Atheist and agnostic people are faced with a more dire idea. Some atheists are 100% cool with the idea of losing every shred of consciousness upon death simply because they actually won't know about it (which would imply losing every shred of consciousness, so yes they would). The rest are dealt the "I really don't like it, but what can I do about it?" card.

I don't really know what happens after death, but given that nobody's ever come back to report any sort of afterlife, I gotta conclude that after you die.. you're dead.

Am I worried about it? Not really.. Everyone dies! I might be a bit afraid of the PROCESS of dying, cause that can be painful. But when I'm dead, I'm gone, I won't feel a thing.. it doesn't really scare me that much. It's just a natural part of life.

I read about all these men before me who lived some of the most awesome lives imaginable. Men who accomplished so much in their lives, men who experienced stuff the imagination of which fills me with glee!

Thus, one thing that I've come to realise is that I am much more concerned with the legacy I'll be leaving behind when I die, than it itself, and whether I'm living a life posterity would call BADASS.

At the rate at which new posts are made on internet forums, what we say here becomes increasingly more obscure and harder to find by anyone who might care. Do you remember what happened to the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones? Times a million.

I wouldn't say that. We now have huge databases of information (e.g. Wikipedia) that are accessible to a lot more people, and to which it is way easier to add information to. There are people that I can read about that I probably wouldn't have found out about pre-digital world.

I find that a lot of people care about their legacy. In the old folks home, some of them are 'trying to go with dignity', it seems. Suicidal people often try to create a positive impression in their notes. Pre-execution, some convicts try to put on a stiff upper lip, so that they'll be remembered for facing their fates. etc.

That only lasts seconds.. and you're probably far more likely to be thinking "aww crap this is it, isn't it"
