On Board the Remus
Asuryan had just processed the data from the Ansibyl Pearl. Orders had come in from Zavi, rendezvous with the fleet that was being built and prepare for a return jump to Minkar. They needed the computational capacity of the Corsairs to make colonisation effort affordable; they had also demanded a full report on the ships from all Officers. A complete review of the ship capabilities and possible areas where they could be improved.
Two other things had interested him, one was a Top Secret report sourced from the Genesis Projects Spectrographic Research (GP:SR) and the government Ministry of Military Intelligence (MMI); in it information on a new system was revealed; Arrakis, and the discovery (and Asuryan read this with a bit of incredulity) of Space Pirates. The Pirates ship was also called a
Corsair in their local dialect. However, it was by all accounts a serious warship outfitted with a broad spectrum of weapons. The Captain had given orders to hide from such ships; the
Remus and
Romulus had but one tool at their disposal and that was their quiet ion drives and superior computational abilities. MMI had simply said that the techies were working on an emergency solution in the case of Pirate attack.
The other thing was that MMI had been able to support the GP:SR in its conclusions of the contents of Gris. A system possessing but a single planet, a planet that was among the most inhospitable known to Asuryan. But it contained life, of a sort. Machines roamed its surface and Asuryan could not help but feel a little kinship, although he seriously wondered if any of the machines could be classified as sentient. Kations could be described as cyborgs, of man and machine. But Asuryan knew that this was limited by their surroundings [1], they were but mechanical organics. Internal systems that were mechanical were generally improvements on organic systems. The minority of systems that were not replications of organic systems could be brought on by leaps and bounds by the study of the mechanical life on this world.
He was sure Genesis techies were already poring over the data.
[1] The Kations driving purpose, adaptability to their surroundings. They believe they are better than everyone else because they have infinitely more capability to become perfect.
