Oh yeah, dis, I don't think the food production from my orbital habs takes the volatiles on Avarice into account...I'm still new to the whole habitat thing but I think that's how it works.

OOC: It does. If you get Biotech II, you would get another +1 to food production. As you don't have Biotech II, you only get 4.
Uhmm you realise that the orbital habs are around a Gas Giant and thus are affected by High Radiation (which lowers f output)?

I did know that. Still, the habitat calculator told me that I got 5f, even with no Biotech. With Biotech II it reads 6.
EDIT: There's also the question of how I can have research centers without Social I.

You need social one to develop a RC, you have no problem continuing along with the ones you have even if you lack the knowledge to apply the techniques to other fields of science.
Also the highly mechanical nature of the NES means its good if I can look at your orders and send technical critiques well before the deadline.
