When asked if you want to run as a service, yes means the client will start as soon as you boot. No means you have to manually start the client. I always run as a service.

9)If running as a service, both cores should start working on the next boot, you can also start them manually if you don't want to reboot.
You have both running as a service? I had the impression that only one could be a service hence my father's PC is only using one core as I didn't want him messing about having to start things. His PC already produces more than mine in the short time it is on, if this is true I could get it working even harder

Please confirm that you have both running as services that auto start on boot.
