima is razed by elite warrior (killed our archer)
Scout2 is attacked and promotes to veteran
T10 - 12000BCSatsuma archer -> barracks
sword attacks archer near Satsuma flawlessly and promotes to elite
archer moves to cover workers near Satsuma (Barb coming in)
had to reduce sci slider to 50% (Phil due in 3) to prevent going in the red

Chinese settler pair just left Canton, next turn they should be in the open and scout1 can go after them. According to our military advisor we have a strong military compared to everyone except the Mongols and the Mongols are the only ones polite to us. Why would China decide that they could take us on when they don't have the military for it? Sorry to lose the city. :( I was in the process of moveing another defender there when I saw the Chinese warrior coming. I think that we can take them out fairly quickly though. After we disperse the barb camp in the north, we might be able to up the sci rate to get Phil a little quicker. The SoZ is due in 19.
