When asked if you want to run as a service, yes means the client will start as soon as you boot. No means you have to manually start the client. I always run as a service.
.
8)Repeat for the 2nd folder, remembering to change the machine ID.
.
9)If running as a service, both cores should start working on the next boot, you can also start them manually if you don't want to reboot.

You have both running as a service? I had the impression that only one could be a service hence my father's PC is only using one core as I didn't want him messing about having to start things. His PC already produces more than mine in the short time it is on, if this is true I could get it working even harder

Please confirm that you have both running as services that auto start on boot.

[party] yaa, I got 100 WU done!

Good news for all us Nvidia guys. There's a beta GPU client for most higher end cards, here's a list. Looks like only 32 bit XP and Vista so far. If you have one of these cards and are willing to try the beta, it'll help out quite a bit.

Well spotted! I have an 8800GT, but unfortunately there's no Mac OS X client yet. I'll have to stick with the SMP client for now.

But we really, really need more folding capacity on the team. It looks as though Igloo Dude and Sahkuhnder are getting back into the bigger numbers, but the team is still dropping down the rankings. So it would be great to see what all those high end video cards can do apart from run Civ4.

Just joined. Hopefully I got the proper client. How would I go about optimizing for my dual core?

I'm not so worried about having to shut it off, since the most demanding game I play is Starcraft.

Welcome :wavey:

You can either run two standard clients, one in each core, or you can run a single SMP client which uses both cores, or, if you have one of the high performance graphics cards, you can try the GPU client. They are all downloadable from the same place, and there are instructions on installing them. Sorry, I don't run windows, so I can't help you with setting them up.

I'm anticipating a new workstation for me at my office (it turns out I'm currently using the slowest PC in the office, and how fair is that?) that should bump up my rate a bit more with 24/7 quad-core goodness. I'll look and see what video card I've spec'ed out (edit: it's a nVidia Quadro NVS 290), it might qualify for GPU folding (edit: so it does qualify) - does anyone know if you can run the beta SMP client and a GPU client at the same time?

Edit (from the folding FAQ): "Can I use my CPU to do calculations too?

For now, the GPU2 core uses the CPU a bit in addition to heavy use of the GPU. However, we hope to off load the calculation completely to the GPU in the future."

So that means one extra CPU per GPU per computer?

Does this require a dual-core CPU?

I've got one standard already, so I guess the path of least resistence is a second. Is there anyone that could tell me how to set it up for dual-core once it's installed?

EDIT: Yeah, I can't seem to get the console to work properly. I've got the help open, but its not accepting any commands, so I can't configure it to a different directory.

Well, my folding power is severly curtialed, my main folding computer is down, for good. R.I.P.

:salute:

I should be able to pick up the slack starting this week, my quad-core workstation is scheduled to be delivered today. [party]

Excellent! It'll be interesting to see how your 4-cores and mine compare. What clock speed will yours be running at? Mine are two dual-core Xeon, 2.66GHz

It's a Q6600, 2.4GHz on a 1066MHZ FSB with 2x4MB L2 cache, not overclocked in any way. 4GB DDR2 RAM at 667MHz.

What folding client version are you running on yours?

2 processors, 4 cores. Bus speed 1.33GHz, 4 MByte L2 cache per processor, 4 GBytes DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM @ 667 MHz. No overclocking.

I'm running the Mac OS X SMP client, which uses about 65% of my total CPU capacity. It completes a 1760 point p2605 WU in 19-20 hours. Very occasionally I get an aborted unit and a resulting glitch in my production record, but my points per day rate on that system is pretty consistent around 2100.

I also have an old PowerPC Mac running the standard single CPU client that adds a few hundred points to my total every three or four days.

I'VE GOT A LAPTOP WHICH WILL FINALLY ALLOW ME TO REJOIN THAT WHICH I STARTED!!!!

REJOICE! REJOICE!

YeaH!

Well done, Sahkuhnder :goodjob: 3 million points and counting :D

@IglooDude: Have you got that quad core system folding yet? I expected to be eating your dust by now. They've just started delivering units for project 2662 - 1920 points in 14 hours on the SMP client, so that's boosting my points rate a bit.

On the bad news front, it appears TeamCFC is losing active folders. We're down to 24 :( Let's hope it's a temporary dip for the vacation season.
