The Best Pizza

The best pizza is, by definition, pizza made in New York.
If by New York, you mean, Chicago, than yes.
You just can't compare Chicago and New York-style pizzas. In this contest everyone's a winner. They're too different to pit one against another, and everyone has their own die-hard opinion. Wars have been started over less.

We've had New Yawkers poo-poo our gobs of cheese, square slices and hidden toppings at Pequods. (btw Chicago thin is still very, very good. Eat at "Piece")

Likewise, we criticize NY's lack of cheese, general flatness and even the style of eating (it's not a Fruit Roll-up btw). To each his own, and never the twain shall meet. If you're looking for a easy to eat, fold over pizza eat it in a New York second then New York's your place.

New York could be better whether NYC deserves it or not "just because it's New Yak"....
New York rarely loses at anything strictly because it seems that everybody know things about New York more than Chicago. Just based on sheer exposure through media, movies, tv, etc. and because most critics of Chicago pizza A) had their taste buds dulled by decades of Domino's crap or B) they're atheist pinko commies that hate puppies, children, and love.

Joe's Pizza in New York. It used to be in Greenwich Village, it's in NE Manhattan now IIRC. It's also the pizza joint where Peter Parker gets fired from in Spider-Man 2. That place is vicious.

My favorite topping are pepperoni and sausage.

Hmm.... pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, black olives, pineapples, extra cheese, and maybe a small smattering peppers and onions... maybe

My favourite (home-made; when I'm out, I'll take the subset that comes closest)

Mushrooms
Bacon
Onions
Pepperoni
Fresh Tomatoes
Little Mozzarella
thin crust, of course!

My Mom makes a good barbacue chicken pizza. (Chicken, cheese, and barbacue sauce instead of tomato sauce. Good stuff) Other than that, I usually get meatlovers or pepperoni.

tomatosauce
cheese (either mozarella or goudse)

onions
red peppers
pieces of paprika
pepperoni
salami
corn (maïs)
champignon
basel (basilicum)

Or 3) You live in New York, and find it a matter of patriotism to defend the state which introduced pizza to America. :p

Highly suspect and I'll need sources on that one. :D

Pizza first made its appearance in the United States with the arrival of Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. This was certainly the case in cities with large Italian populations, such as San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, and Philadelphia where pizza was first sold on the streets of Italian neighborhoods. In late 19th century Chicago for example, pizza was introduced by a peddler who walked up and down Taylor Street with a metal washtub of pizzas on his head, crying his wares at two cents a chew. This was the traditional way pizza used to be sold in Naples, in copper cylindrical drums with false bottoms that were packed with charcoal from the oven to keep the pizzas hot. It wasn't long until small cafes and groceries began offering pizzas to their Italian-American communities.

From what I have been exposed, Chicago's pizza is better than New York's pizza, although I have never tried pizza in any of the two cities.

I recall a spanish pizza brand advertising Chicago style pizza, but not New York style pizza.

I make an awesome pizza from scratch. Topping include pepperoni, ham, mushrooms (lightly cooked in garlic beforehand) and pinapple. Sometimes I make it into a Calzone. There used to be a place not too far away from me that done fantastic calzones but it has shut down. I've been considering experimenting with a few prawns on pizza. Also pinapple is pretty tasty, I might try out whatother fruits go well. Banana might be worth an effort, it sounds disgusting but fried banana is very nice as is banana fritters so it might work.

Fine - first pizzeria.

Wiki said:
The first "official" pizzeria in America is disputable, but it is generally believed to have been founded by Gennaro Lombardi in Little Italy, Manhattan.

Hey, I forgot about homemade pizza. My brother has a delicious pizza recipe. Thick flour crust, lots of cheese, and pepperoni. :)

Spinach, pepperoni, jalapeños, mozzarella, ham.

Best pizza I've ever had was in Chicago... just spinach.

The best pizza in the world is Zachary's pizza in Oakland, CA.

That's too wierd. The best pizza place in Tucson is also named Zachary's.

@Subi - Yes, there is something pinapple is horrible with. Pizza :p

My favorite toppings : Sausage, green chile, mushroom, garlic.

Better than Magpie's?
Again two different pies I suppose and I'm more critical of a Chicago pie than a New York pie.

while I agree that pineapple tastes better raw than oven cooked on top of a pizza, I still like it on my pizza.

Same as with pineapples, I'd rather have my mushrooms cooked in a different fashion. Not that I don't like them in a pizza, just saying that I know 100s of better ways of cooking mushrooms. Same goes with black olives.
