The Fifty First State

Whenever someone puts "hockey" after the name of an animal in a sentence, it's usually not a compliment.

I wonder if this is related to Al Gore's hockey stick.

Yes? Why's that, Mr N?

It's just a negative qualifier, it seems, but why the down on hockey specifically?

I presume it's just ice hockey being referred to.

When has this ever been a thing? I've only ever heard the use of hockey in that context as a derogatory term or euphamism for [excrement]

"[Animal] hockey" sounds like a compliment? :crazyeye:

As soon as Mitt Romney is elected he should initiate back channel discussions with the Israeli government to pave the way for Israel to become the 51st state of the United States of America.

This is the only way to prevent the coming Israeli-Islamist War, which threatens to engulf the entire world.

Once political union with the US is achieved, Jerusalem should be proclaimed an open city, albeit a weapons and privacy free zone for security purposes.

This will allow freedom of worship for all.

Statehood should include all occupied and disputed territories and citizenship and the full rights as enumerated in the Constitution would be bestowed upon all people dwelling there.

I would encourage everyone here to support this solution to the world's foremost security problem.

What about we just make the Kingdom of Swissland the 51st state.:rolleyes:

How about we kick the necons out of the GOP?:mischief:

And how do you propose to do that? The Republicans have 2 core constituencies. The greedy rich and the socially authoritarian. Neither group really has all that much interest in foreign policy, and so doesn't bother to learn much about it. So, in the lack of knowledge, and with authoritarian leanings, belligerence as a foreign policy plays to the ignorant.

I'm sure if the GOP kick both the Neo-Cons and Libertarians out, the GOP will have a noticable decrease in insanity, although there's still the cultural warriors and fundamentalists to contend with

The insanity in the GOP doesn't come from the Neocons. They pretty much lost their control on the party in 2006. The problem now is fundamentalists.

It's summed up well in these two quotes by Barry Goldwater.

"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them."

"When you say "radical right" today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye." - Barry Goldwater (1994)

so replace a tyrant a few miles away in the statehouse with an emperor death king a few hundred in washington dc with a lot more weapons.

obviously but with a quackers twist, he didn't have the poetry to include "emperor death king" did he? :D

I will concede that all known sentences are improved by the addition of references to Emperor Death-Kings, yes.

The Democrats do tend to have a bigger tent. I'll give you that much. Which explains why the Democrats don't always win in spite of the fact that they have a higher percentage of the population than the Republicans. They squabble among themselves more often.

And yeah, its also going to lose them the votes of people like me. I guess that's their choice.

No, keep the Libertarians.

The GOP definitely has the larger tent. It's large enough that Christian moralists and libertarians both fit in without fighting each other, which they otherwise should.
