The DLC Elimination Thread

the university specialists aren't required at all: the academy boost alone is so powerful you can do whatever you want after that, or alternatively saving that GS for bulbing rifles is probably one of the best deity domination strategies available. meritocracy for a GE for GL opens up many early possibilities plus a GS in 50 turns.

lately I've been doing an NC first, tech to Philosophy, Meritocracy->GE->Oracle for Collective Rule then REx.

Generally can be done ~turn 40-42 if you get 1 culture ruin/ally a cultural CS. (a little later if you don't)

It's a nice way to get your NC and still REx the nice locations near you early enough. +still get another GS in 50 turns. (RAs still signed ~turn 40)

And the Poly comes in 5th. :sniper:

Spoiler :
#5- Polynesia

Lost at Sea.

I learned a lot from the standard civ elimination thread. I'm not so sure about this one, not sure I trust you guys enough to use the results as a guide of which DLC to actually spend real life money on. :) Seems like more partisan voting in this thread.

Edit: Hey, what does REx mean? (Humor me, I don't get out much.)

Rapid Expansion. Basically, you spam pump settlers and take up as much land as possible.

Babylon 8
Mongolia 6
Inca 13
Denmark 14

Mongolia rocks with mounted units, and the Keshik is awesome. Denmark is overrated, played a game with them and just didn't get into it. So, yeah.

Actually, it's Rapid Early Expansion. It's a small detail, but the early part is what separates it from ICS (infinite city sprawl). Otherwise they'd be interchangeable, but this way they each define a different concept.

Anyways, resume thread. :p

I wouldn't consider REx and ICS as different depending on timing. What differentiates them is that one has a final point (REx) and the other doesn't (ICS).

Otherwise you could say, without laughing, the following:

I am planning to utilize Collective Rule to hit a REx start then follow it up with an ICS strategy. :crazyeye:

Though, you could consider Rapid Expansion and Rapid Early EXpansion as two different things. :king:

Babylon 8
Mongolia 4
Inca 14
Denmark 14

I love me some Inca! Can't get enough Terrace Farms, and the UA is awesome and really allows for a strong economy. Not paying for roads and rails is HUGE. I also like that I can stretch a bit for that extra resource if there are a few hills in between. Double hills movement is great for tile improvement and warfare. If it wasn't for that STUPID SLINGER, they'd be perfect!

Babylon 9
Mongolia 4
Inca 14
Denmark 12

Babylon's UA is just too good, you can get to steel around turn 50 with them...just ridiculous. And Denmark is nice, but Mongolia's better UU/UA and Inca's stronger economy/growth ability trump them imho.

BTW, I think that kamehameha is the best when you factor in all map types rather than just war-heavy small or standard pangea-type maps. His ability to get additional trading partners regardless of map style is an enormous advantage imho.

On bryanw1995's mention of Kamehameha, I just have to mention, if this were based on *ART,* Polynesia would be a grand slam to win (still followed IMO by the Inca). Spain may even have a chance! Babylon and Mongolia art is just "blech" (I know some people like Nebbie's green fire throne, but not me). Denmark is pretty cool, but a little too dark for my taste. It would've been cool if they could've worked a raging sea into Denmark's leaderhead!

A leaderhead elimination thread, I like it...
Just kidding, of course. But for me, the winner would be Songhai and the loser would be France.

I'd say the loser would be either france or alexander, but at least I like hearing the Alex leaderhead speak greek. I've never been a fan of how civ seems to portray Alexander (They did the best in Civ 5 but I still wish he had like a phalanx or a unit of companions in wedge formation behind him) but definitely Songhai wins that all day and Monty comes in second though.

Oh man best leaderhead for me has to be Nebuchadnezzar, no contest. Mesopotamian beards are just the most rocking things ever and that wins it for him by default, but he's also got the cool stone throne, the cool green fire, the disdainful way he throws away his cup. Plus he has easily the coolest lines of any leader.
Darius is an automatic #2 (also for the beard), then Songhai and Monty.
Worst for me is Bismarck since they didn't even give the iron chancellor a fricking pickelhaube, what the hell is that? Worst voice goes to Lizzy *shudder*. Kamehameha I dunno, I find it's just too obvious that he's a 3D dude standing on a 2D backdrop (he always looks to me like he's floating just above the ground), and also what's with the red budgie smugglers?

Arabia's pretty nice, I'd want to live there.
Oda is standing, as someone noticed on 2K Forums, on what appears to be a default windows xp background.
Ramses looks pretty nice, detailed and what you'd expect from Egypt.
Germany's adds insult to what is already the worst civ. It's boring.
England's is a bit plain, other than that the only problem with it is Elizabeth. Her voice and hand gestures are just annoying.
America's is okay, not anything exciting, the gameplay's the same. It could be a bit brighter, too.
Russia's is pretty good.
China's looks like a cheap background.
Siam's has a pretty good one, although a third of it is covered by Rammy's hat.
India's looks nice, but not what I'd choose to represent the civ, even if it represents Gandhi.
Persia's is okay, but I thought it could use improvement.

Overall, I'd say all of them are better than they were in IV.
