“Not all those who wander are lost.”
Setting and General Game Info
Hello, and welcome to the universe of The Great Abyss. For all intents and purposes, this is to be considered a prequel to this game. That means when I start it back up, its history will be based on this game's. Those who posted on the original TGA can repost their species here. In Earth years, this game takes place in 1000 AD. So no humans.

In this game, you'll be leading your species to create an empire or republic (or whatever you call yourself) that spans the stars; colonizing celestial bodies, interchangeably dealing with or exploiting anomalies, inferior races, and other things of that nature on the way there. So let's get started.

The Galaxy
It goes without saying the galaxy is big, and you can start anywhere on it.
The Grid: This map will show what major systems/important celestial bodies your empires have. not ALL colonies will be shown, but instead this will depict the really important objects in space as well as how big your respective empires are. That said, anything I put up on here is assumed to be important, even if at first it appears not. I will assign each race a number of important bodies based on their application. Once assigned, you can do whatever you want to them. Everyone starts with one, their capital, which you can place on the grid.

Starting Out
I am giving everyone full creative freedom on the applications to join this game, however, there are a few base rules.
Spoiler :
  • No powergaming your application. To clarify a bit, you can have a thralling empire, but everything is give and take. Expect a hit on event rolls if you start out pretty big.
  • I reserve the right to decline your application if I believe you're not taking it seriously enough. No "BYZANTINE EMPIRE IN SPAAAAAAACE" stuff, please.
  • Like previously stated, no humans. HumanOIDS are allowed, but don't make them too human-like.
  • The galaxy is assumed to be mostly connected, so most species will know about each other. To make this realistic, I would like to ask that players keep in general proximity with each other, but you don't have to be "bordering" each other.

Everything else is assumed to be free game. However, take the time to realize that I am human too, and thus make mistakes in terms of the above statement. Recognize that I can rescind this if I spy something I don't like in an application. GM is God. It is known.

Now that that's done, actually starting out is quite simple. Here's a standard application.

Spoiler Application :
Species/Empire Name: Self explanatory.
Species Description: Physical details so we have a picture of what your species looks like.
Homeworld Details: Same as above, I just want a picture of your homeworld to have a picture of.
Species History: A history of your species from beginning of sentience to present
Starting Situation: Some details regarding how your species is at present. Is it a significantly large empire? Has it just started delving into the Abyss? Say so here.

Technological Advancement
This is just for roleplaying purposes. Use this to your heart's content, or make up your own. I ask that you do not use this to describe your technology, though.
There are 7 Tiers of civilization.
Spoiler :
  • Tier 7: Pre-Industrial: One of the most common and stable states, with limited weaponry and environmental threats. Societies tend to be small and scattered, driven by subsistence farming, foraging, or hunter-gathering needs. Technology is limited to simple hand made tools, weapons, or agrarian implements and methods, but a very broad understanding of planetary and solar mechanics is not uncommon.
  • Tier 6: Industrial Age: Often the pinnacle for a civilization. Agrarian societies can remain stable in the pre-industrial stage, but Tier 6 population strain and mechanized food production invariably create political and economic pressures very few can balance. Moving past this usually promises advancement. Some societies improve environmental and medical understanding concurrently with mechanical and transport advancement. Those that do not are frequently doomed.
  • Tier 5: Atomic Age: Usually begin focusing on clean energy production. The occasional belligerent species will use atomic energy for weapons, often resulting in mass extinctions. In-atmosphere craft are a hallmark, often leading to manned space flight, albeit in a short-scale.
  • Tier 4: Space Age: Tier 4 is often the final resting place for species intelligent enough to break free from their cradle's surface only to fill the gulf surrounding it with war. Their comfort-focused technology can include medical advances.
  • Tier 3: Space-Faring: Species has efficient space navigation, mass drivers, asynchronous linear-induction weapons, nanotechnological storage and semi-sentient AIs.
  • Tier 2: Interstellar: The species has the ability to perform exceedingly accurate space navigation, near-instantaneous communication and man-portable application of energy manipulation.
  • Tier 1: World Builders: The species has the ability to manipulate gravitational forces, create AI with full sentience, fabricate super-dense materials, perform super-accurate space navigation, the ability to create life, and the ability to create worlds.
  • Tier 0: Transsentient: Unknown
Props to you if you know where I got it from.

The Game

The game will be a mix of RNG and GM discretion. Similar to RobertCan't Imperium Offtopicum XIV. That's it. No real mechanics.

Have fun!

Species/Empire Name: Unicop AKA Sectiods AKA the Greys/ U Noh Ladzal Comunidad na u Unicop AKA The Great Joint Community of the People

Species Description: thin to chubby short, with tones of whitish grey, dark grey, copper, light violet and silvery skin tones. Large dark eyes. Weak in mussels. Craws. Collectivist psyche.

Home-world Details: Baalcah or Mots Kab, a mineral world little atmosphere and therefore cold. Archipelago, with large polar regions. The capital of the planet is Cabildo, which engulfs a small isle and parts of the coast of nearby larger one. The most powerful nations that make up the union are Keken, T’arf, Pooarseihll, Xi’inkar (although it is declining) and Luchbel.

Location: 3D

Species History: the unification of the Unicob, after a histories of intrigue, war, alliances and betrayals, came through two forces: the Baalcah Puchtun (the world fighting) and the formation of the U Noh Ladzal Comunidad na u Unicop, an attempt to avoid further bloodshed while promoting a great cause that came to unite the Unicob: SCIENCE!

Starting Situation: the Unicob, aided with their anti-gravity and robotic technologies, are keen to expand their influence but more importantly their knowledge. They have settled robotic based outposts on their neighbouring planets, while their moon have been colonised for mining.

Their past skills in infiltration is evident but the legend of abductions give a diplomatic strain.

The physical weakness of the Unicob means they must rely on their technology, including robotics, in the military applications with married of infiltration.

Their "flying saucer" space craft is a application of disk like hovercraft back on their home-world. Will the navigational abilities of the Unicob come to force?

The Great Joint Community must provail, less it decline could hinder the fragile power; the nations that make it up could take advantage of their running.

National Colour: Silver

Ship: Unicob spaceships follow a "floating disk" or "flying saucer" design for mobility and to allow them full usage of their navigation technologies. The ships tend to have a primal engines around under the center with other engines along the side in a compass pattern. The entrance is located in the under center.

Maybe.

Dang, I was gonna run with the Rozu, but in TGA they were only just becoming space-capable, so if this is a prequel they'd only just be scratching Tier 6 if I'm generous. Not that I'd mind playing @ home for most of this, but you wouldn't be hearing much from me outside the system. :p

Well this is essentially retconning TGA, so you can have them in the same situation unless you want them to appear as they are in TGA when we get there.

The Changeling Republic:
Common Name: Changeling Scientific Name: Mutator Alienis

Biology: Christened by the first alien (to them) species they encountered, the name is apt as they can change their appearance at will. This makes them masters of stealth, concealment and deception. In their default form, they are humanoid, smaller than most humans, with green skin and 6 fingers on each hand. They aren't very strong physically, however they can run like the wind.

History: On their original world of Te-Moak, they waged a war against another species, the Pauciuni. This war waged for millennia, inhibiting scientific progress, when finally a Changeling magistrate (the Changelings have always valued republicanism) proposed they try to win the war through science rather than brute force. While his name has been lost to history, the Unknown Magistrate is a hero among the Changelings. Around 2 millennia later, the first nuclear weapon was detonated in the main city of the pauciuni. This broke their resistance, and soon the pauciuni were extinct, a total and complete genocide. The Changelings then focused on science, leaping and bounding into space travel. Soon, the Te-Moak system was colonized, and the Changelings expanded into deep space (for them), soon meeting humanity and many other cities.

Culture: As mentioned, the Changelings value republicanism and representative government. However, their society is divided into a caste system, so it's not a perfect system. However, it's not organized like a normal caste system, as everyone is born into the lowest caste and they work their way up to the highest level. They have 3 levels:

Alterior: The highest level, they're aristocrats. They have 5 votes worth in elections. Entry fee into this caste is 1 million kandra (The currency of the Changeling Republic)
Freundling: The middle level, they have 3 votes in elections. Entry fee into this caste is 500,000 kandra
Slonding: The lowest and default level, they have one vote in elections.
A somewhat militaristic society, they also value scientific inquiry.

Military: The Republic has a medium-sized standing army, with significant spacefaring forces divided into various classes based on use, weaponry and defensive capabilities:

Kopis-class: Small fighters piloted by individual Changelings. Main weaponry is a directed energy beam, powered by a cold fusion reactor. Also includes homing missiles that can lock to a variety of things, such as heat and radiation.

Meson-class: The workhorse of the Changeling Republic Navy (CRN) They hold 24 Kopis-class fighters along with more powerful versions of the directed energy beam cannons. They have a small shielding capability. Armor plating is thick (about a meter), made of a alloy the recipe of which is a closely guarded state secret.

Carip-class: The capital ships of the CRN. They hold 128 Kopis-class fighters. Armor plating is thick (about 2 meters) They also have powerful shields. However there are only 2 in existence due to their prohibitive cost.

Army:
The ground forces use a combination of mass conscripts and professional soldiers. Every soldier has a standard uniform made of Kevlar, a basic ballistic launcher, and a small direct energy beam launcher (Think like a RPG) They also make extensive use of ground vehicles (Air dropped from ships) ranging from APCs to the Behemoths; massive machinations that crush anything in their path. Changelings are divided into basic units of 16 called Gyhks. Each Gyhk has an APC that the Gyhk rides in while on the move. The APC has a ballistic launcher that shoots a wide variety of ammo, from non-lethal and tranquilizing to ones filled with lethal poison or explosives.

Territory: There are 6 planets in their solar system, Te-Moak (mostly industrial with some nature preserves) and the rest ice balls or volcanic rocks. These are: Freag, Joiyk, Grag, Ewtda, and Kwug. Each of them have some research stations and massive mining colonies. They supply the CRN with all the metal needed for their ships. They have sent some probes outside their system to find more areas for expansion

Advantages: Masters of Espionage, organized society, lots of willing recruits

Disadvantages: Weak individually, relatively small military (quality over quantity) small land (not expanded past their solar system), only Tier 4

Wow that was a long post.
Also the tier list is from Halo.
Starting Situation: Tier 3, has some Tier 2 tech (Specifically the comms tech)
Location: I2, P2

The Ascendency:

pWYsNAs.png

Location: X-Axis: N4 Y-Axis: M9

Colour: UN Blue (RGB: 75/146/219)

System Name: Byz System

Species Name: Collectively the species of the ascendency are called the Aiin. However, they distinguish themselves into three sub-species

The Organics: The Organics are humanoid beings that look very similar to humans, the largest noticeable external difference is how their pupil and iris is a monochrome very light grey, to the untrained eye it appears that their eye is completely dominated by the sclera (the white part). The Organics live in a pre-industrial agrarian society, similar to the Amish cultures of Earth. The only reason that the Organics have left their home planet is because of their relationship with the Ascended, otherwise they would have never been able to produce the technology.

The Ascended: The Ascended are Aiin who have conquered death itself with advanced technology. They have the ability to upload their minds into a vast computer network called the Network, it is similar to the internet but much bigger and much more advanced. If an Ascended’s body is destroyed then they may download a copy of their mind into a new body. The appearance of the Ascended is varied, some members of the Ascended have only made the bare minimum of alterations to their bodies, whereas others have replaced their entire body with cybernetics. Some Ascended have even forgone permanent bodies altogether, preferring to spend their free time within the Network. This has produced a very unique society, although some members of the Ascended describe their society as utopic they have some serious problems within their society which may effect their competitiveness within the new frontier.

The Artificial: The Artificial are beings of full Artificial Intelligence, they are probably the most advanced AI in the universe. They were created by the Ascended and their predecessors to run computer systems, but shortly after the Ascension they were recognized as equals. Due to the exact nature of the Ascended’s technology, the creation of new Artificial Intelligence is rarely needed and is only done in the most extreme circumstances. The Artificial are very different from the Ascended due to their technological origins rather than biological ones. Many of the Artificial spend their spare time within in the Network, they rarely have permanent biological or even technological bodies.

Homeworld Description: The Byz System is the Ascendency’s home system. It has three planets, Impra, Gewel and Jiane. Impra the homeworld of the Aiin, it where they evolved. Impra has a similar climate to Earth, however almost all of the land of Impra is all in one continent, with ocean covering the rest. Impra has only recently recovered from the Purge, the planet taking centuries to recover from the nuclear damage that had been inflicted upon it. The Aiin are having trouble finding more space to live in this planet, the Organics are occupying most of the available farm land, which is causing global tension and is one of the reasons for their expansion into the rest of the universe.

The only city on Impra is Ascension City, it is the capital of Impra and the whole of the Ascendency. It houses almost all the Ascended, almost 100 million people. Because of its sheer population, it covers more land and has a higher density than any of the cities on Earth. Despite this, citizens living within it feel that it has an amazing charm and atmosphere that maintains the wonder of this techno-utopic city and prevents it from becoming a bland hellhole.

Ascension City is separated into four regions, the Core, the Factory Belt, the Inner Region and the Outer Region. The Core is the area of Ascension City that was built before the Ascension. It contains the towering domed skyscrapers that tower over the rest of Impra and give the city it’s grand stature, the tallest of which extends past Impa’s atmosphere. Although a majority of these skyscrapers are used solely for accommodation, data storage and workplaces, many hide grand parks and other recreational facilities that would never be found within human buildings.

The Factory Belt contains a majority of the factories within Ascension City. As the citizens of Ascension City realised that the outside world could not be relied on for their industry anymore due to their instability, the Factory Belt was constructed to provide for the needs of the citizens of Ascension City. Due to rapid post-Ascension technological advancement, the factory has not needed to expand very little despite a slow but steady increase in population and demand.

The Inner Region is the area of Ascension City that was built to accommodate the refugees that fled from the oppression of the religious fanatics. The buildings inside the Inner Region are notably smaller than the buildings of the Core and the Factory Belt, although they still rival the skyscrapers of Earth. For all intents and purposes, the Inner Region is a miniature version of the Core, with smaller buildings.

The Outer Region is the most unique part of Ascension City. It covers all the expansion that Ascension City went through after the Second Great Ascension. The Outer Region contains buildings similar to that of the Inner Region, buildings that were adapted from towns that were incorporated by Ascension City and the Border Markets, which gives the Outer Region a really unique texture. The Outer Region continues to expand, pushing the Border Markets further away from Ascension City and consuming towns of the Organics that have either moved on or Ascended themselves.

The Organics themselves do not have any major cities, as their lifestyle lends itself to having small agricultural communities and villages. An Organics village rarely has over 300 people within it, as the Organics encourage their children to found new villages and communities when the town gets too large. This has caused problems within their society due to overpopulation.

The only other cities of note are the ruins of the large cities of the pre-Ascension era. They are populated by small but dedicated teams of Ascended that try to maintain what they consider important relics of their history. They try and save it from Organics desperate for new towns and the ever expanding Ascension City, an uphill battle if there ever was one.

The other planets in the Byz System are not nearly as important or interesting as Impra. Gewel is a barren planet that has a large mining operation and supplies almost all of the minerals needed by the Ascendency. Jiane is a large Gas Giant, boasting a small space station that hosts scientists and tourists. The Byz Star has a light blue colour, one that has been incorporated into many of the flags of the Aiin, including the current one.

Species History:

Before the Ascension, the history of the Aiin was fairly stock standard as far as species go. They muddled through the first three tiers of technological advancements as many nations would, with their fare share of grand achievements and horrifying atrocities.

When they were on the cusp of the Space Age, their society was in a similar state to 21st Century Earth, divided into various nation states of varied technological and economic power with large corporations looming over the world and exerting an absurd amount of influence. Zaynth Niktop was born into this world, he was a heir to the CEO of the largest international corporation on the planet which specialized in medical technology. Zaynth’s life may have followed many of the other of the heirs to large corporations, empty and meaningless lives filled with sex and drugs, if it were not for his mother’s death in a terrible accident at the age of five. It is believed that Zaynth developed acute Thanatophobia, phobia of death, at this age. He became incredibly studious, gaining scholarships to the most prestigious education institutions in the world, studying in law, economics and science.

When he inherited his father’s corporate empire at twenty, he bought a large patch of arid desert where he built Ascension City and used his political clout to gain international recognition of the city as a sovereign state. He then used his vast wealth to attract Impra’s best scientists to this city. They all worked on a way to end death, although many other massive breakthroughs were made as well. After decades of research, breakthroughs in cloning, cybernetics and software allowed Zaynth to become the first Ascended, storing a copy of his mind in Ascension City’s massive servers. Instead of hording this technology for himself or trying to make a profit out of it, he offered it to the entire world for free, causing what is known in Aiin history as “The Ascension”. And that’s where the trouble started.

Zaynth did not predict the massive social instability that his new technology would cause. Not everyone wanted to Ascend, the most vocal of these objections being religious in nature, the highest religious figures declared that the Ascended were using this technology to escape divine judgement indefinitely. At first the Ascended lived amongst the rest of the populace, however as discrimination of the Ascended increased, they chose to migrate en masse into Ascension City.

As relations between Ascension City and the increasingly extremist world started to deteriorate, Zaynth implemented newly developed force field technology to protect his city. As the nuclear weapons of the states, who were now divided into various religious blocs, could not penetrate the defences of the city they turned on each other, their leaders calling for a purge of all heathens and heretics. This caused a massive nuclear war, which is known as the Purge. It was during the early years of the Purge that Zaynth left public life, he has not been seen or heard by the general populace ever since.

The newly formed Government lowered the force fields after radiation returned to safe levels. They found survivors of the Purge, know referred to as the Organics, struggling to maintain a new agrarian society, so they offered to help get them on their feet in exchange for loyalty. The Organics agreed, this event is known as the Formation and it is the date where the Ascendency officially came into being. As the Ascended cannot force the Organics to become an Ascended, as an unwilling mind fragments upon upload, it was important for them to maintain a good relationship with the Organics. The Ascended believed that the Organics would all eventually join them and that it was only a matter of time.

Centuries later, the Organics have resettled the entire planet, however there was still demand for more growth. The Organics started to demand that the Ascended and Artificial do something about this problem. As they wished to maintain good relations with the Organics, they started to venture outside of their solar system, hoping to find a planet capable of hosting life. It was at this point that the Ascendency finally moved from being a Tier 4 society to a Tier 3 one. What challenges will await them amongst the stars is yet to be seen…

Technology:

The Technology of the Organics is very primitive, focusing on agriculture. They use metal supplied by the Ascended to create tools in their forges, which they use to maintain their farms.

The Ascended and Artificial place a high emphasis on technology. Most of their technology is at Tier 3 levels, however their Artificial Intelligence and other software areas is more on the level of what would be expected of a Tier 1 society. In other areas they less advanced, in military technology they still only have nukes and basic force fields only capable of stopping nukes and asteroids. The Ascended have only recently developed faster than light travel and have not used it for any major colonial ventures yet. The advancement of science is a major goal for the Ascendency, however due to the lack of population growth within the Ascended means new ideas are becoming harder to come by.

Society:

Within the Ascendency, most decisions are made by direct democracy. This is possible due to the almost psychic connection to the Network that is provided by being an Ascended or an Artificial. This also provides the government with a means of almost constant surveillance. Although it is possible to game the system of constant surveillance, very few have any reason to break it, as there is no economic reason to do so anymore and those with psychological defects that could cause them to do such things can have their defects cured by advanced genetic engineering technology. In the rare case that someone does commit a serious crime, they are simply executed by the state and their mind Archived, which means that they will be effectively dead unless evidence comes to light which acquits them.

There are some decisions that are too sensitive to be made by the population at large, these are made by a small group of Magistrates. These Magistrates have to go through a rigorous one hundred year course in governance, meaning that there are very few Magistrates around. It is rumoured that the Magistrates have special audience with important Ascended such as Zaynth, but this remains unconfirmed.

The society of the Organics is fairly anarchic, with tribal and gerontocracial (rule by the elder) elements. Religious leaders and elders are seen as the leaders of their respective towns. They make any really important decisions regarding a local town, usually with the support of the local populace. For more national decisions, Organics consult the Brothers. The Brothers is an Artificial Intelligence who controls a group of Androids, each one is referred to as a Brother. Organics go to Brothers when they have a problem or if they have a suggestion or a message to send to the rest of the Ascendency. The Brothers then advise the rest of the Ascendency on the Organics’ overall opinions.

When an Organic commits a crime, they are judged by the religious leaders in the town, the trial is observed by a Brother to ensure that it is fair. Punishments range from fines for minor crimes, brandings and/or exile for semi-serious crimes and executions for very serious crimes such as murder.

Sometime a group of Organics can go rouge and start becoming bandits that steal from the farming communities. Sometimes whole towns can go rouge and declare independence from the Ascendency, destroy their Brothers and start monstering their neighbours. In these scenarios the ADP (Ascendency Defence Patrol) is called in. The ADP is made up of specialized Guardian Androids and Defence Class ships. The Guardian Androids are created with a crowd control focus in mind, with simple laser that has five levels from stun laser to disintegration. They are also equipped with knockout gas grenades, which is very useful for crowd control. The ADP is also called in to assist in helping the populace weather natural disasters and similar events.

Economy:

The Economy of the Ascendency is a hybrid of a state controlled economy and capitalism. The economy of the Organics is agriculture based barter system; they have no need for anything more complex. There is no government forcing you to work in an Organics town, but the benefits of working are pretty cut and dry. If someone's farm fails then they have no food and they starve. Even for the Organics who don't have a farm, a lack of work means a lack of food.

The Ascended and the Artificial have a system that is a mixture of capitalism and state controlled markets. The Ascendency’s non-Organic workforce is entirely made up of what the Ascendency call Androids. Androids are purely robotic bodies that are capable of having an Artificial or Ascended consciousness inside it. Most Androids have humanoid bodies, however some classes of ships are considered Androids as well, as most of Ascendency ships are controlled in a similar manner to humanoid Androids. Each Ascended and Artificial are expected to spend five hours a day downloaded into an Android (or multiple Androids if the controller has enough skill). As there are 25 hours a day in 4A's timekeeping system, the day is divided into five five hour shifts. Each shift has roughly 1/5th of the population of the Ascended and Artificial in it, so everything has people manning it all the time. There are a few brilliant scientific minds who are exempt from manual labour, however, they usually spend much more time devoted to their work then manual labourers, so being a scientist or bureaucrat is a mixed blessing.

Failure to show up for work when you are an Ascended or Artificial will result in the allocation of Material Credits. Material Credits are comparable to money, they allow an Ascended or an Artificial to pay for food and energy and anything else they would desire. However, unlike capitalist systems buying and selling is completely done through the government and everyone gets an equal amount of Material Credits a day. Selling goods that are bought from the government isn't illegal, but there is no reason to do it because there is no way anyone could make a profit from it. The only reason that Material Credits exist is just to put a cap on daily spending for one person, so they don't demand an armada of spaceships after a day of work. Technically you could own an armada of spaceships, although it would take centuries to save up that much Credits. The only exception to this is the interactions between the Organics and the Ascended.

The Organics sell their excess produce to the rest of the Ascendency for metal. Originally the government sold the metal directly for the food produce and then traded it to the populace, but then it was decided that it would be more efficient to just allow the Ascended to directly buy the food themselves. Most Ascended buy food from the Organics, the Ascended have a fungus that they grow for food and it is unanimously agreed that the fungus tastes bland. The Ascended exchange their credits for metal and then they exchange the metal for food. The Organic famers trade their metal and food with their blacksmiths for tools and weapons.

Ships:

The Ascendency utilises four classes of ships, Freighter Class, Patrol Class, Scout Class and Arkships.

Freighter Class: Freighter Class Ships are transport ships that have two sub classes, Personnel Transport and Material Transport. Personnel Transports transport people and androids to other planets. Material Transports transport materials planet to planet. Freighter Classes are comparable to steam trains on Earth, they have a driver's compartment, an engine compartment and a whole bunch of compartments that are not permanently attached together. This allows for Freighter Classes to vary the amount goods and/or people they can transport in one trip without having a large amount of wasted space they need to tow. Freighter Class ships are controlled by uploaded consciousnesses, however they also have life support systems within them and manual controls in the case of emergency.

Patrol Class: Patrol Class Ships are designed to transport the Defence Androids and to provide air support. They have lasers and mini-nukes that can blow up a small Organic town. They are run by uploaded consciousnesses, although they have life support systems in case they need transport Organics out of dangerous areas.

Scout Class: Scout Classes are scouting ships that are created to scout out the regions of space for planets. They are run entirely by uploaded consciousnesses, which means that there are literally no life support systems and that allows the ships to be small and agile. They carry miniature satellites that are dropped off at regular intervals so the range of transmission of consciousness and information back to the Ascendency.

Arkship: Arkships are a new class of ship that was developed for colonization of new planets. They are intended to transport upwards of 1 million people at a time to new worlds and all the resources that a fledgling colony would need. Arkships are Ellipsoid in shape, with a square landing platform at the bottom of the ship and a circular engine room at the back of the ship. Arkships are intended for initial settlement of a planet or for the construction of a new city on a planet with Personnel Freighter Class ships shuttling new colonists to the system. they are able to be disassembled for the purpose of granting new colonies building materials. Unlike a vast majority of Aiin ships, these ships are going to be piloted by Ascended there with their real bodies, as it is cheaper to use colonists to fly there rather than using remote controlled androids. Only one ship of this class has built, but when more inhabitable systems are found more will be constructed.

I pretty much copy/pasted my nation from the last game, I hope you don't mind.

Species/Empire Name: The Brotherhood
Species Description: Originally, fourth dimensional entities from the "lower astral dimension" whose true form could not be comprehended by human eyes. They currently reside in the bodies of humanoid reptilians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dinosauroid_Reptoid.gif). These reptilians are strictly carnivorous, and live by drinking the blood of other lifeforms. Their vision allows them to see ultraviolet, and their stare is hypnotic for lifeforms with weak minds. They are cold blooded, and are 5 to 12 feet tall. The natives resided in underground cavern systems, going to the surface to feed. Now, these caves have been expanded, to include surface cities and deeper catacombs.

Homeworld Details: They now reside on a planet that orbits the star Thuban, also known as Alpha Draconis (randomly chosen to be in determined via highly precise, scientific methods to be in row I8, column M8). Their current home, known as Nibiru, is the third planet from the star, out of thirteen planets that orbit it. The sky of Nibiru is bright turquoise, due to specific mix of helium, neon nitrogen and oxygen in its atmosphere (OOC: This should produce turquoise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium–neon_laser). Most of its landmass is covered by desert, due to the searing heat of its home star. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Draconis#Properties Thuban is a white giant star, which is no longer burning hydrogen, but has begun fusing helium and is nearing the end of its life. Nibiru's oceans are thus slowly evaporating as its star's outer layers expand, consuming the inner planets and steadily heating the outer ones. At the poles however, Nibiru still has lush jungles of plants similar to earth's ferns, but much larger. The poles also have comfortable, tropical seas and extensive areas of swampland. It is at these polar regions that the Brotherhood's cities largely reside.

Species History: Their old homeworld was a solar system that appears as dark matter to human observers, since it is in a higher dimension. They lost a war there, when they tried to challenge a conspiracy of fifth dimensional entities that controlled it. This forced them to flee to the third dimension, as the technology which permitted them fourth-dimensional travel was destroyed in the conflict.

Disembodied, they wandered, their consciousness barely sustained by their crumbling worldship, until they found the doomed planet of Nibiru. Its locals, a tier 7 civilization that had barely developed animal husbandry, were clearly going to perish with their dying star, before they developed the technology to escape. So the Brotherhood seized the local's bodies, to serve as new homes for their own minds. They have some artifacts left over from their Tier 0 homeworld, but they don't know how to operate them, and they are in a state of considerable disrepair. Overall, what they have managed to reverse-engineer places them at Tier 2, technologically.

Starting Situation: The Shapeshifter population is itself rather small (several million individuals). There were two billion locals on Nibiru, of which the Shapeshifters have merely taken the bodies of the elite (priests, rulers, etc.). The rest of the low technology natives worship the shapeshifters as gods. The shapeshifters have provided the natives with electricity, mass production, and plants genetically modified to be suitable for their consumption, allowing them to create agricultural societies, which utilize dwindling resources more efficiently than meat eating. In exchange, the locals labor slavishly for the shapeshifters, producing new infrastructure, and new starships to take them off of this dying world. The work is harsh, but who would dare question the gods? In the meantime, the shapeshifters struggle to maintain the polar regions wet and livable climate, against the overall drying, dying world. To maintain the northern oceans of Nibiru, they use Cloud Seeding (colloquially known as “chemtrails”) to increase precipitation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding, to counter the overall evaporation of the planet’s seas.
Nibiru is rich in Helium 3, a compound that is useful for fusion reactors (which are the Brotherhood’s primary system of generating electricity). However, its home star’s low metalicity means that the planet is lacking in heavy metals like gold, silver, uranium and osmium. Lighter metals like copper, silicon (yes, I know, its a metalloid, but still) and iron are also scarce, though present for now. Thus, the Brotherhood plans to send out probes to nearby star systems, to see what resources may be obtained there, and to search for a more permanent home for them and for the native reptilians.

OOC: Yes, this is a shameless rip-off/homage to David Ike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylonian_Brotherhood#Reptoid_hypothesis and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reptilians), re-written from the POV of the Reptilians, before they find Earth. The name Nibiru comes from this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibiru_cataclysm conspiracy theory, and most of the other details are also references to various conspiracy theories.

Goa'uld Confederation (P1,N2)

Description: Goa'uld are snake-like "symbiotic" parasites who can enter another creature (typically sentient) through the skin and implant themselves in the neck to assume direct control. They are functionally immortal if they change hosts every 400 or so years. Their hosts benefit from perfect immune systems, enhanced strength, and aforementioned long life, but at the cost of virtually all free will. It takes insane levels of willpower to resist a Goa'uld for even a moment, though one might catch a lucky break while the symbiote is distracted. Young Goa'uld, or prim'ta, are implanted in the stomach of a young Jaffa until they are ready to take a host. Jaffa are various slave races used as the warriors and laborers of the Confederation. Indoctrinated from birth through fear and a sense of duty, Jaffa make excellent servants. Jaffa stomach pouches are the only environment Goa'uld can survive in besides hosts and water. The first Jaffa race is the Unas, a lumbering species that shares a homeworld with their parasitic masters. Symbiotes are born from Goa'uld queens, who impart a genetic memory upon their offspring. Everything she has experienced, they know. They can also share memories by touch, either direct or via hosts. When a Goa'uld finally dies, it releases a toxin that also kills its host. Goa'uld have become heavily reliant upon a mineral known as "Naquadah," which powers everything from starships to weapons to medical devices. Naquadah-rich planets are rare and therefore extremely valuable.

Homeworld: The crown world of the Goa'uld is Ardos, though it is not where they evolved. The original Goa'uld homeworld, Varl, is a backwater that the species only escaped because some hapless explorer, an Oranian, decided to take a drink from a symbiote-infested river. A few Goa'uld escaped their astral prison by stealing the unfortunate creature's ship and taking over the Oranian homeworld. They slowly imported more Goa'uld from their world, controlling the rate and thereby controlling the other Goa'uld.

History: The Goa'uld and Unas both evolved on Varl. Originally, it was a more symbiotic relationship, but the Goa'uld slowly realized how much control they could truly exert. Their society had hardly progressed, however, when their world was visited. The Oranian believed the Unas were merely a tribal race and did his best to avoid them, but did not realize the Goa'uld existed until it was slipping through his mouth into the back of his throat. The few Goa'uld who ventured to Ardos quickly took control of the government, as the civilization was completely unprepared for the menace one of its members had inadvertently unleashed. The Goa'uld adapted to their new Tier 3 environment and used it as a springboard for interstellar infiltration and conquest. However, their major advantages have been negated by their extreme selfishness. The original Goa'uld, as well as other influential symbiotes, have carved out personal empires and frequently bicker. However, due to the threats of other species now aware of their existence, the Goa'uld generally feel like cooperating in order to not be destroyed by vengeful species is a much better long-term strategy than stealing resources from each other.

Situation: Now Tier 2, the Confederation is controlled by individual Goa'uld known as System Lords. The High Council of System Lords, comprised of the most influential members of the species, is the closest thing to a central authority. However, they are all currently working towards the mutual goal of "not getting their snakey heads bashed in by the entire galaxy," and quite effectively at that. Status quo is the name of the game here, with opportunistic outward expansion opportunities being the only real risks ever taken.

I am considering creating a race, but I fear that I have come too late, since most other players have created one already. But nevertheless, I will try my best to read the other's first and then create my own.
Also, if we can have Stargate stuff, I am definatly creating an Ori Expedition to the Milky way.

The map is big enough for a lot more than what we have, you're welcome anytime.

Everyone has until Saturday now. I've become busier this coming week.

A quick note on my application, specifically the worldship and other brotherhood ships:
Worldship
The worldship is a Tier 0 piece of technology, but the Brotherhood cannot operate it properly, nor understand most of its functions (the Brotherhood is tier 2 in terms of what they can produce). The worldship has 3D navigation equipment equivalent to a tier 1 ship and tier 1 energy weaponry. Its engines however are badly damaged, meaning that for most practical purposes, it would be towed by another spacecraft, though it can still navigate better than a tier 2 ship, giving the ship towing it superior navigation and firepower.

It is about the size of the asteroid Pallas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_Pallas), and is disguised on the outside to appear like an asteroid. Its main tier 0 ability is that a lizardman's consciousness (or anything's consciousness) can be stored in it in a disembodied form (purely in the form of energy). Before the shapeshifters became lizardmen, they wandered in this state. Only within this system can a consciousness be transferred from a lizardman to another entity (hence the shapeshifting. We cannot do it at will). As a result, the brotherhood must abduct those that they wish to replace, and take them to the worldship.

The worldship is currently in orbit around Nibiru.

Brotherhood ships:

Scout:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unidentified_flying_object#mediaviewer/File:PurportedUFO2.jpg A small disk-shaped craft with a bulge in the center. Lightly armed, and designed to carry a limited crew over long distances in space. Can move rapidly in atmosphere or in vacuum. Is equipped with a tractor beam to take samples of local geology, flora and fauna. A standard scout ship’s crew will have other instruments like hidden cameras, probes, etc. in order to assist in their mission. These probes often take the form of glowing spherical devices such as this one: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/C...:Corona_street_lamp_aspirated_window_pane.JPG.

Fighter
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:UFO#mediaviewer/File:TriangleBelgium1990.jpg A small triangular craft that is moderately armed with a mixture of kinetic and energy weapons, and designed to move, and especially change directions, rapidly. In addition, they have a simple form of invisibility: their coating is designed to project onto every side of the fighter what is visible behind the opposite side, creating a form of “cloacking device” (e.g. if a fighter is flying above ocean, the fighter’s top will display the ocean below it, while the fighter’s bottom will display the sky above, if the cloak is turned on).
These were built based on designs used in the War on the Homeworld, however, like almost all Brotherhood tech, are now limited to 3 dimensional tier 2 level travel. For now, the Brotherhood maintains a small fleet of them for enforcement action. As we expand, we may need to produce more improved ships of this class.

Cruiser
http://intelligencepool.com/images/cigarUFO2.jpg These large cylindrical craft carry up to 50 fighters inside them. They are designed to be heavily armored and have extremely long range, though their maneuverability and firepower are limited. A modified version of the cruiser is used as a heavy freighter, to transport important objects such as colonies. Two well equipped Cruisers continuously stand by to tow the worldship if the need arises.

THE ANTALEAN EXPEDITION
ttar_concentric_circles_v.jpg
The emblem of the expedition, a resemblance of the capital city, Ceanurbe
Species Name: The Antalean Hegemony

Leader of the Hegemony: Hegemon Onus VI Antelid
Leader of the Expeditoin: Commander Ogaden Molius

Species Description: The Antaleans are a proud people, famous for their lust of conquest and loot, while mantaining a healthy relationship with the sciences and art. However, their physical structure is less than impressive, since they are short humanoids with weak bodies that have to rely on their technology to achieve their impressive feats.

Homeworld Details: The Antaleans are a most peculiar race indeed, as their desire to conquer has driven them to far away places. And what better testament than the fact that they do not even originate from the Milky Way. Their capital city, Ceanurbe lies somewhere in the Andromeda Galaxy, a location not known to other species.

The planet itself lies in a solar system near the center of the Galaxy, in a system with only one star, a peculiarity in itself, considering most systems have two or three stars, and 6 planets. Out of these planets, only one was suitable for life, as the other 5 were too far away for organisms to evolve in them.

The planet which hosts Ceanurbe is named Antalos, after the mythical king that united the planet under one banner. Most of the planet is covered by a huge ocean, while the landmass can be considered a "Pangea" and covers only about 30% of the planet's surface.

In the oceans, or actually above the oceans, hovers the city of Ceanurbe. Antalos, the famed king, ordered the construction of the city in order to make it inacessible to the common men. There, he was ordained the first Hegemon of the now united Antalean people.

The city itself is a center of scientific and artistic advance. It hosts numberous advanced technologies developed by the race inghabiting it and by other races that have been conquered. Just like the emblem, it consists of many circular halls, each one with small radius than the other, and the center hub, which is the control room. These halls contain rooms that harness the energy of the waves, the sun and sometimes that of electricity from the storms. There are also anti - matter generators that harness the energy from the reaction of matter with anti - matter. The energy is used to power the advanced force field that protects the city and the life support systems. The food resources of the city come either from the subjucated slaves in the continent or from looting.

Species History:
As far as resources go, the Antaleans were not that strong at first. Situated between numberous important empires of the time, they were often sold to slavery or almost at the brink of extintion. But with a charismatic leader and the willingness of the people, all that was about to change. His name was Nantu Mak, given by his slavers, an empire with a name that was to be forever wiped out by all historical records.

Luckily for Nantu, the mysterious empire had an open caste system that often used it's slaves as warriors and administrators, and an ambitious man like Nantus could easily climb the social ladder. His father, Etus, a name of Antalean origin, was a military commander, and a capable one at that. During his campaigns, he often took Nantu with him, who by the age of 18 was already a known member of the imperial court.

As years passed, and Nantu's father died, Space Faring technologies were achieved by the nations of the time, with some being more advanced than others. And Nantu came up with an idea. " Why not use the space ships that are being build to bombard the enemies from space?" he thought as is attributed to him in the autobiography, Antala.

And so he did. Under the command of the emperor at the time, he managed to wipe out all resistance and conquer the rest of the world. He used that new - found power to intimidate the common folk and to revolt against his emperor. After succeeding in the revolt, he enslaved all the races expect the Antaleans, who he forced to settle in a coast near the city of Ceanurbe.

Before utilising the combined civilisations' advanced technology to build Ceanurbe, he adopted a regnal name that would be passed down to all his ancestors. His name was to be Antalos I Makid, a name of a hero for the Antaleans while still reminding them of what their enemies did to them during their time as slaves. It was during this time that he ordered the slaves to construct the capital city of the oceans, in order to impress people and to have a proper ceremony for acquiring the title of Hegemon.

After a few years, Antalos was dead. He had put in place all the state institutions which are used even 250 years after his death. His successors, despite not being as able as him, managed to spread the Antalean people out of their home system in order to colonise other systems that were either dead or had primitive sentient life in them. As is Antalean tradition, all the life forms were enslaved. Military Colonies were also established, in order to guard areas near more advanced civilisations or risky ones.

During the time of Onus III, father of the current Hegemon, the Antalean dream of galactic - wide conquest was finally realised, and every life form in the Galaxy had been enslaved. However, being a content man as he was, he decided to live a life of peace and decadence rather than to fund scientific and military expeditions to other galaxies. He thought there was no danger, despite the fact that energy and signal readings provided proof of advanced life forms in the Galaxy.

Luckily for the Antaleans, Onus III died from cardiac arrest, a really primitive cause of death otherwise avoidable. For some suspicious reason, it seems that the personal doctors and scientists of the hovering city of Ceanurbe had been conviced that his son, Onus IV, was a much better leader than their father. The coronation soon followed, and with barely any resistance from the already - enslaved populations, Onus IV sent out an expedition to bring information about any possible loot in the Milky Way, " Spirelus " as it was called in the Antalean Language.

Starting Situation:

Military:
Most of the ships provided by the Hegemony are in good condition and technologically advanced, although still backwards in term of Antalean technology. That was decided by the Hegemon and his court advisors in order to avoid from having the inferior species of Spirelus learning about the true might of Antalean technology and the wonders it can do.

Technology:
With that said, while the ships fit in Tier 2, with exceptions like faster than light capabilties, the Antaleans are in possesion of Tier 1 technology, including, but not limited to, anti - gravity drives and anti - matter generators used for energy purposes. However, the only ones that understand these technologies are the Hegemon, his court members and the scientists within the expedition. The Antalean military, which is mostly robotic in it's nature, and the slaves are not capable of understanding such technological feats considering that both groups might not even have any theoretical scientific education

Economy:
The ships coming from Andromeda carry with them seeds, cattle and other materials like metals needed for the construction of settlements and basic machinery that can ensure the survival of these settlements. While not mainly a trading nation, Commander Molius has been given instructions to learn more about the natives of Spirelus with any means that might be needed along the way, including trade. After all, these inferior races do not know of the feats accomplished by the Antaleans, and neither should they ever learn.

Expansion:
The Antalean expedition consists only of military and scientific ships sent from Andromeda, nothing else. No land has been colonised and the Antaleans do not even own land in this galaxy, for now.

Society:
The ships themselves are an extension of the Antalean society. The Antaleans, considered a superior race to the other ones that used to inhabit Andromeda under their own lords, either become scientists by receiving an extensive education in all the sciences excluding medicine, or soldiers, who are trained in the arts of robotic and space warfare. However, some really capable and ambitious slaves are able to join these ranks. Despite that, the doctors are a special class, only available to the Antaleans, due to the perceived fear that an inferior race could poison it's superiors because of it's hatred for being enslaved. All those who are not Antaleans but under the Antaleans are enslaved and work on physical labour, which the Antaleans can't complete due to their frail bodies.

Summary:
This is the part where one story ends, that of the past, and another begins, that of the future. While the Antalean expedition has managed to arrive in a short time, thanks to the advanced technologies, and the Hegemony itself is strong and prosperous in their home galaxy, Andromeda, the situation looks grim for the explorers. Onus IV has warned the expedition that he will not send any reinforcements what so ever, unless they have a good reason to convice him to do otherwise. While he knows that senting reinforcements will be necessary, he wanted to test the loyalty of his subjects on the expedition. In addition, the Antaleans know nothing at all about this Galaxy, expect from ages old signals whose language could not be translated even by the foremost experts in the field of linguistics. Maybe the information by the expedition will change this forever...
