...played this for a year when I was supposed to be programing Apple BASIC in school

How many here can blame computer games for intruding on real life????

Carry on.

(hmmmm...suprisingly, it appears that my list is going to be different from what I've seen so far - that's not to say that there are no matches, but not as many as I had expected. But since there are a lot of games, I should not have been surprised either...)

...and I am allowing list editing before the contest closes. ;) Good luck!

List editing would make me remove the matches. ;)

How about we write 15 entries? :p I have more that I've thought of in the last few days.

1.Syndicate
2.Civilization 4
3.Alpha Centauri
4.Company of Heroes
5.Warcraft 3
6.Archon (Commodore 64)
7.Diablo II
8.Simcity 1-4
9.Age of Empires II
10.Galactic Civilizations II

In order of time spent playing:

- Civ IV (mainly with Fall from Heaven II)
- Civ III (mainly with Double Your Pleasure)
- Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
- Pool of Radiance (on my C64)
- Neverwinter Nights
- Civ I
- Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans
- X-Com: UFO Defense
- Starcraft
- Archon (C64 again)
(10-game cut-off)
- Counter Strike
- Battlefield 1942
- Oblivion

Archon Rules! (Wrath blew.... need a proper revival of that game to more modern standards...)

I remember that i saw an article somewhere where they were making or probably they have already made a sequel for Archon on mobiles.....i read this article a lot of time ago but if i will find it i'll give a link

Civ4
Company of Heroes
Dawn of War trilogy
Master of Magic
Colonization!
Empire Earth
Joint Operations
Rainbow Six 3
Chess
World of Warcraft

(in no particular order)

-Civ 4 (because of FfH and WH mods.)
-Spellforce (the whole series)
-Warhammer, Mark of Chaos
-Warhammer, Dawn of War (series)
-Warcraft 3
-Heroes of Might and Magic 5
-Age of Mythology (the series)
-Warlords Battlecry 3
-Populous (really old computer game, but uses 3D graphics, excelent game play too :p)
-Diablo 2

Wizardry I (Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord!)
Star Command (kindof a Wizardry mixed with Starflight)
Civilization I (4 is awesome, but 1 was like nothing before)
Master of Magic
Angband (heavily Tolkenized Rogue-like, I still go back and play variants of this game regularly, mostly ToME)
Daggerfall (still the most open-ended rpg i've ever played)
X-Com : UFO Defense
Doom
Patrician 2
Jagged Alliance 2 (Ended my X-Com pining like FFH2 has ended my yearning for MoM)

Old games, but few games these days seem to overcome the graphics craze to concentrate on gameplay. (I think that is why mods tend to be so popular in the last 10 years or so. FFH2 would have been at the top of my list if we were listing mods)

Angband (heavily Tolkenized Rogue-like, I still go back and play variants of this game regularly, mostly ToME)
Oh yeah, I forgot about Zangband. I've spent many hours on that, as well. Probably would go in the 11th spot for me.

Jagged Alliance 2 (Ended my X-Com pining like FFH2 has ended my yearning for MoM)

Oh man yeah, love that game! Too bad it's still pretty buggy and so. Some modders have been patching it though.

Ok my list, in no particular order.
EDIT: Ok gonna try and order them since you got a bonus for that ;)

1) Final Fantasy VII
2) Metal Gear Solid
3) Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
4) Super Mario 64
5) Civilization 4 (mostly cause of FfH 2)
6) Eve Online
7) Command & Conquer 3 (series really, but this is my favorite atm)
8) Starcraft
9) Super Mario Kart
10) Jagged Alliance 2

Yeah that's probably my list, but many games could take any of these 10's place depending on my mood. And the placements of the games probably vary depending on my mood as well.

These are in rough order of how much I appreciated them at the time.

1. Golden Eye (Nintendo 64)
2. Civilization 4 (Mostly just normal Civ 4, but I did give FFH:AoI a once-through, and it was pretty sweet).
3. Panzer General 3: Scorched Earth
4. Curse of the Azure Bonds (Amiga)
5. GTA: Vice City (PS-2; they were all fun, but put the most hours into that one).
6. Champions of Krynn (Amiga; and its second-rate sequels!)
7. Lemmings (only on Amiga, not the Crap PC version)
8. Warlords (All 3 of them!)
9. Battlefield Vietnam
10.Mail-Order Monsters (C-64)

Well, there it is! about 24 years of how I didn't watch much TV yet managed to burn tons of at-best-marginally-productive time!

That ended up being a lot more fun that I thought it would be! I think #11 would have to be Golden Axe in the arcade.
