In a dutch newspaper i have read in Omaha there are tankstations who only sell oil 'not from the middle east'

Isn't this a great idea?

I... don't know if you're being sarcastic! :(

Great idea...Everybody should buy their oil from Norway! That will give us even more money that we are never going to spend! Woho!

That comment goes together with your smug looking avvie wonderfully.

I'm notorious for not letting know if i'm sarcastic, ironic or whatever.
In this case it's not clear for me either: it would really be good for worldpeace if the US would become more independent of Middle-east oil, but if this sort of actions help, and if the intentions behind it are really good .... i doubt.

Seeing as the US gets the vast majority oil from domestic sources, followed by (in order) Canada, Mexico and Venezuela, I don't see how it's such a stretch to provide terror free oil.

Im going to open a gas station across the street from the Terror Free Oil that sells Stupidity Free Oil.

Wouldn't be so hard to get oil not from the middle-east if we could delve into Alaska...

You know what I would truly love to see, just to royally freak out the environmentalists who are preventing us from tapping into so much oil in the USA? Confirmed analysis that there are oil deposits greater than all of Saudia Arabia, the North Sea, and Siberia combined...all sitting directly beneath Walden Pond.

We are. Prudhoe Bay isn't dry.

Theres already possible plans to start drilling in Bristol Bay.

ANWR isn't the only place we have oil up here.

and as I said in the other thread, they have this already

The day of conscious capitalism is upon us. 7-11 (Japan) has already booted Citgo (Venezuela) from their stations.

If a consorteum of Hess Corp(USA), Statoil (Norway), Canadian Natural Resources(Canada) and Encana(Canada) would co-brand "Non Middle East oil" they could make significant inroads into the US market. There's also the opportunity to co brand with Toyota (leader in hybrids) and ADM (ethanol) to really accelerate this process. Interesting times.

How about people walk, bike or take transit? Comes with other advantages too.

Agreed. I already do but some suburban and most country folk don't really have that option.

On the transit side New York (Orion buses from Daimler/Chrsyler) is on its way to having the largest hybrid fleet, SF already uses electrics, Boston's newest line is electric. Unfortunately, Seattle's bus fleet(New Flyer) hasn't shown particularly good results so far (hills).

Hybrid taxis in SF and NYC are going very well.

You want the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to get all that money?
