The Future of NESing

Quite honestly, volume-wise, our subforum is large enough to have a moderator of its own. I don't particularly like the idea, because I... ah... like being somewhat different?... but it may be for the best.

Das has certaintly gotten into moderator trouble. Warnings, mostly. Me too.

I suppose our slightly sarcastic and occasionaly vitriolic attitude (for me, especially towards newer players (:p)) has something to do with this. However, I can say with confidence that in our battles with storm, I never got warned :p

I don't think a surge of newer players will be good. Occasionally, we get a good player, but most of the time, a surge of new players will mean a degradation in the quality of NESing.

I have been referred to by Panda as a degradation to nesing before.

Anyone who insults newbies has clearly forgotten that he/she was once one.

I disagree. Panda posted some link showing his first attempt at NESing as "Cesar_Augustus" or some such creative spelling. He used leetspeak, for crying out loud. He has clearly embraced that past and risen above it, thereby entitling him to look down on newbs (like me :p) ;)

I would support Reno for NES Moderator '06, but thats meaningless until we see what Turner has to say.

For what it's worth, I have tried to get a NESer promoted to moderator. Not to replace CT, Padma or myself, but to help out. Thunderfall feels that at this point in time it is not needed.

And you could almost call me a semi-NESer. Sure, I don't play, and have no interest in it. However, I have taken the time to learn about y'all, and things that I would have closed/moderated as spam/off topic, I let slide now. That doesn't mean that y'all have a free reign in spamming and posting off topic (or, 'occ'...;)), but that a small (very small) amount will be tolerated. But really, OCC should not be the focus of the post, but more of an aside.

And Dreadnought (I think) is right....this isn't a chat room. I don't think y'all spam to increace PC. I don't think that PC should be removed from this forum. (I do think that PC should not be displayed, but that's a digression that doesn't really concern this post). But I do think y'all think this is a chat room. And the forums aren't. I think if y'all were to set up a chat room on IRC a lot of the spam would be cut down. There's also PMs, and IMs as well.

*gulps and waves hand timidly*

It's OOC. *runs away*

I would like to state that I am of same opinion as of Panda and North King.

I try to keep most of my diplomacy and banter to Instant Messages, and rarely take part in spamming, hence my ever even being warned by moderators. If Reno wasn't so universally popular, I wouldn't mind running for the mod position myself. (I personally wouldn't want someone who constantly reports people, that sort of behavior bothers me...)

As for the noob question, we could always implement that all popular elitist system of requiring experienced players to play as the major nations, as was a short-lived fad not too long ago.

That works, and is still being done in some NESes now, BUT it does not really give new players much chance of improvement. World superpowers should not be given to Noobs, but at the same time, they should be able to get a moderate power. (i.e. no US or Russia, but Canada or Italy)

no, never, civ3 to the end. This is where we began and by god we'll finish here. Jason argued against a move in the past and he was right. I'd also like to point out that twice in the past NES has attempted to move from CFC to other places, like Strategic Command Center and another forum AnarchyRulz and Jason the King set up in '03 or '04. Both times it didn't work out for NESing. Our home is here, in the civ3 forums.

I would just like to point out that if Thunderfall does decide to add a NESer as a moderator, there will be no public voting for it. The moderators nominate a new/replacement moderator, and we vote on it. Sometimes there are several candidates, sometimes one or two. It depends on the subforum, and the posters who we think would work out.

And before y'all start PMing mods like crazy, I already have two good candidates in mind. And no, I will not be naming them.

Noobs are not bad things.

I was a NES moderator after one month!

The undedicated ones will leave, the aggressively annoying/disrespectful ones will get Moderated out, and the good ones will remain.

Gold panning!

EDIT: Whoah, crossposts.

World superpowers should not be given to Noobs, but at the same time, they should be able to get a moderate power. (i.e. no US or Russia, but Canada or Italy)
Helloo Steven Harper! :p

Noted. I have thought about it, I just don't have the time to commit to it.

You'd have the advantage that all of us would be too afraid to double-cross or invade you, lest we incur your mod-filled wrath.

I can agree with that assessment. It actually wouldn't be too difficult of a thing to set up an IRC chatroom, actually. Or to just kind of invade the existing chatroom. I mean, that is what it's there for, right? ;)

My first order set was quite on par with the times, and I even wrote a story in my first ever NES, on the very first turn. New people can be good if they try hard enough.

I can set up one tonight using mIRC.
Also invading the civfanatics chat isnt any good, me Perfection and Fifty already invaded that place. :p
