HEY GUYS! I've been reading your posts. sounds like an intresting game. seeing as you lost your leader for a couple o days too .

Pretty cool concept. Dominate the oil supply.

wOOt! OK, UltimateGP. I'll hand the reins back to you.

After I posted last night's post, I rebooted my laptop (I always play CIV after going into a minimal startup, as my laptop isn't a power monster, and I need all the memory I can get).

VIRUS WARNINGS!

Oh pants.

It took three hours to scan my laptop clean, so I didn't play after all. I'm still within my time and will play tonight.

Driving a Benz no less.

Du bist Deutsch nichtwahr?

What is the NKVD??? (Pardon moi my lack of knowledge)

Every now and then a choice will crop up that is too big for one play to make, and since I realise I'm pretty crap at this game, I don't want to make a huge mistake early on, hence I've played 4 turns, and will await discussion from the team before playing my remaining 6.

580BC (Inherited Turn)
I'm not sure that whipping the Library in Timbuktu is necessary when it's going to be finished in four turns, so I decide to leave it. Turfan is a definite primary target as it will cut off Ning-Thingy...

565BC (Turn 1)
Sword at Olmec is fortified. Once we have a good defensive unit there, like an Axe or Archer, the Sword could probably be sent towards Timbuktu to aid in the attack of Turfan.

550BC (Turn 2)
Alphabet comes in and I click on Code Of Laws in the tech tree. Hatty asks for Writing in return for Polytheism. I don't see that we need this tech yet so decline. Hatty is also points leader, but after looking at the other Civs, they have poor trades, so I go back to Hatty and trade her Writing and Animal Husbandry for Meditation and Archery. This was a slight loss but a deal that gets us a bit closer to Code Of Laws. Hatty is now pleased with us.

Olmec comes out of revolution and starts a Library for want of something better to build.

Djenne Worker finishes the Stone Quarry and moves to a Flood Plain.

535BC (Turn 3)
Monty asks for Open Borders again and is declined. We may be able to get Hatty to war with him soon (maybe when we war with Kublai), to slow down their progress.

Djenne Worker starts a Cottage.

520BC (Turn 4)
Now it gets interesting. As it as, CoL starts this turn and will take 13 turns to research. The Oracle can be built in fifteen turns, and this will drop as soon as the Marble Quarry is finished (currently 15 turns).

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

CS Slingshot.

As it is, we can get CoL and Oracle in a reasonable number of turns, and hopefully not be beaten to either of them...however, I played around with Timbuktu and came up with this...

This is a way of prioritising a religion over CS Slingshot, however, if we use the above settings and we get CoL/Confucianism, we can them flip to production only in Timbuktu, and should be able to build The Oracle in about 7 turns.

In summary;

1 - Leave as is (CoL 13 / Oracle 15) - Free Tech = Civil Service
2 - Research only (CoL 9) - Flip To Production Only For Fast Oracle, Then CS
3 - Something else I may not have noticed.

Note that with option 2, we will also get a Great Prophet pretty soon after founding Confucianism, giving us an early shrine for income. We're generating 8 GPP instead of 2 GPP with option 2.

Over to you chaps...what do you think?

I've attached a save in case you want to have a play with the multi-management of Timbuktu.

Its like the Soviet FBI not sure if they existed after WW2. Get it though i'm a german soildier see it?

not exactly sure wats going on but a oracle slingshot not a good idea due to the 225 turns i'm seeing. Also I see we want col for the religion but we can go for another eligion later I say we rush cs.

Jesusoneez,

After looking at the game here are some ideas on how I would do it. It's just an idea and things of course would change as the game moves along.

Although by tweaking Timbuktu you can get COL to 10 turns/ and Djenne move a citizen to work sea tile + science. Once COL is near being down 1-3 turns up the production to finish Oracle and whip if necessary. (also when workboat is done have Olmec will get a small boost in science and after working marble work FP to a cottage)

I think once we get CS we can cross irrigate a few farms/with corn to get some growth and then add some scientist in Timbuktu then. This would aid GP points bring two scientist + Oracle to 10 points.

As to GP it would be nice to use him for theology by Polytheism/Monotheism/and Meditation have to be out of the way. I believe we have Meditation. Shrine won't pay off for a while as we need to spread but theology is a big jump plus we will likely get Christianity from it and another shrine down the road. Off course building National epic in Timbuktu will double the GP points.

Good luck but I would try for the CS slingshot.....It's quite powerful..

Good work, JesusOnEez. I see one problem that may not really be a problem: by assigning two Scientists to get GPP in Timbuktu, aren't we polluting the pool of points and risking not getting a Great Prophet?

You can tell by hovering over the GPP bar in the city what the odds of getting a Prophet will be. The values will change over time as more points are added. If it looks like it's not going to end up with too small a chance, I say stay on track. Note, there are 4 forested hills in Timbuktu's fat cross. GET CHOPPING! (at least two of them, then see what it looks like) If ever there was a good reason to sacrifice future health for immediate hammers, this is it.

Get it though i'm a german soildier see it?

A Grenadier from what I can tell. The B&W makes it difficult to tell as the Iron Cross isn't visible. Since Americans have converted to a German style helmut it's not always the first thing I think when I see that type of helmut. (once knew a guy named Helmut and he was German).

I am sure you know that the Panzer (new model) is still the no. 1 tank in the world. This is according to the military channel. (American station)

You sound like a patriotic German. I have great admiration for the Wehrmacht back then (not crazy about the leaders made a lot of tactical errors) and of course one of my favorites the Desert Fox General Rommel. Big fan of Patton too since they both were equally good tank generals. Not chosing sides here just interested in the abilities of each army.

You make a good point too so adding priests down the road might be better and tweak tiles for science as 1 good tile (3 coins) is equal to scientist.

A few more thoughts -- I agree mostly with Cosmichail. Where we depart is that I think a Shrine is a huge benefit and worth more over many turns remaining in this game than the beakers we'll gain in using him to research a technology.

I was in error above, there are only 3 forested hills in Timbuktu's fat-cross. It still makes sense to chop on hills if we're going to chop because we're likely going to mine them eventually anyways.

I keep forgetting this is noble not prince/monarch so shrine is better since research tends to be easier on noble. Also the Oracle usually is done a lot earlier in the higher levels so we are probably in good position for CS. On Monarch it's tough to get religion so I always use GP for theology, otherwise you are unlikely to have the opportunity to get shrine unless through conquest.
